Living In Parents Garage Living The Dream!

Moved back home with the parents and living out my dream of starting something big. I have no costs and I have unlimited time to spend on creating something that will make me money.

I have sacraficed everything that I had and sold most of my belongings and moved out of the city I loved, to do what felt right. I knew that in order to make it, I needed to work 10-12 hour days and maybe more in order to succeed.

I am on my way and I have no other options then to succeed. Sooner or later something will work out for me. I am so lucky to have parents that believe in me and willing to let me live for free. I know that not so many of you out there are as lucky.

Sacrafice whatever you can and sooner or later things will work out for you if you believe and if you invest as much time and energy that you truly can invest. I haven't made it yet, but I know it will come with time and patience. I have only been doing this for a year so far and haven't made one single dollar, but I have learned so much.

Money comes and goes. WHat you learn will stay with you forever...

I also live with my parents! They rock! In fact I never left home

Youre lucky to have parents that support you like that, my parents always told me that I could live with them, for as long as I needed or wanted. So I took them up on the offer.

The amount of money you save - and put back into your businesses - is an incredible advantage.

    No rent.
    Electricity.
    Gas.
    Etc
    Etc

...and meals cooked by Mom cant be beat!

Good luck with everything. Hope you get to your goals.

That is awesome! Ya home cooked meals by mom can't be beat.

It was just so hard trying to work just to pay rent and bills. All that time could be going into my businesses. It is rediculous how much money you can save. My business partner and I both live with my mom and the thousands of dollars a month we are saving is priceless when starting your own business.

Have you been seeing success yet?

Yeah I am seeing some success. The first year not much, but I am up to around $1,500 a month now.

One thing I do run into though is finding myself slacking a bit. Because I am at home, I dont really HAVE to do anything, and so once in a while I find myself watching tv when I shouldnt

Thats the only thing you might run into, at least I did, and still do.

And I agree with everyone, would be cool if you kept this going as a little journal. Would be awesome.

I ended up doing something similar... living with my husband's grandparents and it really gives me a lot of time to focus on my business. Too bad I'm just starting out and they are changing their mind about letting us stay there. I'm going to miss having all of the time I could ever need to work.

This thread reminds me of myself! Just as tmoboy said, "keep this thread updated as a journal". If you have had your own blog, update it as well. It helps to make you money too! See if this helps. =)

Update everything in WF or your blog(if you have one). Update your story in the online world. For example, how you get to know about IM, how you find yourself getting more closer to your goals, how you make your first income and so forth. This kind of real life story will help inspire a lot of people who are still don't know how to start their IM journey.

Oh well, you might ask me is this even related to the "IT HELPS TO MAKE YOU MONEY TOO"?

yes of course it does! By the time you see results in online work, you can create a step by step guide product that teaches whoever is new to the online world. This actually will catch the eyeballs of many beginners who doesn't know how to start their work online.

It's just a little idea of mine. Hope it helps! It's a good thing that you moved back home with your parents for this moment, because it helps to save you a lot of unnecessary costs.

Cheers! All the best and hope you get to your goals real soon! =)

Alistair- Thanks a lot for the encouragement. I think updating a journal would be a great way to encourage others that anything is possible.

As of right now, I have turned my living room into a total office. Two large desks for my business partner and I, two computers, and 4 monitors.

I really want to work as many hours as I can in a day. I will work 16 hours a day if I have to. The question I have for you all is how many hours do you work productively? Would you suggest working a certain hours or just work as much as you can?

Thanks Andrew. The distractions are very few since I live at home where I really can't stand. My motivation is to get out of here as fast I can! I figure that since I can't stand to live back with my parents, this should be the drive I need to really create something that can get my off my feet.

My whole mindset is completely about finding a way to make money to get out of here. I mean its not all that bad but I am 25 living with my mom

Sometimes you just know when something is right. I knew this felt right and I knew it was the best option for me in order to succeed. I know 100 percent that I will not leave this place until I have lived out my dream of being an entrepreneur. You wouldnt believe how many people doubted me and put me down for my dream. I just can't wait to show them all how wrong they were!

