Burning desire is key to everything... I just can't seem to develop it. I hear a lot of simple answers like, "just desire it" or what not, but that doesn't work

Kan, in an old ebook of mine called Maintain Your Focus, I wrote this: Pay attention and gain Interest.

Maybe that will help you? Make a special attempt to pay attention. You will begin to notice things which interest you.

Make special efforts to pay more attention to those things you are interested in and it is likely that interest will grow. Eventually, one thing or another will become so very interesting to you that you will become obsessed to know more and more and more about it...

Developing a “Burning Desire” is done in steps usually. Most times you don’t just wake up and say I have a Burning Desire for a New Home. Sometimes it happens that way in reaction to something someone says or does, but most of the time it is developed in stages.

Like Dominique says it also involves emotions. You need to begin by building strong emotions towards what it is you want.

Start by finding a picture of what it is you really want, many pictures, as many as you can find. Put them every place where you’ll see them all the time.

If what you want is a new home, find pictures of the exact home you want and make copies and put them every place, use it as your computer desktop and screen saver. Visualize yourself living in the home; see the furniture you want in it, walking through the house, sleeping in its bedroom, swimming in the pool, using the kitchen. See every part of this house you can possible think of.

Visualize where this home will be at and see the grounds around the house. Get prices on home much it would cost to build the home. Create a blog about the home and talk about it every day.

Make it real, see it, feel it, and the Burning Desire will grow.

This is one of my main points. It's not enough to read a book that tells you what to do, we have to learn how to do it.

A "burning desire," as Napoleon Hill puts it, gets built in your mind over time from massive and consistent thought about it. In many cases, massive fuel to create something takes for you to actually train that into your mind.

Daily Rituals help with the conditioning process. Sit down for about 20 minutes a day and clear your mind. After your mind is relatively clear, immerse yourself in your outcome. Literally try to engage all of your senses and put yourself in the outcome.

At the same time, consciously engage your excitement. Start naming things that can happen in your life as a result of you engaging this goal, desire or outcome. When we plant seeds, we have to water them. The burning desire normally doesn't just show up. That is a huge misconception in human beings. You create the entire thing in your mind. Get passionate, think about it obsessively, discover and learn as much as you can about it and ensure that whatever outcome you're moving toward is exciting enough to you!

ENGAGE YOUR EMOTIONS DAILY, several times a day! Engage your neurons! Build it in your brain and start to actually TRY TO FEEL invigorated when thinking about it. Go nuts in your mind with it, you now have full permission to reengage your imagination.

I believe you already have a burning desire. Anyone who surfs this site does. You have a burning desire to be successful in something dealing with this im thing. If not you would not be here reading and asking questions to get you to the next step.

Now the question you can only answer it this. Where are you going to focus this desire. Or better yet what avenue are you willing to take to physically touch and hold this thing that your burning desire is seeking ?

If you're burning desire is to make $500 dollars then you have something concrete. What are you going to do to get it ? Articles, affiliate marketing, ebay, etc. Now you've made this fairy airy thing called desire something tangible that you can see a path towards.

So for examples sake, your burning desire is to be able to not have to use your paycheck to pay a few bills. From doing the numbers you've figured out $500 will take care at least 2 bills. So now you know what you need to make. Next is you want to make that money by affiliate marketing.

You've committed yourself to working some affiliate program and marketing tactic for at least 30 days to give yourself a chance to succeed in this particular thing. You'll go from bad to good. Then good to great if you allow yourself a chance. The problem lies when you're focus is scattered and always starting at the ground floor each Monday.

A great book that addresses this is called "Mastery". Eben Pagan touched on it sometime back. It outlines the chronic IM'er to a tee. Okay bro went a little long. But hope that desire has become something more tangible to you.

    1 - Pick a goal.

2 - If you want a burning desire, spend at least 30 minutes each day visualizing the goal in detail. Turn off the phone, your computer, everything! Go into quiet and practice living in your mental picture. See it in detail. Smell, taste, touch the picture.

When the mental picture begins to feel more real than reality itself, then you have the beginnings of a burning desire.

Kan - you've taken your eye off the ball. You have a burning desire to ... erm ... have a burning desire!

But that's because you believe that if you could develop the burning desire, (let's call it "bd" for short shall we?) it would bring you some result(s) you don't already have.

Therefore you have a desire for the results but believe you don't have sufficient "bd" to achieve or manifest those results.

To me, your whole question comes from a place of being lost. You don't develop desire like you can develop a muscle. It isn't a skill, it's an emotion. It comes naturally from inside when you know who you are, where you're going or what you want to be or do or have.

Have you ever had a burning desire for a lover? Someone you couldn't stop thinking about?

When you were a kid, do you remember a Christmas Eve, or a birthday eve, when you couldn't sleep because of some anticipated excitement about the next day?

You can't make yourself have a desire! If you don't desire something, you don't. I've never desired a Spice Girls album but I'm not frantically searching around wondering how I could become a fan! Offer me a free ticket to a Katherine Jenkins recital though and you'll get a whole different reaction - because that's just me!

Since this is the Warrior Forum, and you're quoting "Think And Grow Rich" I'm guessing you desire to make some money online. Good for you. That's a desire. I don't know if it's burning in you or not. (And that's the other point. Who ever quantified desire?)

If you truly don't desire any way you've encountered of doing business on the internet, then in my view that is your nature speaking to you and you could simply try listening to it. Ask yourself why you are trying to achieve something in a realm that holds no emotional pull for you. I can't tell you whether this is a place for you to be or not, but if I were in your shoes I'd ask myself that question.

    Try this:

What is your OUTCOME? In other words, what result do you want? Money in the bank? How much? And how do you want to obtain it? At a desk? Working outdoors mainly? Selling, writing, teaching, building ... the possibilities are vast.

    It's all about self discovery.

    I hope that helps.

    All good things,
    Trevor.
