Secrets of the Subconscious

I'm a serious student of the mind --I'm interested in crafting better versions of M.Newman, and I know it starts from the inside. But, I must confess: the subconscious is a very vague domain for me. What EXACTLY is it? And, how can we leverage it for greater success? Thanks.

The subconscious is basically the part of your mind you're not aware of. You can learn more about it with the practice of self-observing. Simply observe your thoughts, responses, actions, in your everyday situations. You may think you're already doing that, but you'd be surprised on how skewed picture each one of us have for ourselves if you do it for a couple of days on a serious level. Try focusing on your actions, consciously controlling your thoughts flow, and observing the way your mind works. Until you know yourself, you can't control yourself. You can just be a lucky guy who by chance has a great self control, or an unlucky guy who hasn't. But in order to "gain" self control, you need to know yourself.
For more info, you might want to check "The Fourth Way" by Ouspensky.

Thanks for sharing your insights. These are very powerful words. I was struck by the simplicity and depth in: ''Until you know yourself, you can't control yourself''.

      I'm reading the recommended book.

Subconscious is everything. it relates the things happening today with things that happened in the past. It manages everything, hopes, dreams and expectations. Is the thing that links everything, its what tells you that something is dangerous or not good for you. It's the thing that protects you by blocking out bad experiences in order to make life bearable. In one line, the subconscious is everything.

The Hawaiian Kahunas have an interesting metaphor for how the mind works in total:

    1. The Subconscious = "The Children"
    2. The Conscious Mind = "The Mother"
    3. The Superconscious = "The Father"

And the way it works is, the mother runs around managing everything. It has some very important functions. Such as consciously instructing the subconscious, which is like a bunch of "children" or subpersonalities who will do whatever you ask them to, to make and keep you happy and progressing. Even have the subconscious talk to The Father, a.k.a. your deepest sense of self, soul, or whatever you prefer to call it. And then bring the results back to the conscious mind. And so on.

It's all very fascinating, and yes the subconscious (or the unconscious, as you might also call it) is a very big key to it all. Establish communication channels with your subconscious, and suddenly you're off the carriage path and on the superhighway. At least, that's the way it feels to me.

  • The subconscious mind controls about 98% of our thoughts, feelings, and actions. It's where our habits and beliefs are. If you want to know what kind of beliefs you have in your subconscious, take a look around you. Observe the results that you're getting. Are they what you want?

If not, then you need to "re-program" your subconscious mind to achieve the things you want. You need to use your conscious mind (which controls the other 2%) for the re-programming aspect. That's where effective tools such as visualization and affirmations come into play.

They help create the reality you want. The Law of Attraction is always alive, well, and working... all the time. That's what I believe. Hope this helps.

    I'm very grateful.

The thread was left unattended to...and I began to wonder whether others
found the subconscious as mysterious as I did.

    It's getting clearer now.
I'll pay more attention. It's kinda vague. Is it synonymous with the INTUITION?

    More. More.

The subconscious mind is what leads you to make basically 90 to 96% of the decision you make in your life.

If you want to take control over your subconscious you have to know how it works.

Its starts with a question. The subconscious mind works with questions.

So you make a question, then your subconcious brings up a picture, this picture has a representation to your mind and this is how your mind views it.

After the picture is how your mind reacts to the picture, and then is when your being produces a behavior.

Cause after all, the subconcious is the one who stores your habits, so therefore your habits are the things you do all the time.

So in order to make changes of your subcosncious mind you need to change the information in your head, so that you change your behaviors so that you can have different results in life.

    I hope this helps mike

I will try to explain it the way that I understand it myself. If you are reading this post then you are doing it with the conscious mind. The words go into the subconscious for you to recall at a later date. (the memory)

So, the key to success is to get the both of them to team up and work on your behalf. The conscious mind takes up about 12% of the power and the subconscious has the remaining 88%. Based on those fact the subconscious has the most power.

Now, this is very important. The conscious also act as a filter with the words. The reason that Copywriters use certain words is because there are words that paint a picture, and the picture gets through to the subconscious. It's the combination of "action verbs" and "adjectives".

It works just like a spam filter. Only certain word get past the filter. Keep in mind that sub mean below. So, the action part of the subconscious is deep down in that part of the subconscious.

Here is the fun part. Those words that get through will case you to take some action, but the action is unpredictable. What I mean by that is, some of the decisions will go you way and some won't.

So, now you see why Copywriting is so difficulty and expensive. I hope this helps clear things up a little.
