I believe in positive thoughts, and am needing to know how to bounce-back quicker.
In general, how can you be happy in an "unhappy world?"

    1) search for happiness in everything you do, look for the beauty in things that helps
    2) Listen to good music that make you "feel" good that have positive vibes
    3) Go out and do something you enjoy, take a walk, go let out some steam by exercising or something of that nature!

Those are somethings that came to mind =)

      I align with these definitely.

I think that generative thinking, installing effective patterns and working everyday toward some large goal is a great way to not only establish a purpose (which brings happiness naturally), but to cultivate the kind of self worth, growth and challenge that promotes real happiness.

From a neurological standpoint, it's about training yourself daily to be happy. Like Kenny said, find things that make you happy.. and if you're not automatically happy, understand that you then must create the happiness in your mind. You CAN get good at that. It's not static.

      Great thread,
      Great replies,
      Hope that helps.

There is a technique called "Emotional Freedom Technique" or EFT that allows you to "empty" negative energy first, once this is achieved, you can then prety much do whatever you want, all the drain is gone!

I believe this is more logical that the "think happy thoughts" when you have a big burden that sucks all your energy.

It all stems from your attitude. You can be as happy as you decide you want to be.

If you're looking for happiness from "out there" you'll never be happy. It comes from within - not any outside source.

        Hope this helps.

I'm a firm believer in living in the "Now". I don't dwell on the past, but i work toward the future. Being grateful for the good things in life goes a long way too.

I'm quite the news and information junkie, but I've really learned how not to take it personally. If you are worried about the "unhappy world", realize that you can only affect your small part of it. Do the best that you can to make it better. I'm not a religious person, but as a recovered alcoholic I do believe in the power of The Serenity Prayer: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.

    I hope this was helpful,

    Steve

Being happy is about being satisfied with what you have in the "Now" whether its material or family. Too many people always want more and that makes them unhappy eventually seeing that they can't always have everything they dream of.

Appreciate life "Now" and pick out a couple of hobbies you would love to dedicate yourself to will also bring you spikes of hapiness.

This is what worked for me:

1.) Start a gratitude journal & every morning, write out at least 1 thing that you are grateful for.

2.) Stop focusing on what you don't have. Write out a list of EVERY positive thing you currently have in your life. If you can't think of much, start with "I can see... I can hear... I'm in good health.... I have a nice place to stay & food to eat.... I have $50 bucks in the bank." etc,. I ended up with dozens of things on my list.

Doing those two things help shift my attitude and I'm am living a very happy life. I believe that gratitude plays a huge role in our being happy.

Personally I feel you need to bond with your innerself and learn to like who you are and enjoy being around yourself. Being happy on your own, by enjoying the person you are. Enjoy the gift that you were blessed with, Who You Are! Write down all the things you like about your self and if you were to find a friend would you be your friend? If you have any dislikes about you "Change" it. Only you can change it, if you need help changing it pray about it and BELIEVE YOU WILL CHANGE and YOU WILL.

i`m a christian. not just mouthing that, but living it. while most posts are in accordance to the word i.e bible, i`d like to propose that you focus, basically not on yourself, but someone else... say a hurting friend, homeless person and see what happens.

To become happy you must love yourself first. Change your perspective also and do not entertain negative things.

Good one Lisa! It is the day to day practicing of being grateful, and choosing happy thoughts! You just reminded me to do it right now.
We do need to be reminded all the time, but feels good when you do it!

Often times, chemical balances are made in the head. All these "happy" people tell you just to think happy thoughts, practice being happy, write a journal about what you're thankful for. In times likes those, I have experienced a great fall because none of that worked. I'll be the first to say: start with some medicine especially if you can't make yourself stop thinking.
