There's a lot of reasons why people fail in business, but the primary reason for failure is the lack of preparation.
Why do so many people fail to prepare? In the Bible, proverbs 18:16 states "a man's gift makes room for him." In other words, your talent will give you an opportunity, but you have to remember and consider that the room it makes is only temporary. General Douglas McArthur said "Preparedness is the key to success and victory" and "The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war."
It starts with discipline and appreciating the value of it. Discipline is doing what you really don't want to do so that you can do what you really want to do. the frustrating thing about preparation is that it usually takes much more time than the actual event you're preparing for. Musicians may practice many hours preparing to perform a three minute piece on stage. Actors may practice for weeks to prepare for a performance that may last two hours. Discipline is required to keep preparing long hours for something that will be over quickly.
No matter your circumstances, resources, or natural talent, certain things are always within your control-Your ability to work harder than anyone else!
Henry Ford said 'Before everything else, getting ready is the secret to success." Ford understood the power of preparation and all the things it can do for someone.
Things you hoped won't happen, do happen and they occur with greater frequency than the things you hoped would happen. The reason is simple, being unprepared puts you out of position. Preparation positions people correctly, and it is often the separation between winning and losing. Don't believe me? Watch any kind of competitive sport on television and you'll see first hand who's more prepared and who wasn't. Still not convinced? Who do you know that started a business and was successful? Who started a business and wasn't so successful? Preparation is the key.

Being prepared is very important, but some people get to deep into the preparation and never engage the action part. It becomes I need to learn this, I need to do this, and after I have finished this… but the action never comes. Sometimes you need to jump in and begin too.

I have many friends who are always 'getting ready to get ready'. All they do is prepare and never pull the trigger.

Sometimes, you just have to jump in with both feet and see what happens. Othertimes, a small amount of preparation can go a looong way to keep you from making a huge mistake.

Either way, action must be taken at some point.

I agree with you. I have a lot of friends that keep saying someday... but when it comes to trying it they always have an excuse.

If not actual damage then it doesn't get you to where you want to go. You'll never achieve your dreams until you start chasing them.

Yes! Being prepared at all time is very important, it gives a clear view of what you are going to do if ever such situation happens. It will also prevent you from panic.

To much preparation is also detrimental, because it causes fear and indecision

I personally believe that fear is what causes indecision and to spend too much time on preparation.
