I'm been reading “Feel The Fear And Do it Anyway” (Susan Jeffers). And, I thought I'd share this little success revelation with you.

The term “positive thinking” has something of a negative connotation. (Sometimes people use it as an excuse for facing reality.)

Well - I think positive thinking is amazing. Because it can turn failure into success. Because it can make you happier. And, because it can make you wealthy. (Plus another million things.)

However, there is an automatic assumption that negative thinking is realistic, and positive thinking is unrealistic … Here’s the “revelation:” It has been proven that 90% of what we worry about never happens. And, that being the case, our worries have a 10% chance of coming true. (Therefore …)

Positive thinking is more realistic
than negative thinking!

So next time then, when you are thinking negatively about something, remember something positive can happen. (And then start thinking about that.) This can apply to health, wealth, relationships and many things that you find fearful.

I agree with you on how the terminology "positive thinking" has been perceived. It sounds almost like a brush-off.

I will say that learning about this type of thinking has saved my life. Literally saved me. There are many methods to this. I have found a variety of them work.

Negative thinking creates acidic waste in our bodies. The more we worry and think about things that "could" happen, the more out bodies produce acid. The more we focus on positive things, the more we combat this process.

There are plenty of books out there that are a total waste of time and energy, but there are some excellent ones too. The ones that I have found extremely "mind-saving" are:

Feelings Buried Alive Never Die - I got this for about $7.00 on amazon. And The Genie in Your Genes. I got this at Barns and Noble a few years ago.

I have this letter I wrote that is has a very positive outlook on today, tomorrow and life. I read it everyday. One line in there says, "I am excited about my future"

When I was at my worst I was reading that about 5 times a day. It's about 2 pages long. After about a month or so I remember one day walking into the living room and actually feeling excited about my future.

This was a HUGE breakthrough because I had been paranoid by my future.

Those books really helped me comprehend this "positive thinking" way of life. I have been a positive thinking person all my life. I wake up happy, go to bed happy and I have a very very happy marriage. So, what is there to be unhappy or negative about?

Sometimes it's a hormonal emballance, sometimes it's chemical. Sometimes it's too much stress. Mine was stress and hormones. I tried medication and that almost killed me. The books helped me overcome the worst of my symptoms.

Today I still have worries, but I know how to work with my mind and it takes discipline to keep it in check, but it is well worth it.

    Best Wishes,

'Feel the Fear And Do It Anyway' is a superb book, and this was one of the key points I took from it and have carried with me.

It's so true that most of the time, things were never as bad as we thought they were going to be.

Great point and thanks for reminding us of it!

We all tend to know what it is that we want. The difficulties which face us serve to draw attention to positive elements which could provide solutions. Lonely people sense that having friends would help and those financially stressed hope for more funds to ease the pain.

Unfortunately, the very awareness of the problem can become a fixation and we lose our focus. Instead of moving eagerly towards our solution, we resist the rush forward by constantly fighting battles against our problems. We attack them with thoughts that arouse anger, fear, resentment and other negative feelings.

When, at some point, we learn to release those thoughts and stop fighting battles we don't need to win, we free ourselves to move ahead, as in this image:

He rode his thoughts into the wind until, denied and near beaten, he turned into the flow and swiftly soared. ~ Ivan Kelly

I've found that facing and fully experiencing my bouts of anxiety and fear was more helpful to me than trying to change my state by force...

Once you learn how to locate negative energy in your body and how to listen to it, you'll find that fear and worry dissolves by itself at some point. Fear of fear is the worst fear of all and I believe that a lot of people follow positive thinking because they are afraid of negative thoughts.

Thoughts are nothing but thoughts and they originate from you, so you shouldn't be afraid of them... Once you start seeing negative energy for what it really is, you won't be afraid of your bad thoughts and you'll naturally become a more joyous person...

Wayne Dyer quotes a similar thing in one of his books. There are two types of worry. Those that you can do something about, and those you have no control over.

If you can do something about it, there is no need to worry, just take action. If there is nothing you can do, like the worry about your death for example, then again, there is no need to worry.

2 types of worry, neither worth the worry!

