What Is The Most Important Skill You Should Have As A Business Owner ?

I was working at home today and I felt sort of sluggish. I know that feeling. It's the feeling I get when I want to be lazy. I know that sometimes I can be a workaholic. I find it hard to stop. When I do
decide to take a day off. I always feel like there's something else I
could be doing thats work related.

The fun never ends,lol.

I know that we all need to take time off and relax. My grandfather spent hours talking to me about the importance of hard work, and family.

He also gave me his entreprenerial spirit, he ran two successful businesses.

Looking back at his life, I started to think, what is the most important skill
you should have as a business owner ?

While patience is and hardwork are the backbone on my business, this is the question I present to you.

ONE thing? That is a hard question.

Focus is definitely up there on the list.
    Work-life balance is another.
Persistence, commitment, honesty, passion are also great attributes/skills.

I don't know if I could pick just one but they are all critical in my opinion.

      This guy... My twin?

Exactly what I was going to say. Stay focused, dedicated, and motivated. Treat people how you want to be treated. That's about it. Those are the keys to success.

  • never give up and want to learn.
Most people are too quick to give up, and many people working hard but lazy to study the current business developments.
    That's my opinion..

Man one thing is sooo hard to pin point. There are so many skills

I would say sales & marketing. Is that two things? They're very closely linked though

Just always be learning and be open to new opportunities.

Your so right , there are more than just one skill we must master , but In my opinion the greatest thing I have gained in life and business is patience. It truly is a virtue.

    an understanding of repetition:

repetition is what leads any business person to success.

if you suck at closing sells, study successful closing tactics from successful salesmen and women.. and constantly repeat them over and over until it is second nature to you.

if you want to be the best musician in the world it's the repetition of honing your craft that will lead you there.

if you want to brand your business..the repetition of successful ads will do that for you.

If you fail to value the power of repetition then you are most definitely wasting your time in business.

Because the only way to become great and master any skill in business is through repetition..repeatedly practicing sells will help you sell better etc, etc.

So to answer the ops question, a thorough understanding of repetition is where i would start.

I would say 'good contacts' and PR. Contacts with the right people of your industry can really slash your struggle and bring you closer to success. However, you do need quality of work, honesty, customer trust, good reputation and so many other things to sustain you.

I think its about being Adaptable & Persevering - you need to be willing to quickly adapt to a changing environment and not get stuck to one particular way of doing things. If someone points out a flaw in something, don't dig your heels in or give up completely - rather, be willing to evaluate it objectively and adapt as necessary.

These are more "attributes" rather than "skills" but if I absolutely had to pick a skill - then it would be the ability to market/sell - whether its selling your idea to your investors, selling your product to your customers or selling an opportunity to your affiliates, its a skill that always comes in handy

I don't think that there is one most important skill as there are several qualities that a business owner must have if he is to run a successful business However, one of them is flexibility as he must be able to balance work with family and time for himself.

To me it must be FOCUS.

As entrepreneur we like to explore new stuffs. Chances are we'll come across interesting stuff or opportunities which we want to dabber with. That may cause us to lose focus on our initial direction. I'm a culprit of it many times.

Second is DISCIPLINE. We manage our time and we can do anything with that time. If we are not plowing on our business, we are not productive. But it's more of time for business, and time for fun. Got to manage that.

Lastly is the external skill, sales & marketing. No sales, no income; business can't survive.

Depending on the scale of the business, there will come a time where sales & marketing is not as important as leadership skill. When the business grows, the team expands, leadership skill takes on rank no. 1.

    ~ Winston Churchill quotes
I wrote my opinion and deleted it. And wrote again and deleted again since whatever I wrote wasn't enough. And I though of the Churchill's saying. I think his quote tells us what is the most important thing for business owner.

I think you need to determine the end result or outcome that you desire. Then you must create a plan of action. You must have Persistence to reach the outcome you desire and be willing to take the good with the bad!

A postive outlook on life and creating postive energy helps!

Also I would say; focus on what is at reach and build from there!

I think that would be being eager to learn and not giving up easily. Having your own business is not just as easy as some see it. You have to love what you are doing and embrace the fact that there are challenges and failures that will come across the way which will help us to achieve our goals and succeed in whatever endeavor we want to have.

    Belief!

It should be like your religion. Un-movable, un-shakable and no matter what anybody says. That's just what you believe.
