I consider the main reason for not achieving goals is because they don't really believe they can achieve them.

Joe earns $100/month from IM. He sets a goal to earn $5000/month.

His self image is not really congruent with the goal. He sees himself as a $100/month person.

On the other hand, Andrew earns $100.000/month from IM. He goes bankrupt and loses everything. He then generates again $100.000/month in a short time. Why? Because he knows he can do it.

My process for setting goals is as follows:
    1. I'm using the SMART formula.
    2. I'm breaking the goal into 4 milestones with deadlines.
    3. I determine what help I need with it in form of HR, tools, money, knowledge.
    4. I determine the benefits to my life (the real benefits, not the politically incorrect ones).
    5. I determine the person I need to become to achieve that goal.
    6. I determine the new habits I must develop, habits I must expand and habits I must stop.
    7. Then I pick the three top habits and I follow them daily, until I have achieved my goal.

Every week, I set three goals. Usually, these are the next milestone from my major goals. And I work towards them.

Of course, no plan ever survives the first contact with the enemy. So the plan may be changed, after one week or one month.

No plan will ever be valid from A to B, especially if it's long term. But planning is valuable. It allows you to determine the entire battlefield and to determine the best course of action. If A fails, you know B may work. If A becomes workable again, then you move back to A. And you make corrections until you get where you want to be.

    That's all there is.

Believe you can do it or set something reasonable you can actually think you can accomplish.

Then break it down, see what person you must become to achieve it (or find someone who achieved it and find out what were his habits) and get to work.

    Thanks,
    Razvan

Goal is achieved by acumen, attitude, approach and activeness. Pro-active outlook plays the pivotal role here. achievers pay whatever it takes to be there. a lot of sacrifices are required at times. But the one who overcomes all the crisis situation will have the bonanza to kiss his goal.

This is a big part of it, but I'm sure Rob it right. Many of us having limiting beliefs that hold us back. While it may appear to some of you from the outside that the people who simply do the work are the ones who succeed, if you could get into the minds of all your affiliates, for instance, you might see how limiting beliefs and self-doubt, often rooted in the past, plays a huge role in whether or not an affiliate does the work.

I think following through and taking action is the key. Just making a list and doing the 80 things it takes to achieve your big main goal... day in, day out, despite lack of short term results... just keep progressing, building, writing, making videos... whatever it is just keep doing it one step at a time and you will move towards your goal.

I think too many people get distracted, discouraged by the lack of results, or see the grass is greener on the other side of the hill and try something else.

I see it all the time in the 100s of affiliates who setup sites and blogs about my products. They start with good intentions, get a whole wordpress blog with a few posts, images and even videos up within a day... then thats it... they don't add to it, they get discouraged as they don't see any sales (as they don't drive any traffic through it) and they move on... probably to build another blog in a different niche, or try a different "method"...

..the difference between my successful affiliates and those who failed is only that the successful ones carried on, adding more posts the next day, getting some backlinks, driving some traffic... just kept going one step at a time and in the end they became successful. Not a matter of knowledge, or skills so much as just carrying on.

Its all about personal belief and hard work in my book. as others have said many set goals but never really believe they can attain them - so what happens they don't -funny that!
So bottom line believe in yourself and work hard at it - that does it for me

My two cents on this topic:

    1. A goal without a deadline is just a wish. You need to know what you want to accomplish, and when you will accomplish it.

    2. I like to set daily goals. I say, "By the end of today, I will have done 'x'.", "x" being any one thing that will get me closer to accomplishing my big goals. Since it's to be accomplished during my waking hours, it's usually something small, but significant in the pursuit of my goals. These daily increments help me feel that I'm making progress every day.
