My view is "luck" only knocked on the door of those who are ready! To get ready, hardwork and effort come into picture!

So, luck alone doesn't work in IM as it's not a lottery!

    Cheers! Keep going...

I disagree with the end-observation but agree with the basicc philosophy.

In my opinion, the smarter you work (not necessarily harder) the luckier you get.

      Maybe that's just me ...

      ^^ This.

I think one can create just the right circumstances which will allow them to be 'lucky' with what they do. However, those circumstances are created with with hard work, proper planning, dedication and perseverance. Timing plays a key role in it also.

So, if you're doing all that, can you still call it "luck"?

I do agree that a little bit of 'luck', combined with the above-mentioned ingredients, never hurts at all.

      exactly :-)

I don't know if you ever looked at documentary the Secret, I am strong believer that we attract things.

So if you have strong feeling that you will fail, you probably will, and someone will say, just my bad luck...but if you strongly believe that you will succeed and actually take action to do it, and with you whole body and mind believe that you can succeed, you will succeed.

Some might say, they got lucky, but my opinion, luck had nothing to do with it :-)

Do you think Darren Rowse from problogger just built his blog, got lucky, and people suddenly came?

No, it took a lot of hard work. They obtained "luck" by working hard. I think the word is just a synonym for "hard work." BUT, there is such a thing as luck. For instance, Paris Hilton, I mean c'mon?

Anyway, just something I've been thinking of lately.

What do you think of the word?
I doubt that Bill Gates was "lucky" he worked his a$$ of to get where he wanted to be.

Lucky would be buying that lottery ticket and expecting to win. If you do win that was lucky.

Luck is the chance of happening without your control. IM is no game of chance. It is not a roulette game. Some associate luck with success which I believe is not the case. Bill Gates is not successful because he was lucky. He has determination and never stopped following his dreams. Failure is also part of the success formula.
Sometimes people use the word luck just as an excuse to stop trying further.

Luck is not part of my vocabulary. I have objectives, I have a plan and I am taking action to achieve my objectives.

Luck comes to those that work for it and want it.

You want $100,000? You can have it, you just have to work for it. That work will create opportunities that may be seen as "luck" to people. Want to meet your favorite celebrity? You can have that too, same process.

You've got to want it first.
Then you've got to be willing to work for it.
    Until you get it.

Luck has a lot of different definitions, but I think the best one I heard is when preparation meets opportunity. And if you consider Paris Hilton lucky, you might want to look into your definitions again. Her life seems miserable.

Most of the successful people worked really hard and smart to become successful. Then, since they were successful, more opportunities opened simply because of their status, I remember one motivational speaker.. ? Robins say that more people offered to buy him lunch when he became famous which means that when he was not successful no one wanted to be associated with him.........I think you must be prepared to be lucky and that comes with perseverance and hard work

I do not really believe in "luck", I believe more in "good choices" or "bad choices".
I know that in my lifetime, I made some bad choices (when I was younger of course ) and that had a direct affect on my "luck".
So I think it is all about choices.
"Today I chose to promote my website" or "today I chose to blow off work and play World of Warcraft" that choice will directly affect how successful your business is, so i say it's all about "choices" instead of raw "luck".
    But that's just my experience

Of course - LUCK does exist.
In that - not everyone starts from the same point (talent, resources)...
And not everyone gets the same opportunities.

But the thing is - LUCK isn't the only factor to success.

In many cases, having talent up-front works against you. Because you don't build up the emotional muscle, the perseverance, to get through difficult times.

And in many cases, people who consider themselves unlucky are that way because:
      - They don't have the open, positive mindset to see opportunities, and
      - They don't take enough action to MAKE opportunities (make luck)

We have an impact on how much luck we have - based on the actions we take.

Taking relentless action toward our goal, eventually opens up more LUCK

Helping others even when they can't help us back... eventually opens up more LUCK

Let's go forth and make our own good fortune

By acting like we're already lucky.

      GOOD LUCK!

      Bolaji.

Luck is like superstition, based around human need to find order and cause out of random events.

Based on the last two years of my life some might call me unlucky, but I don't. Bad things happen, good things happen, it's just life.

Someone who is "lucky" has likely just worked hard to be in the right place at the right time to see an opportunity, and in the right, positive mindset to recognize it for what it is.

I totally fall in line with the statement that suggests that people don't succeed due to luck, but hard work. The basis of my statement will be explained as follows.

Some people consider that others are more fortunate than themselves. They do not take into account the various factors that lead to others success. They do not understand the sufferings of their neighbors. They only believe in their misfortune. The evidence, however has shown that just hard work can make you reach success. For example: nobody can graduate from college without studying hard. Besides, nobody can run a successful business without working hard. Therefore, success has no correlation with luck, but hard work.

Although some people are luckier than others, the reality is that people’s success is mainly based on effort. Therefore, those people who only count on luck to accomplish their dreams will face harsh reality and drive to despair. For instance, there are individuals who like gambling. They want to make easy money by relying on their luck. Truth be told, they almost never win. What they obtain is merely more debts.

Luck can only play a little positive role, but effort has the lead role in achieving your goals. You can trust in luck some times , but not every single day. Hence, it is of atmost importance for you to make an effort on a regular basis, in order to make your dreams come true.

In a nutshell, success is entitled to those people who are willing to work extremely hard to make their dreams come true. You should always remember the saying “no pain, no gain”

Luck, its something that comes along as a result of ones perseverance and hard work I guess. Its like you got lucky finding a job that you like or finding and investment business that brings in great ROI's. You have to think though that you may got lucky with these but you would not have found them in the first place if you were not able to pass the interview or understand the business and how to make it work.

So I guess luck is something that we get out of hard work.

    Just my two cents

By suggesting luck it implies chance. By being creative and believing in yourself you work down a channel where more chances will appear. Those that succeed follow through with their actions and never give in. This creates opportunities that some will look on as lucky.

    Luck is bull****.

When you work hard and you focus on your goal, your subconscious and RAS will naturally make opportunities "stand out" in your world. That's how "luck" happens. It's all in the mind. Tens of thousands of opportunities you would've considered yourself "lucky" for discovering it have already slipped by. Everyone's blind to it, that's all.

...and even the smartest methods require hard work to make it work.

BTW why are you guys even debating about this again? If luck was the winner of this discussion you guys plan to sit back and relax?

Luck is the the only real measure of how smart you're.

Every person has intelligence to some degree and every person has unique talents.

Intelligence is expressed by working hard on your talents and the things you're passionate about.

Don't ever fall into the trap of believing that you're unlucky because you don't deserve any better. That's a limiting belief and should be deleted from your mindset vocabulary.

Use people who are lucky as an example for success. Find out why they are luck and why you're not.

If you want to become lucky, the best thing you can do is to study lucky people.

So just go ahead and do it.
