I like this fortune cookie

I've been keeping future cookie sayings in my wallet for a couple years now. I just pulled this one out the other day.

" Nothing costs so little, yet goes so far as courtesy "

I like to think this way when it comes to business. Things go smoother when I treat all parties ( whether customers or partners ) courteously. Having a mutual exchange of value is far superior to a lop-sided deal.

What are your thoughts?

That is something that many people lack these days. If you hold the door for someone too many times they don't even say thank you, and it's not just the kids either!

Courtesy is something we should all practice, even if the other person is rud; because in the end it is US that we are imporving upon.

I like your perspective on this. I agree. Even though it may seem difficult to keep doing it, it's well worth it. It's a great move in personal development.

Over the years I did a considerable amount of customer interaction in various jobs from mall retail to Fortune 500 technical and pre-sales support. I once had a coworker tell me they couldn't believe I could be calm and collected in the face of an angry, ranting customer.

I figured out long ago that someone in that situation isn't mad at you, they're mad at the situation. Since yelling at a crashed computer isn't helpful, they yell at you. It's never personal. Being helpful and courteous is the quickest path to getting them fixed and, honestly, out of your hair. In a sales perspective you've left them satisfied vs "That guy was a jerk."

The fortune on my desk says "A golden egg of opportunity falls into your lap this month." It hasn't in the 3 months that slip of paper has sat there, but I'm hoping someday it'll be right. A stopped clock is right twice a day.

Of course, the fortune from last night reads "If you tempt a squirrel with a nut, be prepared to be bitten."

Very true, unless you offer some strong value to other without taking into mind that he or she should return you promptly, you can't expect a two way business.

We will have to learn to give first before taking from others.

    I love fortune cookies!

I've gotten some good one over the years, but none that really stand out to me. A hilarious one used on TV was:

"Help! I'm trapped in a fortune cookie factory!"
