Ultimate Motivation Formula!

Hello everyone,

I've been doing some hard-core thinking lately, about how I could motivate myself to do, achieve or acquire anything I wanted... I ended up with these 4 simple steps (P.S. I would love to hear your opinions!)

1. Step - Alignment

Whenever you get an urge to do something, or to get something, you should really ask yourself:

'Is this what I really want?'

In other words, is the thing that you are wanting in alignment with your spirit, with your nature, the essence of who you are?

You'd be surprised by the number of times we wish for something and later find out we don't really want or need it at all. In fact, it is my opinion that most of the things we think we want - we don't really want…

So how do you find out what things are in alignment with your nature or spirit? Logic thinking won't get you very far… Meditation does the trick for me. I concentrate on the subject and somehow I just get a 'feel' of whether I should pursue it or not.

There might be some other techniques as well, that I'm currently not aware of. If you happen to use a different method, please post yours in the comments below!

2. Step - Vision

Once you know whether you really want something (you have determined its compatibility with your nature), it is time to get it. The second step is to use a faculty called imagination.

I'm sure most of you have read plenty of self-development books and should by now know the potential of imagination, so I won't be stressing it in too much detail.

The more clearly you can visualize what you are wanting, the more motivated you will be to get it. Not only will it induce motivation, but it will also provide you with practical means on how to proceed with your pursuit.

Imagine your life, having acquired the thing you want. What kind of impact would it have, what kind of benefits would you get? Try to be as clear as possible. Clarity is power.

'Every great achievement first started in the mind!'

3. Step – Planning

OK – Now that you know you DO want something, and you know exactly what you want (you have a clear vision of it), your motivation should already be emerging!

But… there’s still a gap that needs to be filled… that gap that pours doubt. This is because we can’t be absolutely motivated until we consciously acknowledge that we are actually capable of acquiring the thing we are wanting.

This is where the planning comes in. Take out a sheet of paper and make a detailed, step-by-step plan on how you can achieve your goal. List all your resources and try to be as specific as you can.

By this point you have a pre-determined, evaluated, envisioned and consciously planned out goal!

4. Step – Execution!

There is an important factor to define in the execution process… It’s called failure.

Many people go through all these 3 steps, but their motivation is further blocked by the fear of failure. You will never achieve the thing you are wanting until you can consciously acknowledge and understand this definition:

Failure is a BIG step forward. It is a learning experience which helps you to correct your course.

Use the previous 3 steps to build a burning desire, then execute the plan in the 3rd step with faith and persistence – and the goal will be yours.

Remember – The only way to beat fear is to face it!

Best of luck to all of you!

great stuff Zannix. everyone can use a simple method to either identify or discover your "alignment". while i like your meditation technique when refined to your own personal feelings, many who have not used that form of exercise may have difficulty when they first start and their mind moves quickly and all over the place, which casues one to doubt their feelings and thoughts.
by taking a simple inventory of your life using your time and money. where does you time/money EASILY flow? that is likely your highest "value". there are 7 areas of life, in no particular order: family, physical, financial, social, spiritual, vocational, mental. we all have a hierarchy of values (what is most important to what is least) and that was established in our childhoods through our "voids". (what we thought was missing)
i am impressed you "get it" quite well too. what somone "wants" is a fantasy, and to every fantasy. a nightmare is attached. what we LOVE, is what we put up with, as we will endure the pain we go through to attain what we love. PEAR is what i use with most folks. what you Percieve, which yields an Emotion, which produces an Action, which gives us a Result

These steps are great but you are missing the one key quality to success and further motivation which in this case is simply determination. I have met hundreds of people who believe they are determined. Most of these people don't even know what it is.

It is true determination is a consequence of motivation but it can also be the cause of motivation. The idea of persevering and then succeeding is loved by a lot of people but few people actually manage to stay determined and persevere.

Great thread! I like the way you first connect your "want" to your nature. Meditation works for me too.

I quite go with you and according to my own philosophy, it is better to develop one's ability to meditate, because it will help many things in one's life.
