The #1 Barrier to Internet Marketing Success Is...
Is it not having a list?
Not building your own product?
Not mastering traffic generation?
A lack of money? or resources?
Not having the right connections?
Not finding the winning strategy? The magic button? The secret the gurus are keeping from you?
NO.
The #1 barrier to Internet Marketing success is -
LACK OF EXECUTION.
I'm not talking about GETTING IT DONE, once.
I'm talking about a CULTURE of GETTING IT DONE.
Getting it done, on a consistent basis.
In particular - finding the perseverance to move forward when roadblocks and disappointments loom...
When failure and public humiliation snap at your heels...
When disappointment and even despair threaten.
Finding a way to KEEP MOVING FORWARD
and to stay focused
Is invaluable.
I've learned this from my own Internet Marketing journey over the years...
And seen it with many friends and peers all over the Net.
The easiest thing when we find a hot new strategy, try it out, and hit a roadblock, or a failpoint, is to throw in the towel.
We either write off that strategy..
Or, even worse, we write off ourselves.
But the dirty little secret is that the most successful people don't succeed a higher percentage of the time than we do.
They just have more swings at the ball.
And when they fail, which is often, they study and tweak (rather than switch sports, or retire.)
So many of the success stories we admire, in any industry (not just I.M.) are folks who experienced devastating failure.
Do you know the Walt Disney story? His first big cartoon character was a rabbit named Oswald. That was stolen from him at the height of its success.
What about Colonel Sanders, of Kentucky Fried Chicken? In his mid-60s.
He was turned over ONE THOUSAND TIMES, before someone finally gave his chicken recipe a shot.
1,000 times failing at the same project... with the same overall strategy.
Crazy.
And forget about Thomas Edison. Over TEN THOUSAND FAILED EXPERIMENTS... on his path to becoming the most celebrated inventor in the world.
Kinda puts our own challenges on this Internet Marketing journey, in perspective.
I know I've experienced more failure than I would CHOOSE to experience... ha ha!
But each time it happens, I can choose to grow from the experience, or become deflated by it.
I won't lie - the deflation still happens...
But less so than it did at the beginning of my journey.
WHAT PREVENTS US FROM EXECUTING CONSISTENTLY?
FOR ME, IT WAS PROCRASTINATION.
I struggled with procrastination for many years.
The fear of failure would often cripple me.
I loved the beginning part of projects. So starting was never a problem for me.
But getting a project across the finish line definitely was. Too often, I would put a project on the backburner when I hit a roadblock that I couldn't figure out.
Eventually, I decided to focus on figuring out how to solve my problem.
These days, I'm doing a LOT BETTER with consistent execution.
I've learned (the hard way... ha ha!) that:
-There's no magic strategy that will get me to success...
-There's no short cut that will get me to success...
GETTING IT DONE is the KILLER APP
and PROCRASTINATION is often it's biggest barrier.
I'd love to hear your take on what your biggest barrier to success on your journey is.
Thanks.
Bolaji.