I don't think there's anything with living at home. The reality is that times are changing and a lot of people, proffesionals are being forced to come back home to get their finances back in check. What's funny is that in the american culture we have the stigma that if your living at home past 18, or 21 there's something wrong with you. In reality we are the only country were we are leaving home so young.
U.S. census data for the year 2000 showed that more than 25% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 34 were living with their parents. For those aged 18 to 24, the number is 56% of men and 43% of women. Surveys in the United Kingdom and Japan suggest a similar situation in those countries. Now that was in 2,000 just imagine how it is now with this economy.
My ex who got divorced to this guy who was 40 and was forced to go back home because of all his debt. Things are changing. I make 4,300 a month due to unemployment benefits and gi bill benifits, but you know what i rather save my money and invest it then to have my own place to keep up with the status quo. I am saving so much money and growing a a business online that i know will benefit me for years to come. I've owned a home and have lived out on my own since i was 18, supported my wife and kids, her brother and sister as well, due to some family issues they were having. And honestly i have not been able to save like this in years. I'm so much more stress free. I still pay rent and help out but i not nearly as much as living out on my own. I'm focusing a 100% on making this work. Just keep focused on your goal, and you'll get there.

Well its an advantage because I can put every single dime I make back into the business. Obviously it sucks. I am 25 and have lived on my own for years. I dont enjoy it but sometimes you have to sacrifice in order to succeed. My options were very limited since I told myself that I would not work a 9-5.

Why work a 9-5 to make money to pay rent when those 8 hours could go straight into the business?

Building an e-commerce site drop shipping products. Have already done one e-commerce site and making some sales but about $20,000 in debt so got a long way to go with that one Also getting involved in a few membership sites.

The plan is to make enough money with the e-commerce site each month to help pay for the other ventures since the cost of the e-commerce site will be very low.

If anyone has some ideas or suggestions I would love to hear from ya!

You are welcome SPC! It's great to hear that you are already on the move! Well, IMO, the front part is always the hardest way. So, I would suggest that work as much as you can whereas you also have to take care of your health. Do not overdo it. Since you also have the advantage of having a partner working with you, you can also discuss about the shift with him. Maybe you work in the morning and he work at night. Or start working together at the same time, if either one of you is tired go have some rest while the other continue working. Then get back to work once you get enough of rest, so the one who is working there can replace you and go get some rest.

Once again I want to remind you, do not overdo it. Do take good care of your health my friend(and also your partner).

I like your idea!! Because I'm one of the guy who thinks the way like you do too!! I really would not like to work a 9-5 and waste that 8 hours of time to work for others. I hate to be ordered by someone to work on a thing(especially when you have to listen to what your BOSS order you to do). I rejected an offer from my dad who wants me to help him in his business. On top of that, I joined my brother to work online. That is when I started to enjoy what I am doing!

Cheers my friend! Have a great day and all the best!

I lived with my parents for a few years while I was in my late twenties. It really helped me build a foundation to what we are doing now. So parents are a great resource to have in your corner. Just don't let the free rent eventually turn you lazy!

Mattlaclear- I definitely see how one could become super lazy. Having mom cook for you and clean the dishes, etc. can really make you just lounge around. Its one of those things that also probably depend on that type of person. For me, just working for someone else 9-5 to just pay rent was one of those things that just ate me up inside. I also hated the feeling that I was living at home with my mom. I mean how could I ever tell a girl I met that I lived at home and she was not allowed over haha.

I think some people would get lazy and take advantage of their situation. I look at it as something that should not be taken advantage of and something that should be embraced. I have all day to work on my business and I am lucky to have given this opportunity which I am sure many others would die for. I would feel guilty lounging around. The decision was made to move home and I told myself that I would work as hard as I could to move out and this was only a temporary thing to get my Internet Marketing career started.

Self discipline is a must and obviously it is easier said then done but I know what is destined of me

Wow, I thought I was the only one doing this. I'm 26 and am still living at home, although I'm not living free (have lots of debt and still try to cover my food costs). As such, I still work part time to cover expenses. At least I'm not paying rent.

Just a quick question-how do you stay focused? I've found that, while I do get to live cheaply here, it's also easy to get distracted and waste time.

After all, I can technically stay as long as I want (my parents would never kick me out). Combine that with the fact that nobody's checking in on me, and I find myself occasionally wasting time browsing youtube and generally goofing off when I should be working.

I've been thinking about joining some sort of accountability group to report my daily progress to others, but don't have enough money right now. Any recommendations on staying productive?

Really, I think it comes down to self-discipline. Know what you want out of living at home and make sure you stay focused on your goals. I know that I do not want to live here for long. It isnt all that bad but I know I want to move out as soon as I can afford it. My motivation to move out is a big reason to stay focused. Also, I have turned my living room strait into an office. WHen I am in the office I am only focused on important business decisions. I am not there to fool around or waste time. Make sure you spend most of your day in the office. Also, make sure to reward yourself for the hard work you put in throughout the day. Say to yourself, " I will reward myself with an hour of TV if I work 5 hours strait productively." That way you wont feel bad about watching TV and your motivated to be productive.

