When The 'NIGHT DEMONS' Whisper!

You know when something is troubling you or you are REALLY
worried about something? It might be relationship worries,
or worrying about one of your kids, or worrying about money,
your bills and how you are going to meet them this month?

That last one, 'money worries', is probably the most common
for a lot of people and for many people visiting this forum from
what I have seen.

Do you find that those worries seem to esacalate to huge
and very scary proportions when you are laying in bed at
night?

Strange how your worries seem much worse at night isn't it?

That's when the 'Night Demons' come to call.

They'll whisper in your ear and tell you that things are
even worse than they seem. That your money worries cannot
be sorted because you've got yourself in too deep this time!

There's no way you are going to meet the mortgage bill or
the car payment, or the credit card bills this month, they'll
whisper.

Does that sound familiar? Has that ever happened to you?
Perhaps it's happening now.

I remember when the 'Night Demons' used to come a'whispering
in my ear on almost a nightly basis. I'd lay awake until the
early hours in the morning, listening to them telling me how
I was a failure financially, how I was letting down my family
and how I'd never get out of the debt I was in.

You know what the solution was for me? What stopped those
little beggars visiting me every night?

Taking ACTION!

Now, before you start thinking that that is a little trite,
hear me out for a minute here...

If you just try this when the 'Night Demons' are calling on
you, you will find that even just taking a LITTLE action
towards solving your problems can have a tremendously uplifting
effect on how you feel.

You will ALWAYS start to feel better once you know that you
are actually taking steps towards solving your problem. No
matter how little those steps may seem at the time, the very
fact that you are doing SOMETHING towards resolving your problem
will make you feel like you are making progress.

In my case, when my own debts seemed insurmountable, I actually
MADE myself sit down and do the one first step that most people
find the most difficult when dealing with their debt situation.

But it was that one FIRST step that ultimately led me to the life
of financial freedom and peace of mind I have today. To the point
where I am actually typing this from a penthouse apartment on
Magnetic Island, Australia, whilst looking out over the ocean and
listening to the sound of the waves. I've rented it for 6 months and
it's now my office (for the next 6 months at least).

But it's worth repeating that it was taking that FIRST step that
ultimately led me here.

That step is to actually face the TRUE facts of your position
and the reality of what you are dealing with. It involves,
sitting down and listing on a notepad EVERY single monthly
outgoing that you have, every bill, every debt, every cost you
have.

Yes, that can be very scary (and that's why most people act
like the proverbial ostrich and bury their heads in the sand
and just hope the problem will go away), but the fact is, that
once you KNOW what you are dealing with, only THEN can you start
to work out a solution.

Once you have that list in your hand, believe it or not, you will
have started on the path that will solve your financial situation.

Your next step will be to decide what things (like maybe the
satellite TV subscription etc) can be cut out immediately.

You start by cutting the costs that are not vital. You then contact
your credit card companies and all the other service providers,
including your mortgage company and you tell them that you NEED
to renegotiate your monthly payments. (Try it. It works because
they want to help you MEET your bills not default on them).

Then what you do is you figure out a way that you can actually
bring in ADDITIONAL monthly income to the point where ALL your
monthly bills are being covered from this additional income,
without even touching your day-job income.

For many, many of my students that solution to gaining an ADDITIONAL
monthly income that can ultimately set them free, has been learning
how to make money online using the various methods I teach.

For many visitors to this forum it will be some form of internet marketing
that eventually unlocks those chains of debt.

That's a journey, but like all journeys, it starts with the very
first step.

So if the 'Night Demons' are whispering to you, (or someone you know),
make that FIRST step and notice how much better you begin to feel.

Take it Easy!

    Roy, excellent advice.

Perhaps the Night Demons are nocturnal because with the lights out we have no "reality check." No stimuli coming in to focus our attention, and so the mind is free to wander around and blow everything out of proportion.

Certainly, focusing on a first step is good advice to focus the mind in a particular direction.

I think the reason many people experience "Night Demons" is actually twofold. First, they are "demons" because they haven't adequately addressed the issues in their lives, and Second, they are nocturnal becuase many (if not most) people are so used to being entertained, or at least have so many demainds on them they don't really think about their lives during the day. Once they are laying in bed awake, without external stimulation, the issues all come crashing in.

Perhaps one of the best ways I know of combating the Night Demons is to reduce them to a minor level though a number of techniques.

One of the most effective is to pay attention during the day, and to keep notes of the things that are important. Prioritizing things help keep the little ones from becoming big issues.

At night, I review the day, note any progress made, and have a pad and pen handy for anything that pops in as a potential issue. By jotting down anything that pops up, I can then safely "forget" about it, knowing that I'll be able to pick up the thread in the morning and do something positive instead of just worrying about something endlessly.

Making lists is an effective way to keep track of the things that count, and to more easily recognize the ones that don't matter so much. It also helps to notice as you are able to check things off when you've completed them. Often we focus so much on a difficult path ahead, we lose track of all of the things we have been able to accomplish while working toward our goals. Without the positive reinforcement of being able to remind ourselves how much we have done, many of us loose faith in ourselves or our future, which only makes it more likely the Night Demon will come to visit.

In place of the Night Demon, I now have an opportunity to think coherently about positive things, which greatly helps maintain a positive outlook on life, even when times may not have been so rosy.

Nick - Nice response. Exactly! As I said...

OMG Roy, excellent advice. I recently got together with a friend and we spent hours, days even, talking about this very thing. She was trying to break into some online work and I was burning out with stuff that I was doing and both of us were really into the fret mode.

It was a night of those demons that got us motivated. What you say is so dead on. Taking action. Worrying about stuff never helps but changing our patterns really has made a difference. We were forced to break things down into manageable steps. In her case, she love writing and started focusing only on her writing -- she has her website, goodwebwriting, set up and has done some writing already.

I am updating my own website and oddly enough, all the other stuff is falling into place.

    Thanks for this post.

      Nice one Joanne!

And I bet you both felt all the better for taking action and actually doing something to relieve your worries.

      Way to go!

Well, that seems to be the problem with most of the people. See, this is something that I rarely care about. I think about earning money, when I see that there is an opportunity. That helps me remain relaxed, and helps me earn good too!
