Focus on the New Moment.

Life is a series of moments. These moments are entirely independent of a calendar, or time for that matter.

New Year's resolutions can be injurious to your chances at success in 2 ways:

1 - The time frame. Instead of attacking a massive goal right now many set up a monthly or yearly time frame. Things that folks could do right now but fear to do are pushed off until later in the year. Of course, this handcuffs the hands of the universe.

You can't do everything at once but think to yourself, "Is there something that I could do NOW that I am putting off until later in the year?" This is a sobering and eye-opening question that's preceded stages of massive growth for me.

2 - Rather than use the word resolution focus on the word decision. The word resolution tends to be surrounded by jokes about people quitting the gym or going back to smoking 2 weeks into the New Year. Your subconscious has picked up on this and usually finds a way to sabotage your resolutions.

Using the word decision brings power to you. When making a choice you tend to feel fully responsible for the choice made. If you fail to stick to your decision, you know it inside and it doesn't feel good. This experience motivates you to make choices that are in line with your blanket decision.

So, have you made a New Moment Decision? What's your definite major purpose? What are you doing now to make it a reality? Because now is when it's becoming a reality, not later in the year.

    Achieved a Goal? Now What?

If anyone has been following my posts for the month of December 2010, you know I’ve been involved with a challenge I set for myself, post 16 posts per day with one being a full page article. You will also know that I overshot that goal every single day with the minimum posts being 20.

I really like your use of "Decision" here. It seems that it might not only be a better word for resolution but maybe even for goals.

Do we set goals or do we make decisions this year?

Yeah I like Ryan's reframe of "decisions." (Personally I'm happy with setting goals.)

However I think different approaches work for different people. As Friedrich Nietzsche said: "You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.”

Some people simply prefer to plan for the future. (Which doesn't mean they can't enjoy the moment.)

    Good point Jonathan.

Whatever works for you, or more importantly, whatever serves you. The key is to let go of strategies that no longer serve you.

Some prefer to set goals for the future. If it works for you, go for it. I'd rather not handcuff the universe though because Now is all there is, was or ever will be

I'd also found that setting goals in the future is usually a lame excuse for me to avoid what needs to be done now. I used to think: "Well by THIS time I will have the courage to do it, or my business will have grown to a certain point,", or insert your excuse. Meanwhile when I take massive action immediately things happen immediately. The universe only responds to your current vibration. Future or past, the universe doesn't operate there. Just the present.

Hopefully by sharing my destructive tendencies some can look at themselves in the light of truth and say, oh yeah, I'm still sabotaging myself in that manner. I set goals for the future because I'm afraid to attack that stuff now, but I KNOW that I can do it now.

    All the best guys!

      I definitely agree with that.

Planning has its place, however it's action which ultimately creates results. That's one of my goals, so thank you for the "guidance."

Something I've found is that "planning" (or working on your inner game of success) can make taking action much easier.

    Hey Ryan,

    Thanks for sharing your views!

I always love hearing what you have to say because I know it's going to be something controversial. I do agree it is important to live in the moment, but it doesn't help to have a overall goal in my opinion.

For me having a goal motivates me to get there, because I know there's nothing I can't accomplish if I put myself 100% in to it. Persistance will be the key in my success or anyone elses for that matter.

    Thanks again!

    God bless,

RB I think this is probably the most import part, "what are we doing NOW". I know many times I'm guilt of not working on the NOW but spend too much time looking into the someday.

The NOW is the part I have to keep bringing into focus...

New year's resolutions... It's just a good time to re-evaluate.

You need a constant plan for re-evaluating and adjusting your goals.