Thanks for the book 'review' I'll get online and try to pick that up.

    Cheers

      That is the challenge.

However, it isn't true that "very few person CAN think positive at the time of adverse situation" (my caps). What is true is that few people actually learn how to do it. However, it is possible to learn how and, with practice, it becomes easier to see beyond situations which trigger a negative reaction.

Part of the solution lies in being willing to grow and this happens when you start to see your problems as opportunities, not just as difficulties. When you can take the next step beyond the negative, knee-jerk reaction, that's when you take control of your life!

Everything in life has a positive side as well as a negative side. I taught this theory to my daughter when she was 5 years old and she picked it up right away. She started naming everything and then coming up with the positive side of it and the negative side of it. Sharp kid!!!

Anyways, I think choosing to see things in the positive way is so much more healthy to us humans. If you think about the positive things, you smile, you are motivated and you feel strong and energized. If you focus on the negative side of things, you become depressed, unmotivated and lethargic. So the choice is obvious to me... Don't dwell on the negatives and think on the positive side of things. Life is too short to focus on the things that are downers. Let's focus on the things that will help us succeed in life whether it is in our business, our relationships or anything else in life for that matter.

For instance, in our business endeavor, let's focus on getting to our goal and believing that we can overcome all of the obstacles ahead to get to where we want to be. Let's not focus on the fear of failure and the fear of losing money, etc. It is all a learning process anyway. The more mistakes we make the more we learn not to make those same mistakes again. Eventually, we will do the things that are right for us and we will soar!!!

If you think you can, or if you think you can't, you are right!

I believe in all of us and the good work that we have before us. We can and will succeed in our online business or our offline business... it is just a matter of time now. We will succeed if we never ever give up!!!

Brick walls are there to test us, to see if we really, really want this thing that we are working so hard to achieve. I wish all of us the very best!!!

This was a great post, I love all those types of books. I myself mostly focus on affirmations. If you think about it, everything we say is a an affirmation. The funny thing about affirmations though is that if you start saying affirmations and you believe them on a deep subconscious it can be both very powerful in a positive or negative way.

You see all the time when you see people saying everything in their life is falling apart and lo and behold it is or if you see the person who says their on top of the world and sure enough they are.

Another thing I heard was chaos creates success and I believe this is true especially after hearing Brian Tracy's story as well as other successful motivational men like Joe Vitale and whatnot. Every thought going on in your mind is very real and you just have to be real careful which one you pay attention to. There's a lot to learn when is come to understanding the mind.

I don't believe that when you think negatively that positive thing can come out of it. That's a lie. remember that our thoughts influences us. If you think positively you produce positive future, when you think negatively you produce negative future. Negative thoughts can affect us greatly without knowing it. Don't give in to those thoughts. When it comes because it will come cast it out with good thoughts. When you make it a habit to think positively, you see things begin to work out good for you.

If there's something I've learned over the course of past few years, it is that there simply is nothing to worry about.

Think about this for a moment:

Your mind can not tell something that's real from something you vividly imagine.

This is really true, as we think in pictures, and as we worry, oh boy we vividly imagine!

Further on, your body reacts to the thoughts you think - negative thoughts are destructive for your body (this is infact proven). So why worry? Tell me? If it's going to happen, I'd much rather let it happen and hit me once, than experience the thing a thousand times in my head, and in the end it might never even happen.

What I do - is I prepare! I anticipate and prepare myself.

One more thing - there are no such things as failures.

Every failure is a learning experience that carries a seed of equivalent success in the future. So next time you feel like you failed, remember - you have just been enriched

THINGS HAVE NO MEANING OTHER THAN WHAT YOU GIVE TO THEM!

I agree with your post that 90% of what we worry about does not come true and therefore to think positive is more realistic than negative thinking.

The problem is most people still think negitively.

So the question is how can a negative state of mind be transformed into a positive state of mind? One way this can be done is by changing your negative thought to the opposite or positive. So for example if your thought was about your ill health you would start thinking of health.

Another method is to use your imagination to form a positive image in your mind everytime a negitive thought comes to you.
