Keeping up positive attitude

I've learned that it's sometimes hard to maintain a positive attitude in what we do here, especially those of us who are working alone with no co-workers.
Working in solitude gives you a nice quiet working space but when you get frustrated you don't have anyone to talk to.
I recommend working on your mind and spirit by reading self help books, and I personaly like using affirmations videos because it makes me feel stronger.
Bottom line, devote some time and energy for nurishing your brain and soul and it will impact your success.

I agree, service does wonders for our attitudes. The other day there was a woman in a wheel chair, her hands are all ceased up, she can't talk, who was motioning to me for help. She had a book that she could point at words and other pictures and things to help her communicate. So we go through the process of her communicating to me what she needed. It was a simple thing but man, did it make me feel so grateful that I can walk, talk, type, etc.

The only thing that is keeping me going at the moment is remaining positive. I don't find it a struggle to do this anymore as I have spent the past few years on positive thinking and meditation courses and was obsessed with self-help books - taking great bits of information from every one of them.

I definitely think taking time out of the daily grind and working on yourself or helping someone else really does help. It was my birthday the other day and I got hundreds of birthday wishes from people on Facebook (some very distant friends) - I decided to send a personal message to everyone who took the time to send me a message, asking them about themselves. It took 3 days but the kind messages I got back made me feel amazing - I wasn't expecting that.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice about keeping a positive attitude even when things aren't going well. I'm a stay at home all alone and I find it so easy to get really discouraged and feel like I'm doing a lousy job. So often if we all have a good night's sleep, I feel like I could conquer the world and everything makes sense. Unfortunatley, that doesn't happen very often and we're tired and I feel discouraged. Any positive feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Working from home, alone is sometimes difficult. Without interacting with others, especially in the same business can definitely lead to discouragement. I have a friend who is in IM, and we talk several times a day, sharing experiences and by the time our conversation is over, we are both so excited and encouraged we could jump out of our skin.

Maybe you can write a list of 5 reasons why you are thankful and keep it near your workspace. There are many reasons to be thankful, and don't forget the "little things." A place to live, food to eat, how great it is to be the boss, there is no corporate ladder, our earning potential has no ceiling, we can do whatever we set our mind to do.

Watching the news, the US economic and world conditions declining can certainly put a negative twist on the day. A simple solution: don't watch the news. Try to eliminate negative information, people, etc. from your life. Surround yourself with positive people (even if the people are not physically available) and you will feel the positive energy.

Have your daily list of tasks in front of you and it is a great feeling to check one off and move to the next.

You mentioned having a good night's sleep. That is extremely important. I find that I need 7-8 hours of good sleep to be able to have a highly productive day.

      Get a good night's sleep.
Wake up and greet the world with the attitude that this is going to be the best day ever!

AND THIS. If you really feel you just HAVE to know what is going on in the world, read a paper and don't do it in the beginning of the day.

IMO you really have to guard against negativity the same way you'd guard against cockroaches or mice.

It helped me to know that I don't have to go from miserable to happy clappy overnight--I can go in increments.

If you are feeling discouraged, maybe Blissedouthappytown is too much of a stretch right now. Maybe you can find a thought or two that leads you to feeling less discouraged, making a list as the other person suggested might help. Also, the simple realization that you CAN feel better helps. You choose the way you feel, the way you react to things, and how you perceive a situation. Commit to feeling better.

You might just need a break or a change of scene so that you feel refreshed when you return to work.

Work on sleep--you really rob yourself when you don't sleep, in a number of ways. Try different time management and calming techniques to make sure you get a suitable amount. You wouldn't go a week without food, try not to go a week without proper sleep.

      Great question.

Here are what has helped me:

      1. exercise (Yoga, weights, etc.) and walking outside the house
      2. social interaction in a civic or church group; phone calls with friends
      3. relaxation exercises (championed by Dr. Herbert Benson) & visualization exercises (based on NLP techniques)
      4. argue against your negative thoughts
      5. uplifting music (Rocky movie theme, Battle Hymn of the Republic)
      6. identifying/changing irrational beliefs/paradigms
      7. Tai-Chi & QiGong methods

Having a positive Attitude is indispensable on your success. You can be as positive as you wish to generally be if you'll simply take actions according to achieving your goals rather then actions that can cause anyone to see the negative emotions of worry, doubt, anger and fear. If you carry out the alternative successful people do, if you use give it your all think, to exert mental control over the problem, you'll be positive and cheerful generally. And you will reap the pros enjoyed by all successful people.

The more you devote your time into positive messages from books/videos/audios the more you will be surrounded by the postive energy. And EVEN 'toxic people' won't affect you that much. You will just smile and keep your cool, or just ignore them. Thats what I found out lately in my life. In most cases I spend time with really valuable and positive people so i dont have much trouble and keeping positive attitude etc

I love this quote that shows how important attitude is. Just want to share it with you..

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

      Body Language!

I would guess 99% of people reading this have a career where we sit at a desk for 8 (and sometimes up to 16+ hours) at a time... I am completely guilty of this too. We need those long work days sometimes to build that momentum!

But my friends, we've all heard it... "Motion creates Emotion"

It is humanly impossible to sit, staring at a computer screen, probably hunched over in a chair, with very little movement, for multiple hours; without feeling crappy by the end of the day.

As Internet Marketers and "office worker types", we absolutely need to make sure we MOVE!

My place of employment is as stuffy and corporate as they get. But I'm the guy who will high five you in the hallway or go in for the sports guy chest bump. Or anything else that a 16 year old version of myself would do...

People tend to think I'm eccentric (and probably more descriptive words), but I'm very positive for an office worker and I get a ton accomplished.. So in the end who is winning? BOOYA!

We can't be scared to use our bodies in ways that aren't so ridged and stoic...

I forgot who mentioned this recently, but I noticed that if you focus not on making money, but providing a service for others (i.e. helping others as was mentioned several times in this thread), it makes a huge difference!

In fact, it feels much lighter doesn't it?

If you're focusing on making money, the focus is on you, but if you help others by providing a service, the focus is on them. Every business it seems exist to provide good/services for their customers. And by helping them, they will gladly pay you! =)

So, what could you do RIGHT NOW to help someone?

Break down a task into its smallest chunk of activities.

Then, take action on these small chunk of activities.

As you start taking action, you build momentum.

Your being in a rut can be broken immediately by taking the smallest action to gain momentum.

Then, follow the first action with another and another...gradually building a higher and higher level of momentum.

That momentum would then feel like an unstoppable runaway train with no breaks.

The easy answer to your question might be to fake the positive attitude untill you become positive again, though I know it's not always possible. I've tried it.

But in reality it's always best to surround yourself with like-minded positive people. No matter where they are. Build relationships locally and even on the web through skype or other online messenger programmes. It's very important to talk to someone who can cheer you up when your mood is a bit off-color.

Yes I believe in the law of attraction, what we think, so we reap. However, to really make your mark in what you choose to do, I firmly believe that you need to have something compelling to keep you going in the dark times. For me it is my beautiful daughter Tanisha, and giving her a better life than the one she has now, not just materially, but also spiritually.

So find your reason that inspires you to get off your rusty dusty, and make the necessary change in your life.

    Hope this helps people.

I agree, sometimes it does get frustrating quite frankly. Many times we work hard trying to make a living and we often do it alone. The best thing for me is to do some meditation, prayer and scripture reading. These activities usually do wonders and they often times eliminate all frustration immediately.
