I have a chance to Interview two top Gurus in the Internet Marketing Community. I would like this not to be the same old stuff you see every day.

If you had the chance to Interview a marketing Guru what would you want to know?

I really appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Mike

    Questions I would ask:

What is the process they have used to get where they are now?

(I would have them explain in detail the process and how they felt while they were going through the process. did they feel like quiting?, what obstacles where in their way?, and how did people act around them before and after?)

then from there I will use the answers they gave me to ask more indepth questions.

I would let them do all the talking and all I would do is active listen to what they are saying and pick certain things to have them elab on.

Sonny really got the questions straight on.

To me when I interview someone, I think in terms of modeling.

What do I need to know from this person so that I can go ahead to do the same thing?

It is about strategy...what goes on in their mind? What gets them to go forward? Or what were they going away from?

A literal step by step in what they do and what goes on in their mind.

What would be the number one thing they would attribute their success to?

Of course, story telling goes a long way as well.

There are so many different types of interviews to be done and the main thing here is to have the outcome in mind? What is it that you want to walk away with?

Here's a friend, David Siteman Garlandm who interviewed over 300 entrepreneurs and interesting personalities. Check a few of them out and you will see his style:

Looking forward to hear what you come up with and the interview!

If they could take a trip to the past, to the point where they were just starting out in internet marketing, what would be the one advice that they would tell themselves in order to help them achieve success.

"I would let them do all the talking and all I would do is active listen to what they are saying and pick certain things to have them elab on."

That is pricelessly sage advice from Sonny!

John Maxwell, in his book "Thinking for a change" 11 ways highly successful people approach life and work, states this same advice.

He is a highly successful man and employs people and teams of people to achieve his objectives. He tells how he prepares for, and interviews experts/successful people.
He used this approach early on in his career, not only to gain insight and knowledge, but perhaps equally importantly, to establish a lasting trust/respect relationship with the particular person. (This could be a high-value "spin-off" for you in your interviews?)

As a last thought...in preparation for and structuring of your interview approach, perhaps consider what your eventual intent is with this interview. In other words, think from the point of view of who/what market/(s!) demographic you want to present this information to and for what purpose.

I'd be most interested in seeing the results of your interviews! Please keep me informed.

Best wishes and go get 'em!

    Piero

ps- be prepared to cope with (and capitalise on?!) any random direction the interview may take....you are interviewing a human- a species notorious for highly idiosyncratic randomness (lol)

Being a newbie, I have always been fascinated by the Internet Gurus . I will certainly like to ask them about their inspiration which force them to reach such great heights.

Pick something specific they are doing and ask them about that.

They get a lot of "how'd you get to where you are", but they don't get a lot of "On your webinars I see you pitch the more expensive product first, then the less expensive option... What's the reasoning behind that?"
