Great book, it is actually older than Think and Grow Rich and in my mind more accessible and easier to implement.

The basic principle of Science of Getting Rich & Think and Grow Rich are similar.

Have a definite Goal and a burning desire to achieve it. Create a plan to achieve this goal and focus on it with persistence.

Emma, thanks for the link to the pdf of SOGR. I'm a big fan of Think and Grow Rich and am on my 4th reading of it. Although I've heard of Wattle's book, I haven't read yet. Sounds interesting. Thanks for the link!

Read it, and I didn't like it.

I don't like his views on poverty and the poor.

    • This book is one of the pillar of what we have available today. It represents the story of everything has been achieved, developed and published until today. Each time I read just one chapter, its magic captures always me.
Really a fantastic book just as "Think and Grow Rich" :-)

It's a good and motivational book, the very one that was behind "The Secret". Nonetheless, there may be, I think, a grave logical error on the very basis of it.
Wattles leads you to believe that if you rise from the competitive plane to the creative plane and make yourself rich in that (creative) way, by doing so you make others you have contact with more rich and wealthy also. He tells that by this creative method it would eventually be possible to have a situation where 100 % of any given population are all rich.

Now, that seems as impossible as having a day without a night. Without a dark period of time we wouldn't call day a day any more. We wouldn't call it in any way, as we wouldn't even know it exists.

The same is also true with money. It is only possible to be rich if someone somewhere is relatively poor. With no poor persons, it is absolutely impossible to be rich. Would some day the mindset that makes people poor, vanish, the word "rich", as a completely empty and meaningless word from then on onwards, must vanish with it.

Don't forget Earl Nightengale's audio program, The Strangest Secret.

Aside from the obvious connection with the title, if you listen to The Strangest Secret it's clear that it was definitely an inspiration for the movie "The Secret."

The Science of Getting Rich is a very good book. Think and Grow Rich on the other hand is just a good, but more actionable. It contains a higher number of specific steps and methods you can use to guide you to the right place.

Along with reading The Science of Getting Rich you need to track down a copy of The JackRabbit Factor on Jackrabbit Factor It is a story which illustrates the principle of SOGR brilliantly.

It was not behind the Secret, they just said it was. They wanted to use the Master Key System but could not so they used SOGR. As I have said before the word attraction does not appear in the SOGR the word action is in it 50 times. The books make two different points. The Secret is about the LOA and does not mention action, SOGR is about taking action. There are tons of free better LOA books available, the Secret was a marketing ploy, not a book I feel you can use to better yourself. My opinion obviously

Great book. I think it's important to read it over and over again to keep the material fresh in your mind. I used to read a chapter a day in the morning.

I remember a chapter in TAGR where it mentions to re read it 6 times before moving on.

edit: come to think of it, i'm going to start reading again right now! : )

One of my favorite books of all time. I was just reading it yesterday.

Ditto on Tony W's advice. It must be read again, and again and again. Many of the concepts are opposite to what we've been taught, as most of us think, feel and act on a competitive plane of thought.

As Wattles stresses you must reside on a creative plane of thought to properly use the concepts laid out in the book, or more importantly to do things in the certain way that ensures success.

    Thanks for sharing!

I read the book but I don't understand what he means by the constant reference to "doing things in a certain way".What does he mean?

    One of my favorite books.
I read a chapter every day. Each time I re-read the book I get something new out of it.
In reference to doing things in "the certain way"
I believe that there is more than one answer to this. My understanding is that you do things with your vision in mind, you must always give the impression of increase, more than fill your place and act as an advancing person.
Doing things in the certain way is doing things with the purpose and faith that your vision is being fulfilled - it is never in doubt.
Also keep in mind that your actions must give more to all and less to none.
    Hope this helps.

I know this will be treason to some folks, but I like the Science of Getting Rich better than Think and Grow Rich. For some reason it just resonates with me.

Now, I don't know if this is true, I've never researched it. But on a Dan Kennedy recording I have, he talks about the irony that Hill pretty much was broke and in poverty at the end of his life and someone--either Wattles or someone else in that vein but who wasn't very well liked as a person, name is escaping me the moment--pretty much gave him work and kept his head above water at the end.

If true though, it's like the ultimate example of how just knowing what to do is useless if you don't implement!