Its definitely hard and I think it really comes down to what motivates you and self-discipline. If you can't stay motivated and find yourself becoming distracted maybe you need to work for someone and be told what to do. After all, being an entrepreneur isn't easy. Otherwise everyone would be doing it.

What you're doing is a very good choice in my honest opinion! I wish I could trade the 9 hours a day I spend at work to work on IM - that would exponentially increase my productivity! I am not in the situation to move back with my parents since I have a fiancee and we live together right now.

Work hard and don't get distracted and you will be well off!

I lived with my dad when I started too, it's definitely really helpful not worrying about paying rent or anything like that. I do have to say you need a lot of self-discipline and a huge drive to succeed and get out of your parents house.
Some people can do it and stay focused, others will struggle a lot not having someone to keep them accountable.

Just remember to keep focused on your goal everyday and only stop working to take breaks when you really really need to( as in if you keep working yourll be making backward progress instead of forward progress)

And check regularly what is working and what is not so you're not just moving around in circles. Best of luck to you!

That is a short but a pretty awesome story bro. I'd appreciate if you create another thread in more detail so I could learn more about your situation because I'm kinda sorta in the same boat as you.

      Hi SPC,

l can totally relate to what you are going through.

I was living by myself, and spent the last 2 years there out of 7, working very hard on my website.

Because in Australia the rent was going from bad to worse, and Social Security was going from bad to worse, l knew that the only option apart from getting a full time job, was to move in with my Mother, and become successful online there?

That was one and a half years ago, and l have learned a lot, but no real success yet.

The site that l am still working on, but only rarely at the moment, is showing great promise with adsense. Should match or exceed a full wage eventually.

So l would suggest, looking into 100K Blueprint, (WSO). It seems like a real way to make real money, probably because it would take effort to set up then a few months minimum to see real results.

I only have to write an article or two whenever l go out with my Laptop, post it here and there, and wait. Not that hard, apart from setting up the site.

But the important thing is that if your other idea doesn't work out, you have a backup plan!

That is the thing about the internet it takes considerable effort and time for minimal results, so a backup plan, which takes little effort, but builds up over time is worthwhile.

Just like you guys and gals, l want to move out asap, but the more you rush this the more you will blow serious money and get nowhere apart from learning another tough lesson.

Far better to build a successful business that doesn't have a ceiling than to work hard for something that does!

I also have to admit that l am a lot older than 25, (over 40) but regardless of how many friends l lose or how much my Mother gets into me about this online thing, (she is Ok, with it at the moment) and how much my brother thinks that it is probably a waste of time, giving up is non-existent for me.

I am building a site that will make me, a few hundred per month to a few thousand. As well as a few other PPC products that l should be able to get a few hundred out of a month, and eventually a product that l will create, which will hopefully hit the jackpot. Time will tell.

There are a lot of opportunities on Fiverr.com, to make some money and create money, so it would pay to look into that one also.

      Good luck..

      Shane

Hey Shane. No real success yet? Sometimes we get lucky early off and get success and other times it takes time. I have been at it for almost a year and I too have no success. Although I haven't earned any money online yet I have learned so much and I know what it takes to really make it online. I have made sales but I am so far in debt that I need to make much much more to make up my debt.

Just as in any business, an online business really takes a dedication. Living with mom and not having to deal with stress of money is my way of dedicating my entire life to becoming successful online. The work I can put in 6 months, could be equivalent to a year and a half of working on it part time.

As of the moment I am getting rolling and I just recently sold all my surfboards, my boat, and most of my other belongings to raise money for my ventures. I will have enough money to see through at least 3-4 ventures which I feel is a good enough chance to see at least 1 succeed.

Good luck, would love to hear what your situation is.

Hey Dwayne. I will create another thread and tell you all when I do which fully outlines my situation and keep everyone updates.

I am glad to see others out there in the same boat? How is your situation? Are you living out your dream?

I love to see the struggles that we encounter because each struggle is an experience and each experience is a chance to gain wisdom. This is why I think business and making money is one of those things that you have to be good at learning. Learning from experiences and moving on. The experiences that we learn in everyday life can be applied to our our own business in many ways.

I'm kinda in the same shoes as you, recently have just started putting in 12 hours+ a day and learning so much. Haven't made a dollar just yet but what what I'm doing feels really right and I will be sure to keep doing until those results come.

