What's The Worst Way To Make Money Online?

To only talk about making money.

Look at some of the ad copy on forums, social networking sites, etc. Much of the advertising is geared toward making money. These folks don't realize that dollar bills and checks aren't sitting around reading these forums. People are. When you read some of the copy you get the feel the person is telegraphing their message to "Money" and has forgotten to connect with people.

These type of posts are generally ignored because people want to connect with a human being first.....THEN you can share your insights on how to help others make money.

Remember that you're dealing with people. Not money. Never confuse the order or you will find yourself on a slippery slope.

What's your take on the whole money-people issue? Do you seek to make connections with people before pitching your opportunity? Do you even have to pitch your opportunity, or do people flow to you effortlessly?

I think you have to go a step further back to get to the root of what makes the money tree grow or wither.

The tree won't grow if you can't get past what you want (more money) and see what potential customer wants (hopefully something you can provide.)

Lots of people are just plain incapable of putting themselves in the other guy's shoes.

I don't agree that people reading ads are looking to connect with people first.

Consumers are just as self centered as advertisers. Try connecting with them without giving them some benefit (other than connection) and see how far you get.

You make a good point. Some might be focused on the need but some others make a connection before the purchase. Some think inward, others think outward.

You come across a trusted blogger who's new to you. They are an established authority - let's say Chris Brogan. You read Chris' post day after day. Eventually you make a connection because you trust him. Then one day you decide to click on one of his affiliate links and buy the product.

You happened upon his blog in the beginning; no desire to purchase anything, just wanted to learn more about an interesting dude. Eventually, you made a connection. Then you made the purchase after the connection.

I also experienced this with people who've joined my team. They found me through my comments left on another blog, and wanted to learn more about me(explicitly saying so in their comments). They had no idea about the product or service that I offered. Eventually they found out about the opportunity and after making a connection some folks signed up.

All really good points here... Its called SOCIAL MEDIA for a reason... If it was all built for spamming and self promotion it would be called spam/self promotion Media

Making money in a deceptive and illegal way in the internet is for me the worst way of making money online.

I do my best to bring value into people's lives.

I want to be able to sleep at night.

And besides, anything that is just there to make money (without providing value) is not a long-term game plan.
