If you're not trying to make money NOW, you're probably better off

So... don't let the title muster up a bunch of opinions that you want to fire off right away, just listen.

Internet marketing, in its very nature is very quick fix oriented. Well, correction: people are very quick fix oriented when it comes to internet marketing.

The challenge with that, as we all know (or should), is that it doesn't allow you to actually plan out the kinds of results you want in 6 months, a year, or even two years. How come? Because you're laser focused on making your quick buck now.

However, if you're comfortable financially (have some day job, or some other source of income to fund your projects), then internet marketing and online business become way more manageable and the potential for success skyrockets.

If you're saying "ok.. 1 hour commenting on blogs (and actually giving a crap as opposed to doing it strictly for SEO), 4-5 posts a week on my website, a half hour a day to read up on mission critical information in my niche and constant and never ending tweaking and refinement," in one year, (considering you're taking action, launching products, welcoming failure and calibrating accordingly) you'll be doing just fine.

If you're not trying to make money RIGHT NOW, you'll probably be better off.

It fascinates me how many people don't fully "get" the long term perspective thing, when it comes to marketing. You guys know what I mean ... right?

In Charlie Sheen's rants he keeps talking about being in the moment. That the past doesn't matter, the future doesn't matter, only now matters.

That's the quick buck attitude as well. If you're only worried about now you're not likely to stick with a plan for any amount of time... you're unlikely to build up valuable capital over time... and you're unlikely to reach your IM goals, as you say.

    Cheers,

Or, you could dabble, and not take consistent action, let alone massive action, since your "bread is buttered" with that nice comfortable financial position you are in with your nice day job. As a result, you never achieve those "goals" you've set for yourself.

Comfort could cause a lack of motivation to really push to build your biz....

    ...It cuts both ways.

There isn't a one size fits all path to success.

There are SO MANY success stories of people who got started from a position of desperation, check to check living, lack, etc,. Sure, starting from a position of "comfort" may be ideal, but I think a persons drive and work ethic is the real determining factor.

@Stephen Dean, You got it man. Tough to stick with anything without a long term perspective. I like your comparison! That guy is making headlines! Cheers my friend.

@jushuaburnham, I agree for sure. You nailed it, "start." The purpose of this post was to express the negative effects of the quick fix mentality as well as the positive effects of rolling a snowball down a hill and guiding it until it turns into a massive avalanche. Did you think about what I wrote? Or just answer.. ? At any rate, thanks for your reply.

@Fred1 Thanks for commenting, and thanks for deliberately pointing out that comfort can sometimes cause a lack of drive. Maybe I should have been more clear: when you have learned how to drive yourself, based on your understanding of your own mind and how to be deliberate as opposed to passively unconscious, being comfortable and working toward long term outcomes is awesome .
