a technique I learned to improve focus and concentration..

It's to stand on one leg with your eyes closed.

Try it and see how long you can do it for.

    **Very Funny**
    Is that Sufism or what?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[292813].message }}
  • Absolutely EXCELLENT! The technique is phenomenally neuro-sculpting in that it is novel and forces your brain into actions, compensations, and motor skill learning that it is simply not accustomed to. The result is that your brain is sent into a supercharged brainwave state to work out the balance and sensory solutions in order to keep you steady.

Signalling among your brain's neurons can't handle the new load efficiently, so your brain emits special growth proteins to strengthen the connections (dendrites) between appropriate cells as it also generates the growth of new connections to compensate.

Better interconnectivity equals faster processing and more power.

Because your brain grows through this manner of direct training along the path of the specific demands being placed on it, the result is an increase in Mental Concentration (but NOT Mental Focus), as well as balance, and eventually, relaxation.

If anyone wants to simultaneously develop 'Mental Focus' (rather than Mental Concentration), they will have to combine the exercise with Visualization techniques. If that is implemented, one should not engage in the visualization practice until the Mind has steadied and distracting thoughts settled down in quiet concentration.

    Great post, Li.

Wow, that's a great response. I've never heard of "neuro-sculpting".

There is a tide in the affairs of men which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; Omitted — all the voyage of their life Is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat, And we must take the current when it serves, Or lose our ventures. - Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare

I like the Tai Chi position "The Horse":
You stand, your feet shoulder-width apart and arms way out front clasping hands, then lower yourself into a sitting position, as if in a chair, but there is no chair.
Within 30 seconds your thighs will burn like you've never known.
And at the same time, your thighs, glutes, and arms will be strengthening.
(This isn't for motivation. This is an exercise of endurance, and will add 10% "conquistador" mentality to your workout regimin and your whole day.)
Try to maintain for 90 seconds or longer.

Great Tip! It took all my focus and concentration just to stand on one leg : ) now I need to figure out how to channel that into marketing and stop getting side tracked.

Great post! I believe this kind of stuff works because I frequently do something quite similar that works for me: I call it the Tippy-Toe Exercise...

It's more of a balance-concentration and lower leg exercise (specifically calf muscles).

Start by standing on your "tippy toes" and SLOWLY and uniformly begin to lower yourself down until finally your heels hit the ground. Once you're standing normal, SLOWLY and controlled, begin to rise again. The key here is about slow and controlled movement on the way up and on the way down.

Once you've got this down... try it with your eyes closed!

      Best of luck,

      -jg
