What are your roadblocks?

What are your roadblocks and more importantly, what techniques do you use to overcome them?

I have found that as I set my weekly goals and doggedly pursue them, I am encountering roadblocks. The self-sabotaging stuff that appears to be based in the subconscious.

I was cruising along for about 5 weeks, then hit a wall. It was more than a speed bump, so I think it's something I need to really look at and overcome.

For me, it's a self-image issue, an old conditioned reflex that says "People aren't going to understand you. They're not going to accept your ideas. You're not going to be successful at communicating with a broad audience."

So I'm working with core beliefs and using re-programming techniques to alter that early conditioning.

I'm very interested in what other Warriors have encountered as roadblocks and MOST IMPORTANTLY, what techniques are you using to successfully eliminate your roadblocks?

A good mentor will help a lot. I have learned the power of positive projection from my mentor. The moment I am at a road block or in a predicament, rather than dwelling in the negative state of mind, I will replay the entire scenario at times in a nonsensical way back and forth making it more and more positive each time towards an outcome I would like to see. This will help me de-stress as well.

    Hey Cynthea,
My favorite technique is The Sedona Method, basically it allows you to release the energy which is creating the resistance. It's amazingly simple and after a bit of practice it becomes second nature. The following is the reader's digest version.

Start by sitting back in your chair and relax.

Next bring to mind something that you are resisting.

Now just let it be for a moment feel the tension that is created in your body.

(now ask yourself the following questions)
Could I welcome this feeling of resistance?

Could I just allow it to be here?

Then, could I let it go?

    Would I?

    When?

(continue to go through the questions until the resistance is gone)

If you continue to practice this technique, you will be amazed at how effortlessly you remain on task.

I highly recommend picking up "The Sedona Method" by Hale Dwoskins.

    To your success,
    Mike

I've tried the Sedona Method and it sure works if you do it. In fact, I just found all the recordings I got with the course.

But right now I'm following the Ultimate Technique for Success written by Ken Roberts. He's started his UTSClub and Ken is not in favor of setting goals. Considering that Ken has been extremely successful and becasue I hate setting goals his method sounds like something I will enjoy.

Right now I'm using visualization to overcome my roadblocks. It seems to be working for me.

I'm using visualization too and really enjoying using my imagination to see my way through hurdles. I am using Dr. Lee Pulos' program "The Power of Visualization" and find it extremely thorough. Pulos has worked a great deal w/ professional athletes and Team Canada. I really appreciate his joining both the left brain *and* right brain in applying the principles of visualization.

I also am a huge fan of the Sedona Method and revisit that every couple of years. There's another discussion of this method on the WF at http://www.warriorforum.com/mind-war...na-method.html.

SM offers great technique for releasing control.

From my childhood only I had made an aim that I have to do something special in my life.
My mentors had also encouraged me for the same.

Mine are mostly knowing exactly what steps to take next. I know my long term goals but sometimes, since I'm new to this, I don't know all the steps to take and in which order. Sometimes even I don't know how to take the next step. Then I fall into the trap of over analyzing and reading to much on it when often I should just make a move. If it works, great! If not, I've learned something for next time!

I use the bottom drawer method. If I run into a road block, I file it in the bottom right hand drawer of my desk. If I don't conjure up a road block buster in two weeks, I simply let it stay in my drawer until it disappears all by itself. You'd be amazed at how many road blocks have melted away sight unseen.

Wow... i wish it would have been that easy for me! that is awesome that such a simple technique works for you. I've needed to spend a lot of time with Psycho-cybernetics techniques to re-engineer my self image and I found that enormously helpful -- it actually works!

Now, I'm going to ask you not to insult me by suggesting that it is really is as easy as you say (you're suggesting that our subconscious programming goes away all by itself)... I don't know how it is for everyone else, but in order for me to develop a rip roarin' success mentality has taken alot of work --- I had some crazy, whacked programming and conditioning in the 1st years of my life.

