A Goal, a Promise, an Addiction!

I started writing every day as a personal challenge, posting a full article every day and anywhere from 15 to 40 posts per day. The challenge is over, I reached my goal, but what was a challenge in the beginning now feels like an addition.

When you first set a goal it may seem difficult to get started, then it becomes easy, then something you look forward to. Once you have faithfully preformed the task on a regular basis it becomes a kind of addiction, something you look forward to doing, something that seems missing if you don’t do it.

After posting continuously for 31 days I now find myself missing the activity and drawn back to it. This experiment / challenge revealed something I didn’t expect.

Success, once experienced on a regular basis, becomes an addiction! This goes to show that bad habits are not the only ones that can become an addiction or habit.

Very interesting and powerful stuff here and has me realizing that I need to plan my next challenge very carefully.

It’s been 3 days since I completed my challenge and I’ve learned that after having such a detail and aggressive goal set you need to have the next goal in place BEFORE you finish the first one.

With the goal/challenge completed and the next goal not set in place you feel both satisfied and lost.

It’s like setting sail to an island in the middle of the ocean to pick up cargo to sell, but without having a place to sell it once you have it.

I’m currently working on my next goal/challenge but I realize that now that I should have had this in place before I completed the first goal.

If you have a current goal now that is almost completed my suggestion is to begin planning now for your next goal and have it in place for the exact day you complete your current goal.

If you want a day or two or even a week off than plan it into the new goal.
