Of course proper incentive is able to motivate you. Pleasure, money, etc.
But, in my case, what really motivates me is the process. I have learned to appreciate and enjoy each and every step of the process. I know my reward will be waiting for me, i just know it, but I don't make that the core of it. If you do the job right, you'll get your prize, that's for sure, but don't make the prize the reason why your working. Find the prize or the pleasure in the process. If you do it right, the rest will come along.

Speaking of Will Smith movies, if you ever feel like the world is over watch "The Pursuit of Happiness". Anytime i want to give up i just think about what he went through before he finally succeeded. It was much harder then anything I've had to deal with. The fact that it is a true story makes it that much more motivating.

Btw. A lot of things motivate me, like. vision board, good movies (especially with Will Smith), books (4 Hour Workweek, Rich Dad Poor Dad etc. etc), Family, Earnings (I am hitting high xx.xxx right now and aiming in xxx.xxx in next few month) - It should motivate you too. Internet Marketing isn't easy thing, you need to take action, hard work and you will see results.

When I look at all the unhappy people with "real" jobs, plugging away everyday to scrape by, this motivates me to never settle for anything less than what will make me happy. I believe life is too precious to spend the bulk of my days doing things I resent.

I like being motivated by hope!! I know there is a great future for me but to get there I know I need to work hard. Knowing that my efforts will yield great results keeps me going! Knowing that doing nothing is the first step to failure pushes me even harder!

I'm greatly motivated by the picture of what ''I'm becoming''. I'm a work-in-progress, and in a sense there's no end to my growth. I love the feeling of motion--dropping bad habits, acquiring better ones...the process of continuously shaping my ''self'' into something/someone more beautiful, smarter and lighter. I'm motivated by that vision.

Being able to look me in the eye every morning and know I had a positive impact on someone's life the day before. I try to do it surreptitiously so it doesn't look like I'm running around trying to garner praise. I learned that trick from a very successful man when I was in my 20's. 40 years later and it still works.

the pleasu(r)e awaiting is great motivation to me...

But seriously though, I suppose avoiding something negative (like not being able to pay rent or care for your family) can be strong motivation for some folks, but I'd rather take the positive approach.

  • I think my biggest motivation is to quit my job completely. I have recently gone part time to dedicate more time for my " online endeavors". I am a single mom, so I want to spend more time with my son, and not work over 50 hours and never get to see him. I can not wait for the day I can quit my job and do IM full-time. I LOVE the internet. I can " work" for hours and not notice. This is something I love to. Also when I have an order for a new site or re-design, that really motivates me!

I do IM purely because I am materialistic. Don't get me wrong, I only have a few wants which I have over my work station which I look at every time I sit in front of the computer to work on my business which are

    1) The type of house I want which backs onto my private beach which I can fish off.
    2) My modest fishing boat.
    3) Top of the line Shimano light tackle salt water fishing gear.

Ideally, my end goal is to have financial freedom by building my own little internet business empire and being able to look people in the eye and tell them I have a successful business which makes me really really good money.

The thing that motivates me the most is knowing this is what I want to do for a full time income. What keeps me going is that this is something I am passionate about and I know that I can help people with the same qualities get the same results.

So essentially just knowing this is possible challenging but well worth the time and effort to get yourself there knowing all of this is what you did and put your effort and heart into.

    What motivates me... is freedom.

I'm 22 and I live with my mother. She gives me food, money and shelter. She maintains me in every way possible. I had a job as a math tutor and did well, but quitted because I wanted to work on an "Internet project" this year. I was also attending University; my uncle was paying for my overpriced tuition (for which I'm thankful), but I decided to stop receiving his help primarily because my relatives were using the "if you don't do what we order you, we will tell your uncle to stop paying you da university!!!11" in order to control me and control very personal aspects of my life.

Thus, given that I currently don't have a job, and my mother maintains me, I'm currently her "slave". She has ALL the rights to meddle in my life, and order me to do whatever she desires. She says she "supports" me and wishes I do good in my "Internet projects"... but inside, she hopes I fail misserably and start University again like a good tamed corporate slave.

