Taking Baby Steps vs Leap of Faith

Both have been included in success stories throughout history. But in your opinion, when is the proper time to take baby steps and the proper time to take a leap of faith.

Note: An example would make it more clear.

Take baby steps when you KNOW those will work and a leap of faith won't.

Take a leap of faith when you KNOW that that will work and you KNOW that baby steps won't.

If you take a leap of faith - surely you would need to have a strong belief in what you are doing first. Otherwise you are going to come up against strong obstacles. AND if you had that belief in the first place - that would possibly eradicate the need for baby steps.

Personally I feel that faith gives us the enormous amount of power to take required steps, move forward with confidence and help us to remain persistent and gives courage to face all difficulties. So leap of faith is more important.

To give an example suppose that a person have a dream to start some business but the circumstances are not in his favor and even his friends are telling him that it won't work, drop the idea. In this cases there are chances that will not take the required steps and might drop the idea too. On the other hand if he have faith in his dream, faith in himself, in his creator than he might take the leap of faith landing in the land of opportunities that was not visible to anyone before.

Baby steps have their own importance but in that case most of the time if faced with hurdles people tend to abandon their dreams.

I guess there is no specific model answer for this! A lot of time, you need to follow your heart or your gut feeling!

    Cheers!

When we are in a position to figure out the method which truly works, whatever it takes(baby steps or leap of faith) to get the work done will help.

Baby steps should be used to test the waters,
then you have to take the leap.

The first leap of faith is the first step of action towards your desire. All success achieved is done step at a time. The last leap of faith is the final follow through for obtaining that desire into your life. People have a fear of following through which is why too many give up. Faith is something that should endure the entire process. The entire process should be done step at a time. The only leaps you will make are the first and the last. The ones to get you started and finish what you've started.

Baby steps lead to a leap of faith.

Make the wrong decision and if you take a leap of faith, you end up being reduced to baby steps and it will not be your choice !!

BBryanB hit it right on the head. I like to think Baby Steps lead to a bigger action later on, in this case a leap of faith. Personally I'd rather take Baby steps as it covers ground more easily.

See, baby steps is the basics. When you are new to something it's always necessary to learn the basics. Once you are done with the basics, and the part comes where you have to prove yourself. It's then when you take a leap of faith.

    In my opinion,

Taking a leap of faith is basically if you quit your job and put all of your effort into the internet marketing game

Baby steps is gradually progressing with internet marketing while still being employed by a full time job

The answer lies in the beginning because they both lie in the beginning. Begin with an end in mind. Have a destination, then go about the boring, painstaking process of drawing up a detailed plan of each individual step you will take to accomplish your objective. Then implement it!

Examples? Microsoft, Budweiser, Apple, American Idol, Nintendo ... etc.

These enterprises are not accidents. They had a plan and when the plan reached a certain point, they took the proverbial "leap of faith" cause they knew the odds favored them as they had executed their original plan.

  • I would never take a "Baby Step" My thinking is that I should always take the next appropriate step. "Leaps of Faith" are good if there is no plan.

A leap of faith can be enormously powerful - if it is grounded in who you really are. If the leap is based on anything lower than that then it will most likely fail. If it is into something that you know a lot about and love and it is who you are more than anything else, then it is worth doing no matter what happens with it.
I took a leap of faith over 20 years ago that changed my life radically. Didn't make "everything easy" and I should have kept on going-with-the-flow at the time, but still it was worth it, worth it, worth it. Only you will know the answer.
