Night Owls Are More Creative, According To Study

This is actually somewhat old, but I came across it today. A study done by some Italian researchers found that people who rated themselves as "night owls" scored better on several tests designed to measure creativity, compared to those who considered themselves morning people or intermediate. You can read the full article here:

News in Science - Night owls are more creative - 13/12/2006

I can't comment for the study's accuracy since the results haven't been reproduced yet, but I definitely fall into the creative night owl category, and thinking about it, most of the artists, musicians, etc. that I know also seem to prefer being active during the late hours.

Thoughts?

Someone just forwarded this article to me today. I have to say that I have become a night owl the last few years. How does it get any better than that?

    Well, I can say this...

I have really bad insomnia, so my sleeping patterns go back and forth, but I do a lot of my work in the middle of the night. It makes thing somewhat easier for me because I don't have the distractions of my friends and family being awake at 5am so I have more time to concentrate and focus my mind on other things, so it works for me.

Hello fellow Night Owls. If you can't sleep, might as well do something productive. I've always been comfortable at night. At home, when the house is quiet and everyone else is sleeping, you sure can get a lot done ( no one bothering you).

Also, shopping at Wal-Mart is great in the middle of the night - no crowds.

I can vouch to that. Night owls like myself do tend to get thing done during the night than during the daytime.

Case in point - It is 11 PM right now (almost) where I am and I am about to finish my business plan then write some poetry.

I have always been a night owl. I seem to get a "second wind" around 10pm and am strong until 2am or so. I often am up as late as 4am if I am busy with a task.

My friend told me that people who stay up late are more creative, because he believes there is less "chatter" in the air ways, and that somehow all people are connected and night owls are free to think more creatively late at night.

While I am not endorsing that, I do find it interesting that a study showed the premise (not his explanation) to be true.

I have kids, so working late at night is about the only time the house is quite, but my 6 year old is a night owl too, so even though it is 12am on a school night, I can hear him awake in his bedroom. The doctors tell me "he simply does not require as much sleep".

From a scientific perspective, I would have no clue whether the creative thinkers are night owls or night owls are creative thinkers. One thing is pretty obvious .... there are a lot of creative night owls on the Warrior Forum.