If I want to be free, to have my own place, to go out and return home whenever the heck I want, to make MY own rules, to see whoever I want and do whatever I want with the people I know without nobody meddling in... to live without having to answer to anyone...

    ... I need money.

And when I learned about Internet Marketing I was in awe about the endless possibilities of a much greater life that I could have ever had with an overpriced cardboard that says "Ingeniero de Sistemas". I wanted to try... and use IM as a tool to break free!!

Freedom motivates me. To me nothing is more important in life than to actually be in charge of your own destiny, and not having to do what others tell you or they kick you to the streets and starve to death otherwise...

... however... when I get trapped by Internet distractions like DeviantArt and Youtube (I don't have a Facebook, yayz!!), and I waste massive ammounts of time... I wonder if freedom really motivates me enough...

I'm a slave... but it's comfy. That "comfyness" and instant gratification that Internet entertainment offers can really screw up one's motivation and progress...

    Hey, thanks for reading!

Currently, the finite nature of time motivates me, so I guess fear of wasting time. I wish it were something else! This didn't sink in until almost the end of my college years. I was always terribly afraid, but like a switch, I suddenly had strong motivation to not remain idle and progress in everything that i chose to pursue.

      What motivates me?

      Money!

I love making money, I love having money and I love being able to spend money. Money doesn't buy happiness because money itself makes me happy. If I'm feeling down and take a look at my bank account I instantly feel better! ( I don't care if that sounds horrible lol)

      Freedom!

I love working for myself, I love knowing that my time is my own and that I benefit from my own efforts. I love telling other people that I work for myself and make my own hours.

      Success!

I love succeeding. I love snagging new clients and I love hearing how much they like my work. Blindly shooting out letters to potential clients and then snagging a few gives me a real rush.

      Appreciation!

I've worked a lot of jobs and most of them were thankless and soul crushing. I love when customers and clients really appreciate the work I do for them, I love when they come back, again and again. I had NEVER been thanked for a job I had until I started working for myself.

      Addiction!

I am 100% addicted to working for myself and I am obsessed with making money on my own terms. I have absolutely no interest what so ever in going back to being a worker drone.

      No Commute!

No more buses, no more subways, no more early morning rush. No hours spent in traffic. Every time I turn on the news and hear "2 hour delay on the LIRR" "3 hour delay on the tunnel" I KNOW I've made the right decision and I feel awful for those people stuck in hours of traffic on a Friday night.

      My family!

I make my own hours and control my own time. If I want to spend a day with the wife I can. If I want to take a few days off to visit my dad, I can. Hell, if I feel burnt out and want to spend a day playing Fallout I can do that too!

The bottom line is that I firmly believe in individual freedom and the ability to create one's own destiny. We only have so many years on this planet and I want to spend my time however I want!

Is it a question of either PAIN or PLEASURE?

I think its a bit of both.

    What motivates me:
    - loved ones
    - good life
    - dream lifestyle
    - material things that would give me comfort/make my easier & more pleasurable
    - being able to travel around the world
    - FREEDOM
    - being location independent

    that sums up everything..

but seriously, with IM, it can be really hard to motivate yourself sometimes. I know all of my inspirations, but I really have to give myself a kick in the butt sometimes to get me moving (It's just a figure of speech ) It's harder to sustain your motivation when you're not seeing results from your efforts.

But heck, i keep telling myself, if I want instant results, I'll just stick to my job (or find an online job), since that would give me guaranteed pay-outs. But that is still trading my time for money, which is actually what I'm trying to get out of.

There are different things that motivate me. One thing that always seems to motivate me is being encouraged by someone. If I feel valued, then I want to continue to give the project my best effort. It makes me feel appreciated and that always pushes me to try to get better. I'm also motivated by having people around me that I can trust to bounce ideas off of. If someone will listen and provide feedback I'm able to implement the results of the conversations we have.
