Are You A Master Of Disaster?

When things *appear* to go horribly wrong, do your respond? React?

I stressed the word "appear" since everything is an appearance. The perceiver creates the experience.

That's why some people's supposed disasters are another person's golden opportunities.

The truth is that each moment is an opportunity. Each opportunity opens a window to another opportunity. Each moment is a vehicle for our advancement.

This is why I've learned that the worst thing is the best thing to happen to you. When I encountered the most resistance and went up against some powerful blockages in my being the end result was a rapid growth phase in my life. It's as if the trying period was a catapult, waiting for me to acknowledge the springboard so I could be propelled into the next phase of my life.

How are you handling adversity or potentially stressful situations in your life?

    Something I learned is that:

"I can't control everything that happens to me, but I can control my response to everything that happens." I think it was Jack Canfield who I learned this "success trait" from.

I have to also remember that I'm lucky to have come through my problems and that other people haven't been so fortunate. :-(

Still, thank you for the insightful reminder, Ryan. It's been fun watching you continually working on your craft/information/teaching. :-)

    I appreciate that Jonathan

I often think the same thing. No matter what happens, some have it worse and some would be more than happy to have my issues.

When I run into a very stressful moment I try to look at from a year from now and see how bad it will appear then, and look for similar things that happen in my past and see what the impact is today from those moments.

Usually the current problem doesn’t seem so bad.

I always say, "I am blessed with a lot, but many of my blessings are in disguise." I see problems and obstacles as blessings in disguise because they are opportunities for us to exercise our creativity and they force us to think and go beyond our perceived limits. Thus, we learn, we grow and we become better.

Nothing honestly fear me more than death. So setbacks in life are just tiny stones that stood in my life path. They are necessary to bring the best out of me!

Being able to accept each situation for what it is helps to keep things in perspective.

The most difficult situations to accept or embrace form the biggest windows of our lives.

My girlfriend was talking about this the other day. Her father passed on a few years back and although it was the most difficult situation to deal with she could see the windows it opened for her. There are so many things she wouldn't have been doing if her father were living.

She would give anything to have her dad back but she's a wise young women who during a span of months could see things that most aren't able to perceive in their lifetime.

The universe ends one chapter of our lives but immediately opens a brilliant new chapter with each loss.

I'm a firm believer that when one door closes, another one opens. Our job is to seek the direction to that next open door. To often times, "life happens" that causes one to react without thinking first...It happens to the best of us. When stress happens to me, I stop everything, seek a quiet place and then get myself together before doing anything else. Relaxing by reading, walking, etc., are great examples. Storms are going to come and we have to go throught them to make it out. However, going through in the "wrong direction" can make for a long, tiresome journey.

The only thing we can control in our lives is our attitude towards circumstances

I totally agree with it, the man who looks at the positive sides of a matter will find out many hidden opportunities, whereas the one who focuses on the negative sides will only find out more and more trouble.
