Lazy to Successful overnight

Do you know anyone who was a lazy person who suddenly got things together and became successful? In my opinion the successful people seem to be those that have a lot of self discipline even before they started a business. Just wondering???

I don't believe anyone can change overnight. People can change, but it takes time, effort and self-control. They must want to change strongly enough to overcome their past behavior and experience. I agree it takes self-discipline to become successful, as well as hardwork and the desire to reach the ultimate goal.

I agree with you, a person must have the will to change and work at it to be successful. Those who have made it, did not just wake up one day and became who they are, they planned and worked consistently towards their goals.

Yuck! If I believed this I wouldn't get out of bed in the morning.

      Change happens in an instant.

Take a lonely person for example. They don't think "I'm tired of being lonely. In 7 months from now I'm going to go on a date".

No. They decide they're not going to let life pass them by for another minute. They get up, get dressed, and go out to where people are.

That's just an analogy, but it illustrates my point.

We're entrepreneurs here right? Did any of you get excited and create your business so in 5 or 10 years it could make you money? Doubt it.

Being a successful person is not that much easy. It requires lots of hard work and then also some gets disappointment. We must stick to these lines:
"There is no shortcut to success and one have to do his best in order to be successful".

No! That doesn't mean that it isn't possible though but in my experience I've never encountered it & doubt I will!

There is no permanent in this world even behavior and attitude change. A lazy person may change if there is someone or somebody motivates him or any situations that may change his perspective and insights in life.

I know that I used to be a procrastinator and one day I just made up my mind that laziness wasn't going to be a part of my life anymore. It wasn't easy but I no longer drag myself to get things done. It took effort on my part.

hard work is the backbone of success. if you read the profile of the very successful people today, there was a point when they delved into their work as if no other thing matters to them. Yes! they may have relaxed a little bit now but there was that period of hard work.

Ummm, can definitely happen. Us humans are quite resilient. Not sure if I would count on it too much though. However, people who hit hard times in life, will many times bounce back with a vengeance & ambition. That's when they become successful.

I don't think that change just happens. After enugh time of nothing working or happening, eventually they could get fed up and want to do something. That change isn't overnight though.

Once they finally get the ball rolling they'll see something happen, whether success or failure. Depends what they do next to see if they ultimately become a success.

I know of one individual who is very talented yet very lazy and he is playing in the NHL right now. If he wasn't so lazy, he might be a superstar, but I don't think he will ever change.

Wait. Your friend is playing in the NHL and somehow that's still not enough

Your friend is a winner in every sense of the word. He's getting paid to do the thing that he loves and he did it effortlessly. That, my friend, is the true definition of success.

I really don't think so. Turning from lazy to successful is pretty much like ANY other change in oneself that a person wants to incorporate.

Whenever a change happens in our lives, our mind needs time in order to adapt with the new situation. Earlier that person was lazy - that's just how his mindset was, of procrastinating, avoiding work, etc. There's no magic pill that he can take that'll turn him into a devoted workaholic - there simply isn't (well, not right now. It's interesting to think that Psychologists might develop a solution to that in a future far away from now, but anyway , at the present moment - I highly doubt it).

However, if some particular event happens that makes a lazy person feel VERY determined, even.. he might be able to work in a dedicated manner for a bit, but after few days again, he'll probably procrastinate some work here and there - means he hasn't fully gotten rid of his laziness, and completely getting rid of laziness DOES take some time. One has to constantly keep reminding themselves that they have to stop being lazy, and they have to DO something about it. It takes a lot of time and effort to reach the near-perfect stage.

Oh crap! That reminds me, I need to stop procrastinating and get to work. Blehh.

        One more thing:

Interesting point of view. Here's what I think about it:

Creating a business is a lot different than changing your mindset. Going on a date is a lot different than changing your mindset, as well. Agreed - sense of entrepreneurship and being a lonely-kind person means their mindset is like that, but in your examples, you're considering a typical common man. If a person is a total loner, and decides to go on a date - yes, that's a change. Actually, I'd rather say it's the INITIATION of trying to change. OK, well, if a person is a total loner, and he decides to go on a date, he won't be confident in the beginning. It's not like he can turn himself into a guy who loves social gatherings, parties and dates overnight. If he's going on a date, he's simply beginning trying to change his mindset. And in this example (of laziness), we're considering a MAJOR change in the mindset - from a procrastinator to a person with no laziness and a hard-worker. If he's starting work, it's the first step to change. He isn't a completely different person right next morning.

Anyway, from your post, I can tell that your point of view is different. You're considering "change" in literal sense. Of course - going on a date means there's a "change" brought in his day. We're not talking about such changes in this thread, we're talking about changes of how one perceives things - how one's inner self thinks and acts.

After taking care of a terminally ill husband for five years, I was emotionally drained and it took a while to get back into the "work" mode. I don't think many of us are "lazy," but simply tired or overloaded.
A good motivator is paying the bills and that's what got me back on track! There were often times when I thought I was being lazy, but now I realize that I just wasn't ready to dive back in to working hard on a daily basis.
It's true that hard work is the only way to be successful, but sometimes we have to work up to that point.
          Good luck!

Many of my college friends are like that.. so lazy but once something hit them hard.. they get up and connect all the dots together.. focus.. break bad habits and became pretty successful. Self discipline and focus is huge!

Mindful people are normally Lazy because most of the times their mind is cooking some thing... Every success starts from cooking an idea... Then Implement it on ground.

Without implementing on ground no idea can be successful... so I can't accept, lazy one can succeed...

When it comes to self-discipline, I don't know if that can be taught. Most people have a certain work ethic that follows them through life. Their philosophy is to be consistent, and eventually it will happen.

Even so called "overnight successes" may have worked on their craft for years before they were discovered or hit the jackpot.

So, I think consistency and self-discipline are extremely important.
