The Best Thing To Do For The New Year

As the year draws to a close I keep getting the same question from my coaching clients... What do I do differently this for the new year?

I first tell them to keep an open mind.

Like anything else that has come before, the internet is just the medium for marketing. When television came on the scene, everyone thought radio was gone... It just changed and still sells to its market.

With the internet, everyone thinks that mobile market will mean the end of internet marketing as we know it....

It's just going to open up a new area to market while changing the present one.

The next thing, I tell my coaching clients is to look at the whole business! This may be heresy here, but the internet marketing side of the business is one part of the equation and if you miss things like overspending for staff or letting profits dribble away because high expenses, then there won't be any internet marketing to work with.

Getting a client to see the value of the internet is one thing and should be foremost in our thinking to make fast profits for clients.... but if we fail to look at a business as a whole we miss a boatload of cash that is staring us in the face.

Have a prosperous new year!

Millard

I like the way you think! Yeah, it's true, we can get so caught up in one aspect that we miss the big picture and all the opportunities. Thanks for the reminder Happy New Year to you and your family!

So true, but look at television, it’s been here for decades and will be here decades more. The internet is not going anywhere except to get better. Mobile is just another way to combine the two and keep connected all the time.

Always look for the “how can I use this, how can I made it better?”

I think the process of reflecting on what worked and what didn't in the previous year is a really important excerise when planning for the following year.

I agree that you should look at the business in totality. What effort resulted in the biggest gains?

Totally agree with you Millard. I think too many warriors/marketers miss opportunities because they become so focused on online marketing that they miss the bigger picture which is, as you say, integrating OM strategies within a company's marketing plan to maximise sales.

Rather than trying to make a quick sale, most businesses would be better off trying to build relationships - I advise my clients to make the primary objective of their web presence to build relationships rather than to make a sale - turn prospects into friends, friends in customers and customers into referrers.

Thanks for the timely reminder and best wishes for the New Year.

    Regards,

    Adam

I agree with your points. I would also add that you don't have to get everything right but you must get going.

Best piece of advice you reminded me about... you don't have to get everything right... just get it going...

You can correct and modify as you go.

    Cheers,

Love the way you've articulated this perspective.

People often tend to forget that the Internet is another medium... probably because they are so immersed into it.

A reminder like this is certainly helpful.

A business is a business whether it is online or offline... or both.
The fundamentals are the same. How you apply them in each medium differs. The difference is in the technicalities. Not the fundamentals.

Once we grasp that, we'll tread without fear in any new medium the future may bring... mobile, e-readers & beyond.

Have A Great New Year folks!

I appreciate your thinking Millard. But your thoughts are viewed from different perspective by different people. The fundamentals are almost same but using different terms and techniques for being benefited in short time. People likes to run with the generation-Not to stay behind.

Things have always worked for me when I put my own little "spin" to them or "twist."

It's true of most anything that works for you. You've got to put yourself into the mix. No one can copy EXACTLY what someone else creates that works for them. You can adapt and adopt, but you will always do something that works for your situation.

Apply what you have learned from someone and then FIX it for yourself, so that you get the results YOU want, not necessarily what has happened in the past.

Great post, I would like to add that even the mobile market has changed with the release of tablets to the masses, I have one and a lot of people at work have them.

More for the convienience, then anything else as I have two laptops and two android phones. I now use it to search the web for menial things (when my flatmate asks me whats on tv, or who was the first person to climb mount everest) more often then cranking up a laptop or jumping on my phone. It doesn't always show those mobile ads you see at the bottom of the screen because you can determine how you are (i guess you would say) accessing the internet, and I mostly access it like im on a pc, I find trying to use the mobile type keypad to fiddly.

I don't think that Mobile marketing is going to be the killer like has been said previously, just another stream of traffic that you can use in your arsenal of tactics.

I agree totally, and because everything is changing so much the information that you may get may change, as another warrior says and many other people, principles stay the same, methods change.

You mentioned that you might get your pad out for menial things when you don't want to crank up the laptop or phone... I wonder how many others do the same with their iPads?

Every day is a new day, every year is a new year, its just a normal day, its just a typical year, but for me the very first thing I did is to ponder the good and bad in the past year and looking forward to make it right and make it better on the new year.

Whoah... Thanks for brushing up my mentality to abundance. I've been thinking that radio isn't needed anymore because of TV but after reading your post, I must be mistaken. There is always an abundance of opportunities for everyone in this world.
