Procrastination, Resistance, Self-Sabotaging, Oh My!

I've found this in both an Eben Pagan course called "Wake Up Productive" and Steven Warren's(?) book "The War of Art," so I'm starting to think this is significant. Pagan calls it "reaching escape velocity," and Warren calls it "The Resistance." So what is it?

It's whenever you don't want to do something that will bring you closer to your goals. Call it procrastination, laziness, self-sabotaging, whatever, we've all felt it.

What do we do about it? It seems that both Pagan and Warren say the same thing.
1. Realize it's there
2. Realize it's huge. It's not a pesky little thing to notice, it's a giant boulder sitting in front of us, and we have to chip through it.
3. Overcome it with daily repetition. Decide what you need to do to get where you're going, and do it every day come hell or high water.
4. It doesn't go away. It can get weaker. It can take other forms, but it never goes away.

Thoughts?

I think that this is the biggest thing that hold people back. I agree that it is a big thing. It can be your biggest enemy. I in my own life is struggling with it as many other people do day in and day out.

I think that is why alot of people or experts are starting to tell people that if they are going to start a business or something. To do what they love to do so it wouldnt feel like work. The saying is "if you do what you love, then you will never work a day in your life" I feel that is true and can be applied in this topic.

People procrastinat and become lazy because they dont want to do the work that is nessasary to get them where they want to go. Im not an expert, but Im just saying if you do something you love to do you would just make it alot easier on yourself.

      My 2cent.

    I agree with this.

We all have some inner self doubt holding us back, we fear pain and rejection so we try to avoid it.

A lot of self development is indeed learning to overcome this fear that holds us back through procrastination or self doubt.

yes, there's something inside you that doesn't want to do it becuse it knows that if you do it, you're going to success. I think it's like fear, you need to attack it.

Ive actually found a way to overcome it:

      1) You have to accept that it is a problem and promise yourself that your going
to work against it immediatley because its the only way.

      2) read 1 again, then ask yourself '' What do leaders to differently to followers?''

      3) go downstairs and make a coffee even if your about to go to bed. Just do it, make a coffee.

      4) Whilst drinking the coffee, write down a list which reveals the benefits of carrying out what ever important plan that your procrastinating. write them all down.

      5) then just think but don't write about what life would be like if you don't carry out this plan.

      6) Just do it! Start working on it, forget the time, forget how hard your day has been. Successful people believe or not, are different from the majority. Why is this? Because they are Do'ers.

      7) if you get to the doing stage of this and you implement these steps. I can assure you that your on your way to succeeding as this is very difficult to do.

Please telll me your not still reading........................
Make that coffee and get ahead, stop reading and looking for the perfect answers because there is nothing like a perfect answer. only YOU can perfect it to the best of your abilities provided you do one thing.
Take Action, don't let your Mind control you.

    Hey Gin,

    It's definitely a great point.

What it comes down to is our habits.

We either have habits that are empowering us ... or habits that are disempowering us.

I like to look at turning the most empowering options/alternatives to the disempowering habits as 'Rituals' to create.

For example, one of my daily rituals is meditation which helps me have greater presence throughout the day.

So I say look at what you need to do consistently for yourself, and create a ritual out of it.

    With Love & Gratitude,
