Changing Perfectionist Attitude with visualization?

Hey All

I just wondered, i may have a perfectionist tendancy, one that aims to do something so right to begin with that i end up not starting or worrying if i will do it wrong and waste all that time

So out if curiosity if i wanted to change this with visualization, what would be your end image?

thank you

Your end image would be any unfinished job that you are completely happy with.

Or you could say affermations to yourself like "I do not need to make something perfect, i just need to make something" or "I will do more work and not worry about the outcome at all"

Also dont forget, multimillion dollar businesses were built from scratch and were in NO WAY perfect when they started........

Perfection is born from MISTAKES......... if you dont work and create something with mistakes, how can you know how to improve them?

Also, things dont need to be perfect... in fact there is almost NOTHING... that is perfect....... so the important thing to remember is that if you do work, and have a positive attitude, you will succeed.

yeah sure, instead of saying "I do NOT need to make something perfect, I just need to make something"
you could say, "I will begin to make something, regardless of the outcome"
or "Millions are made every day from imperfect products and website"
or "Thousands of others are making money, and are STILL making mistakes"

All of these will help you realise that it dousnt need to be perfect, the best thing to do is to TAKE ACTION....

"If I take action, then I will succeed"

Oh, and its ok to have negatives in your affirmations, but make sure you emphasise the negative word, and not the problem word..

so if your affirmation was "I must take action, and It does not need to be perfect"
you emphasis would be on "IT DOES NOT"

so you would say "I MUST take action, and it DOES NOT need to be perfect"

Thats a fine affirmation. so you can use them if you want...

Yep ! I wasn't clear I'll give it try again

What I meant was, The image you need visualize is ......

" Yourself in instant and simple Action before you are fully prepared."

Perfectionism as per me is more of a craving of more inputs and postpone outputs(actions). In reality, you get specific and practical inputs when you start doing something towards what you want to accomplish in simple actions.

Now again read .. the image you want to visualize

" Yourself in instant and simple Action before you are fully prepared."

Did I manage to communicate a bit more clearly now ?

The end image could be something like...

You being happy about a good work.
You being happy about something that you try your best.
An unfinished task but fulfilling results.
Something that you are just giving a try.

    Hope these ideas help you.

    Hi James,

Maybe have an end image of you holding a stack of papers each representing a completed project. On each piece of paper you could have a red check mark symbolizing the project has been completed. As you look through each individual paper in the stack you could also attach an emotional state of satisfaction in knowing that you had completed each project.

What has been working for me is completing smaller tasks or tasks associated with projects. If I were you, I would pick one small task and then give yourself a one day time limit for completing that task. Everytime you complete a task, write it down, check it off and store it in both a regular file and in your mental file of completed tasks.

The more tasks you finish, the more confident you'll get that you can complete the bigger ones. You may become so good at completing tasks and then projects that you won't need to visualize overcoming perfection, you'll just be doing it!