Living at home with parents does have great benefits, and will save you a lot of money. After having moved out and living independently for about 2 years, I ended back home with the parents, because long story short, situation got critical and I had to cut back all expenses which was mostly rent, food, and petrol.

I understand that some people out there aren't as lucky and parents make them pay for rent and stuff. But not mine and I'm happy to say I'm saving quite a bit this way

Just wanna encourage everyone out there to just work with what you got and be sure to keep taking action.

And finally thanks for your inspirational post

          Hi again SPC,

unfortunately l am not living here rent free, and have to put in a few hundred per month, but that still gives me a few hundred now and then, for online business.

At the moment l am doing a business course, which is government funded and should give me one year of social security equivalent income, where l can earn up to 3 times that, without any reductions. It is great to do a budget, cash-flow projections, etc on your business ideas, to see how to really get it to cough up. I will officially start this in a month, the business.

But if for some reason the products, don't make what l expect them to, and the 3 monthly review, puts the funding on shaky ground, that's where the backup plan comes in.

At the moment l am churning out articles when l can, (go to EZA, home and family-board games) and you will come across my articles.

I have 3 highly profitable pages on my site that have been indexed, but not listed yet. I expect with the weight of articles, posts, etc on these pages that it should reach the top of the SERP results fairly quickly.

Which should be in a week or two?

At worst it should make me $700 per month, 1% adsense conversion rate, although my stats seem to show a rate of 3.5%. So three and a half, $700....

But as said before this is an emergency backup plan if my other ideas fall in a heap, and if it works out l will obviously start building sites to build on this income and create sites that l can sell.

A $500 dollar a month adsense site can be sold for $10,000 or more!

I have been at this for about three and a half years, and l have heard that Amit - PPC Classroom, (affiliate millionaire) took 4 years to start making serious money from it, so as you were saying it may take a few months, but could also take years?

          Shane

Here is the site that l spent years of my life working on, and the interesting thing about this site is, the Alexia rank is 700,000, with about 85 visitors per day, although with the above pages kicking in, it should end up close to a thousand per day...

            Hey Shane
I took a look at your website. Not a bad idea at all. Are you just trying to make money off adsense? Maybe you should try an opt in and write a little ebook on inventing success or something like that. Try to gain your list of subscribers and sell them something (affiliate or your own ebook etc.) You are getting good traffic and keep aiming for more!

Keep at it and you could always try something else on the side. I am planning to work 2-3 months on my initial e-commerce site and then replicate that same site in another niche with different products. My struggle has been to remain focused at the task at hand and not try to many things at once. I am learning to see one thing through then move on to the next.

      Hi,

      yep! Been there done that.

I tried writing 3 e-books, two on toys and games, and one on Chess. The Chess one was a total failure and the other two sold so slow that it wasn't viable. I also spent months researching affiliate offers, that were a total failure and RR products with my e-books, no dice.

So...after more than 3 years of trying it all, l have dedicated the entire site to adsense. I am only making a few dollars a month at the moment, but expect that to improve considerably when the new pages get listed.

I also agree with you about info, overload. I have been at this for so long now it is getting easier to spot suss ventures from good ones. And l have been distracted by many things that didn't work out.

They usually wave their magic wands around and make blah, blah, but virtually anyone else who trys it, zilch?

A word of advise, don't sign up for anything out there if, cancelling your membership is a nightmare, odds on it wont work and cause you a lot of stress trying to get away from them. Usually mentioning that you will email their credit card processing company will get them to act, but not all.

I have tried to create a list as well, but no worthwhile results.

      Shane

P.S. l should also ad that the Frank Kern sign up is doing well, (affiliate-website-success link below) and the product converts well, eventhough there is a lack of kws available, so it isn't all gloom and doom.

Well I guess each market is very different. I guess your best bet is just to stay focused on SEO and build more traffic to your site over time, which I am sure you can do it if you stay at it. For me, I am really getting into building and replication e-commerce sites in various niches and dropshipping the products. Have you tried this yet?

I have been seeing results btw. Let me know if you would like to learn more

Yep! That is true. That's why l still put effort into the toy and game site, because it can still make great profits in adsense and because it is a tough niche to profit from, competition is scarce, and it would take years, for them to catch up with me.

If l remember correctly, drop-shipping is using a company to create a physical product and sending it to the customer? Yes, l have looked into this, and l know that offering a free product, with a postage and handling cost does do well, from what l have heard. Especially if you add another product on the thank you page.

That's what have done with the FK product with great results. So, it sounds like you should make some good progress, in the near future.

As for now, I have only been at home for almost 3 weeks and have already built one e-commerce site and working on a second.
