The Importance of Mindset in Business

It's been a while since I have posted in here and I thought I would share my latest blog post with you all.

Things have been keeping me busy with the direction of where my business is going and working on new projects so I haven't been able to spend much time here. One thing that has become clear to me during this time is how your mindset affects your business on an almost constant basis.

I have always been interested in how your mind and reality tunnel affects your perception of reality and how everyone sees things in their own way. One mans green could be another mans red and they are both correct. It is all based on your life experience and what has been imprinted on your mind.

We all have certain reactions to situations that have been imprinted onto us from our friends, family, the media and our own life experience. Some of these are good to have and others can hinder our ability to grow and create. For instance when you fall forward your arms automatically go in front of you to try and stop the fall because you know from when you were young that when you fall over it hurts to hit your face! You don't want to remove that reaction!

Unfortunately there are also bad "reflexes" that can hinder our ability to get to where we want to be in life. These are the things that stop us from trying new things and making concise decisions such as the "what if I'm wrong" mentality. It is better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all, that is an old quote that stands true today. If you never try anything new then you will never learn what works for you and you will never be able to learn from your mistakes.

When I first started online I was a serial buyer of the latest push button products always chasing the fast cash, thinking this is going to be easy. I wasn't focused on any particular outcome, I just wanted to make 'loadsa money' and live that dream lifestyle. Because I had no focus I wasn't setting any targets and therefore I didn't know if what I was doing was helping me or hindering me. Every thought you have either helps you to get to where you want to be or it takes you away from it.

When you start running your Internet Marketing business it can be very tempting to get the bug of buying into all the latest systems and strategies but unless you have a clear picture of what you want to accomplish with your business then you are going to struggle to get anywhere at all. The fact is you need to have an outcome in mind for your business so you can easily break it down to see what needs to happen to get to that stage. There may be some products out there that will help you to get to your targets quicker but you can only know what they are when you know where you are heading.

So take some time out today and write down what you want your life and business to be like. Be as detailed as possible so you can really capture what you have created, use emotions and feelings as well to really picture what you want life to be like. Once you have this written down keep referring back to it as often as you can.

The next step is to work out ways of creating that vision. Not just one way but many possibilities, broken down into a number of key steps. This way you are training your mind to think that it is possible to achieve your goals as you have laid out many different paths to that goal. The more paths the better as each path you lay out gives your mind more evidence that the goal is possible.

This technique can also help you to think of things more positively as if one of the routes you are following isn't working you will easily see that it is taking you away from your goals and you can change to another path. You will have learnt something from trying the first way and you can take that learning into the next route. There are no mistakes, just lessons to be learned.

I coud go on forever with this post. Take a leaf out of Charlie Sheen's book though, have that Winning mindset!!

Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think, or if you want some more information I can recommend 'A Bug Free Mind' by Andy Shaw and also 'Promethius Rising' by Robert Anton Wilson. Unfortunately at the time of writing this post 'A Bug Free Mind' is not availiable but I will keep you updated when I hear any more news. You can get 'Promethius rising' from all good bookstores. I think we should be supporting out local bookstores for physical books.

Speak soon,

Simon

    Simon,

    Thanks for the awesome post!

You have made a very good point that when trying to build a business online there is no such thing as fast cash, and if there is it won't last very long. In order to build any business you have to put in the work and have a clear vision of where you want to be in the future.

If you don't know what you want to accomplish out of your business, then more times you won't accomplish anything. You will get mixed up with all these get rich quick schemes there are out on the web.

You have to stay focused at all times.

    God bless,

  • Glad you enjoyed it William,

    One of my readers posted this as a comment to this post and I thought I would share it here too, it is from Alice in Wonderland;

Alice: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
The Cat: That depends a good deal on where you want to get to
Alice: I don’t much care where
The Cat: Then it doesn’t much matter which way you go
Alice: …so long as I get somewhere
The Cat: Oh, you’re sure to do that, if only you walk long enough

I think it sums it up nicely.

  • Very true! How do you get what you want, if you don't even know what you want.
If you don't believe in something you will fall for ANYTHING!

You need to know what you want, plan it out, and GO FOR IT!
