Addicted to Internet Marketing?

I recently saw a study that explains a lot. This is a bit weird, but it will be worth your read.

The researcher installed these levers inside the cage of some test mice. The mice were fed on two different schedules.

One group would get food every 100 times they pushed the lever. The other got food at random - food lottery!

The mice fed on schedule would just give up and go elsewhere after getting fed. The ones playing the slot machine would just keep going and going and going.

The coorelations to casinos is obvious. But, what does this say about entrepreneurs paid at -seemingly- random - - or atleast unscheduled intervals; Rather than getting a paycheck once a week.

Does it instill a sense of addictive motivation that a day jog just can't tap?

I'd love to hear what you think. :-)

I've never thought of it that way before, Dante. I suppose it would be a lot like the same thing. At least until the randomness became an every day thing. But the randomness could push someone over the edge to that place where they make money every day.

Here's a third group for you though, and I'd like your thoughts on this. What about those people who work constantly and NEVER make money. How do you explain them (besides spinning their wheels).

It is really discouraging to work very hard yet you never make money. Anyway i feel this group because i have been in such a situation.

I think we were all there when we first started, Mirenge. Just gotta do a gut check. If you are sure you want it, keep poking out there until you get it.

I recommend "The Dip" by Seth Godin. It'll really speak to the decision facing you.

This a really interesting study that your bring up, but I think that unsteady money might just be for internet marketers that are starting up like myself. So far I'm getting between $3-$15 months for the first 4 months of IM. And it's not like it's in increasing order or anything.

Right now I can say that maybe I am a little addicted to internet marketing. I just love seeing that Google Analytics graph keep going up. Maybe that's just me.

In a way, it makes life more exciting because you never know what you're going to get. Sometimes you only earn $100, and sometimes you can earn up to $20,000. It's nice that you can't predict what may happen to you. But in the end, despite earning little or high, one thing is certain... you're LEARNING a LOT!

I really like your message at the end. It's true. No matter the result, the true prize is likely what we learned. It is what we can carry with us to the future. And we can use it to earn even more in the long-term. :-)

With regards to being addictive to Internet Marketing, I say that you should take it one step at a time to avoid burn-out. It's like exercise: would you gain muscles if you did 1,000 squats today or 1,000 squats spread out for the next 6 months? Don't do it all in one day

    Intelligent observation DanteRomero!

I know of similar studies, but I have never thought of it that way. There are two sides to this:

Some people get addicted to doing the wrong thing, because one or two people succumbed.

The lucky guys get so addicted to doing the right thing, and stay on top.

So, I guess we all have to take an helicopter view of our lives once in a while, and be sure we are actually on the right path and not gambling.

I like your message at the end. I agree. It makes a big difference to take a step back and just See the battlefield -- as a whole.