This (the early, early conditioning and programming by authority figures) is the stuff I've found that really creates the roadblocks, because it's the content of our subconscious. It's the subconscious that throws up the roadblocks. So a lot of us have little choice other than to do the hard work of conscious reprogramming.

But I'm really pleased that your bottom drawer technique works -- that's awesome!

        Hi cynthea,

        What a great question!

What's interesting to me is your use of the vehicle /
        road metaphor.

"I was cruising along for about 5 weeks, then hit a wall. It
was more than a speed bump, so I think it's something I need
to really look at and overcome."

        Ouch!

The metaphorical imagery we create in our mind can have
a very powerful effect on our perception of reality and
they often function automatically outside of our conscious
        awareness.

Inside the structure of these symbols can be limiting beliefs
and by becoming aware of our metaphors, like you have
in the quote above, we can change the image directly and
thus change the limiting beliefs hidden inside the metaphor.

This can be fun and simple.

I wonder what would happen if you were to get back in the
car (or was it a bike?) and notice the image of the "wall"
        just before you hit it?

Notice it's characteristics: What colour is it? How big is it?
How close is it. Is it to the left / right / centre.

So what could you do to remove that block?

Smash it up with a sledgehammer? Kick it way off into the sun!
        Blast a hole through it?

Or simply create some roads around and above it?

Go beyond it now and notice in detail the road and panoramic
        landscape beyond...

        And then shift gear!

Procrastination and fear of not "getting it right" are my biggest roadblocks. I tend to tinker with everything -- squeeze pages, products, product launches, etc. If my wife didn't occasionally say "OK, so when will it be done?" when I ask for her opinion of my latest version of something, nothing would EVER get done.

My solution, then -- become accountable to a spouse, friend, or family member to get things finished.

What if you also change YOUR individual definition of perfection from "getting it right" to
"getting it published" or "getting x, y and z done this week" (or done today...) ?

Also realizing, of course, that you are never going to offer something that is rubbish. Or intentionally do a bad job of it.

Change your definition. Change your productivity target to something that is productive for your audience. (It doesn't do your fans or customers any good if they don't see your offer cause it's not "perfect" yet.)

Hope that makes sense and everybody finds it helpful.

I think i have tried using this method but did not know that it is called bottom drawer method. what i have discovered is the road block will not be the same with time...and with time it stops being a road block to a road to follow.

Will give you a little hint. No matter what you do, there's going to be people out there who don't like it, you, the concept, or whatever. Never let that stuff get you down.

As for roadblocks, there are none. Only hurdles that need to be jumped.

Well, I think you are talking about fears right? Like some people have the fear from height. The simple way to come over it, is to just force yourself for once to experience it, and once you are over. The fear is gone.

Sorry, no, I'm not talking about fears. I'm talking about the subconsciously-rooted stuff. Jung called it our shadow.

Personally, I think fears are easy to deal with.

      I just use this acronym:
      Feeling
      Exicited
      And
      Ready

My main roadblock right now if finances which are out of my control and they are so annoying. But i just use the time waiting to design, think, create etc.. so i never truly feel blocked or stopped in what I'm trying to do. I'd suggest doing the same if something bothers you like your feeling that people won't get it (your idea) go through it in your head and throw the arguments at yourself and work on replying to them and explaining them i feel this will help you.

I use two white boards. I scribble goals, pictures, tasks, and ideas on one. On the other one, I write concrete goals that I can take from the first one, with time frames. Then I check them off as I do them. Sometimes I do them in the time frame suggested, sometimes not. Eventually I can cross them all off and I go do something else.

    Rinse, and repeat.

The interesting thing about the whiteboards is that what seems like an important goal one day, doesn't seem so important the next, so sometimes goals get scratched. You've got to be flexible about these things. Sometimes stuff is still important no matter how long you wait, so it's carried onto the next session of boards. This is when you know you need to get it done.
