How to motivate yourself to take MASSIVE action

Hey warriors,

Recently I did an interview with Anthony Tilley. He's a successful internet marketer from the UK and I asked him this question (I thought it would be great to share it here ):

Matt Poc: How do you motivate yourself to take action and be productive?

Anthony Tilley: I've got to say, Matt, I'm probably one of the laziest people you'll ever meet - OUT of work.

I can quite happily sit around doing nothing on the weekends. My wife just sort of ends up pulling her hair out with me.

But I really don't need to motivate myself to do this.

This isn't a job for me, it's a passion. I take the kids to their school in the morning, I'm at my PC until 9:30, I stay there until I pick the one up at 3:30. I then go and sort him out with tea and biscuits, etc., doing his homework, and then I'm back on until 6 o'clock, come off the PC and then I'm back on there again at 9 o'clock at night, probably until 1 o'clock or 2 o'clock on the morning because obviously, you're talking to people in the states, so you've got to work funny hours.

But I've got to say that there's no motivation needed. I really love doing this and that's the way it needs to be for you. If you want to succeed at anything in life, you've got to have the passion, whether it be Internet marketing, whether it be sports, it doesn't matter what it is.

I am certain I am going to be a millionaire within three years, but that is just a by-product of the effort that I've put in. If I don't ever make more money than I have now, I'd be happy.

I've got a nice car, I've got a nice house, I've got nice holidays, that suits me fine. But I know because I work my backside off, probably more than I actually need to to be honest with you, I know that I will become a seven-figure marketer within three years.

That's me personally.

For your people out there listening, they've got to find, they've got to think, what is their "why?" W-H-Y, why do they do this, why do they do Internet marketing, what is it that drives them on to do it, and always keep that on your mind.

Mine personally, it was that I wanted to work for myself, I loved my job but I just didn't like working for other people, I didn't like being told what to do. And that was my real motivation.

And when I was majored under I thought, that's it, I'm not going back, and I've never looked back from there. So people need to really think, why are they doing this, what are their key motivations to this and keep those in the forefront of their minds.

Keep them on your monitor, keep them on your desk, whatever it is - a picture of a fast car, a picture of a nice house, picture of your family, whatever it is - and just remember that that's why you're doing it and I think that that should be motivation enough for you.

Those are really nice thoughts, Matt.

I like how you describe motivation. Most people get that initial kick, but they fail to 'kick themselves' daily. There's a saying:

'Motivation doesn't last. Neither does bathing. That's why it's recommended daily.'

And I totally agree with You - WHY is more important than HOW. If you know the WHYs, HOWs will follow.

    Kind Regards,
    Zannix

That was a really incredible post. It'll definitely be motivating a lot of people. Motivation is what keeps you going, but like the quote above says, it doesn't last. The story inspired me, so honestly, thanks for the post. I definitely agree with both of you too, why is most important. How always follows.

You have described two different types of motivation. Tilley's motivation is the fact that he enjoys what he does. While your motivation is the end result.

I feel it's difficult to truely enjoy something when you are just starting into whatever it is you are doing hence the goal orientated motivation is necessary. However, to persist in that field, I wonder if it's necessary to change that goal orientated motivation to passion orientated motivation.

If you don't enjoy your work, I'm curious as to how long goal orientated motivation can bring you.

What happens if people are trying to "de-motivate" you?

    Thanks Matt,

This is an insightful post. When you are passionate about what you are doing motivation comes easily. That's the key to staying motivated. So find what you are passionate about and do it.

Pursue your passion or life mission. That's akin to "self-actualization."

Self-actualization was propounded by Abraham Maslow.

Also read "What Color is your Parachute?" by Richard Bolles.

Also: "Do what you love; the money will follow."

Paying my Child Support motivates me! Haha..................... (no but seriously!)

That was half way joking, half way not. My family in general provides endless motivation for me. But what is motivation? Focus mixed inspiration? Holy crap, I think I just made that up. Let me think... Yup, pretty sure I've never read that anywhere, but I like it! Focus mixed with inspiration! I'm going to go write that down!

Someday you'll see in a book somewhere this same quote: "Motivation is Focus mixed with Inspiration!" -Nathan Bumpsteed

Ahhh... I love my life... Tis good.

I would say Nathan is more motivated than me (I am single with no kids)

what moves man, it was moves the markets (follow the money and you'll see the most comprehensive list of human actions, love, success, follies, and corruption) - fear and greed IMO

greed I want the big house or car and
fear I won't have a roof over my head or take care of my family.
