Work From Home - Tips To Be 120% More Productive

Working from home certainly has it's advantages we all know that.

But sometimes that wonderful freedom of working in your underwear surrounded by delivery menus, papers everywhere, things to do lists buried under other things to do list, presents a problem that needs to be addressed quickly.

My solution....

Pretend you have company coming over even if you don't!

Take that shower, brush those teeth, fix that hair, get organized and tidy up the place!

You will feel great after and be much more productive.

Hey at worse you can just go out for some air, go shopping for needful things or just enjoy your favorite book store ...the one with the great ambience inside.

Any other tips on staying productive while working from home?

    Mr Steve,

    You are absolutely correct.

Even though I work from home, I dress neatly in the morning and pretend I am in a full office building. I go into my office and only come out for a quick coffee and lunch. Then, it's straight back to it. I am hard on myself as this is the only way to really move ahead and push ourselves. When there is no other boss, we need to be seriously disciplined. The results are worth the effort!

I think one of the most important aspects to successfully working at home is to eliminate distractions and make sure you're working in a place (office, living room, bedroom, kitchen) that you can 100% focus on. The smallest distractions will take a ton away from your work.

I think I'll incorporate a few of these tips into my daily routine. But I try to leave the house around 12 or 1 in the afternoon just to get out for about an hour, and this does seem to contribute to a good frame of mind.

I am really looking forward to the day when I can work at home. One thing I would enjoy doing is getting a jump start on the day, and start working early. There is so much you can accomplish by getting an early start on the day. Then perhaps a power nap in the afternoon, and I can go until 2am if needed.

When I made the jump, my husband bought me one of those signs for my home office with the clock on it that says OPEN on one side and CLOSED on the other. I don't punch a clock, I flip a sign.. when it's reading OPEN, I'm not doing anything but working. I flip it for lunch and I have seen him flip it to CLOSED for me when I have been at it too long and that's why I love him so. Having a great support team helps. Now, I would be lying if I said I wasn't brainstorming, researching or working after hours but the "Union" I am a member of (lol) has a liberal policy on such matters! Thankful for that and grateful for everything in my life! Hope this helps!

It depends on your technique and attitude towards your work. Some just doing a big effort but still low income and the opposite.

What work can you recommend for a newbie like me for instant big cash or to everyone?

    Waiting for your reply.

I spent the last two days in my bedroom, either sat on the bed, or laying on it, with my dressing gown still on .. and my laptop literally on my lap .. till eventually my eyes needed a rest and I ventured in to the garden for some fresh air .. about 9.30 in the evening (on day 2).
Ahhhh ... product creation - don't you just love it??

I've read a number of books on time management and productivity and every one of them give you a little something you can use here and there. Recently I was going through one of Ryan Deiss' products where he talk about The Pomodoro Technique.

I had to look it up. Both my wife and I work from home and we both work on our "pomodoros" LOL. (It takes it's name from the tomato-shaped kitchen timer).

Here's the link to download the free book and forms you can print out and use daily.

      The Pomodoro Technique®

If you were looking in a breakthrough in your productivity, creativity, and concentration, I believe this is it.

Having worked from home for over 10 years, one of my personal favourites for effective working is a very simple idea.

Once at your computer, do your email, check your facebook, look at WF ...then CLOSE COMPLETELY your email and web browser. Do not re-open until end of day. This small step massively reduces distractions and helps you maintain flow.

(remember, if you break flow it can take upto 20mins to get "back into the groove", so the more distractions you can remove, the better)

Another good one is to work with your own rhythm - If you are working from home then you do NOT have to follow the 9-to-5 regime, instead you can work to a schedule that best fits for you.

You will have natural peaks and troughs in your day (and no two people are the same) so discover your rhythm and work with it. Natural high points are great for focused important work, natural lows are perfect for admin/mundane tasks.

Essentially, whether you are a night owl or an early bird, change your working day accordingly.

    Enjoy!

    Michael

I find since I started working from home that actually I look after myself better.
When I first made the decision to make my income from home I set myself a strict regime, starting and finishing set hours.
I would still shower and shave first thing before having breakfast.

Now of course, my working hours are all over the place I now start earlier and finish later.

Sounds like IM actually takes much more than just 2 hours a day i suggest daking up early and getting a good workout in followed by a healthy breakfast and shower. This sets your mind up to be focused for the entire day.

Taking a shower and preparing yourself to work the same way you would if not working from home, makes all the difference. Avoid working from your bed, dress up so that you are ready to go out should the need arise.

There are definitely challenges to working from home. I found that using the Focus Booster app (implementing the Pomodoro technique) increased my productivity by two-fold. It keeps me focused and helps me concentrate on the task at hand. focusboosterapp.com/

To stay productive while working at home, I start by taking a nice bath. I don't know, it just somehow clears my mind and gives the energy and zest to start a new day. In my own experience, I can plan better the activities for the say after taking a bath.
