Are we adjusting our sails too often?

We've been through this before: One day, we get a brainwave on a certain marketing idea. We formulate a plan, finalize them before launching them to the general market.

Then, the wait - the results don't come instantaneously, after all.

After awhile, most of us give up. We think that this idea is just another "bad idea" that should be scrapped ASAP.

This is where most of us get it wrong. We never give our marketing strategies enough time to mature, enough time to reach the masses. We're too impatient, demanding results as soon as they're rolled out from the oven.

If we give our marketing strategies enough time to mature, enough exposure to the public, we may have a winner in our hands. The problem is that too many of us shelve the ideas too soon.

What do you guys think of this? Do you think you're shelving marketing ideas, or even ideas in general, without allowing them time to grow?

Note: I'll be editing this post as ideas from fellow warriors start flowing in to make it more convincing

Many of us give up too soon when we don't see the results we expected. Part of the problem is that we read the IM headlines about all this money made in this short of time by only doing this or that, and we start believing the hype. Then when it doesn't happen for us, we give up and move on to the next shiny object or outspoken so-called guru.

We need to do the research that shows us how we can best succeed, create a solid business plan, and put it into action.

Adjusting the sails is good if we find we need to, but we must follow the action plan first to make sure we really need to adjust the sails. Adjusting sails must be at the right time in the right place or we will sail off course.

Agreed - these people never realize that the problem lies with them, not the plan that they have set up. A plan might be on its way to fruition, but they chop it right off before the fruit are borne.
