What personal development strategies or techniques have changed your life?

Hi Warriors

As in internet marketing, there are a lot of techniques, theories and strategies in the self help / personal development area too.

I'd like to know what self help/personal development techniques or strategies have made the greatest difference in your life and why?

Thanks

I like many of the ideas from Anthony Robbins and Brian Tracy. I find that I can take many of their concepts and apply them to my own life. The mindshift concepts by Robbins for example are great and I really like the practical advice on time management that Tracy gives.

Yeah.. Robbins is one of my favourites as well. "The Hour Of Power" is one of the concepts that have helped me the most. I've heard about Brian Tracy, but don't really know much about him or his material. Can you recommend anything particular?

Since you are in IM I would recommend the "Psychology of Selling" to begin with.

Another really great book by a different author that I loved, was "The Practicing Mind"

And I just finished listening to Sedona method audio series, they were a bit strange, but I found them very helpful.

Meditating on your goals and success could be a wonderful step for overall success in life. You wake up and meditate on your desire for success, to persevere and reach your life objectives and goals. It's like you are reorienting yourself in different direction. Everything in your life is tied with the choices we make every passing time. For e.g. i could chose to get drunk and party or watch a television, i could also choose to workout and be fit and healthy; ultimately it is unto me to make the choices. I should make choices that is ultimately important for my life values and goals.

Thanks for your replies guys. I will definately gon and read ait more about "The Psychology of Selling".

As for meditation, I have never really tried meditating "on" anything but my breath. I visualize where I want to be almost every morning as part of the "Hour Of Power" routine, but I've never tried doing it as a meditation. Sounds like it's worth trying, and I definately agree on the importance of knowing in which direction you are going, and the importance of reminding yourself of that direction as often as possible.

I was referred to a book called "Self Discipline in Ten Days" by Theodore Bryant, which helps you deal with the issues causing procrastination. It's out of print, but available as a Google Doc somewhere. That, and some tips on time management have helped me move from info product consumer to info product maker. As for psychology of selling, all I understand is people hate to be sold, but they love to buy. And buying is an emotional decision which needs to be supported by logic. But I'm very much a newbie at this and I'm sure I'll learn a lot more as I go along.

                Great, thanks.

I found it on amazon, but It's quite pricy. I also found it as PDF. Do you know if it's in the public domain, or am I violating any laws by downloading the PDF?

I like Pareto principle (also known as the 80-20 rule) It states that, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes. It helps me to focus on what's important and what brings results.

write all the achievable tasks that has the highest possible outcome in them. What do you want from yourself? Do you want to achieve peak performnace? What steps you have to take to achieve peak performance? What is peak performance according to you? Do you want to double your business this year? What steps are necessary for it?

If you’ll ask yourself these types of questions, you’ll get some great answers about your “to do tasks.”

I learnt this thing from Frank Kern's mass control manual he sent with his mass control monthly. These tehniques work for me.

I wrote about it on my personal blog. how to boost your personal productivity

if you are really passionate about what you do, you’ll make it.

Tony Robbins is always motivating and gets me in a take action frame of mind.

I also like Tim Ferriss and his strategies for getting things done. Some of his principles I find helpful are going on "low information diets" and implementation of the Pareto Principle (80/20 rule) like someone here as already mentioned.

I recently reread the classic, "How to Win Friends and Influence People", by Dale Carnegie. What I discovered surprised me. I had read and even studied the book and ideas in it in my twenties. Now, many years later, I see that I have incorporated many if not most of the ideas presented.

What is most interesting is that it happened gradually. I initially read the book as a part of my training to overcome extreme shyness. I was afraid of people perhaps because of a very poor self image. Looking back I hadn't realized that the book and it's ideas had such a profound affect.

So to answer the question, I'd guess I have to say, if there was a strategy, that I immersed myself in the masters weather written or on audio. Apparently, some of it stuck and I'm the richer for it today.

One specific thing that has helped me actually didn't directly come from someone else, but was more like an evolution of studying many different personal development methods/people/systems.

That specific thing was learning to look internally for answers instead of externally. To question why I am getting or not getting results, and being open to the answers that come to me (even if I don't like them!). IMHO trusting your own inner guidance is a lifelong tool worth developing.

I think "Guru's" telling you their view on things is sort of like them feeding you fish - learning to trust your own guidance is like learning how to catch your own.

BUT...everyone has to start somewhere & hearing many different viewpoints rounds out one's education and can spark new ideas. (And fishing may not be for everyone )

I've been a student of human potential and personal development for more than 15 years. There are a lot of messages out there that share the same concepts from different perspectives. Even my programs are the synthesis and re-valuation of what I've learned from knowledge acquisition and practice.

I continuously revisit the classic work, "Think and Grow Rich," by Napoleon Hill. This book outlines the core concepts that most personal development speakers have spun from. He said, "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve."

I am a big fan of the late Jim Rohn, who was a mentor to Tony Robbins, He has a series called "The Art of Exceptional Living." I think it is great. One of my favorite mantras picked up from this is that "the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is a little extra"

I also always reflect on the words of Zig Ziglar. He said, "If you help enough people get what they want, you can have everything you want."

          One of the best strategies that I've been applying for personal develop is the learning of new languages. Taking on a new language can shift thought patterns and perspectives. I won't get into the ontological roots of why this is {message me if you'd like to know more}

Expanding our ability to brainstorm and think creatively always increases our capacity for achievement.

There are so many more concepts out there. The more you analyze, the more intricate you make your mind. This is key. NLP is one tool that we can learn from.

Does that answer your question, or would you like more specifics?
I know some have already made some great comments on concepts and models they use.

  • Great question!

Life changing experiences have been both personal and professional. Often, it has to do with learning lessons from what has gone wrong and dealing with the unplanned in a positive way.

In general, I draw much learning and life changing lessons from inspirational messages of many in the personal development field on various topics.

One of my favourite quotes is from Ralph Waldo Emerson "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail". Very encouraging and empowering for those who are running their own businesses or have made changes in their personal or professional lives.
