Does our Culture Today have the lack of Drive for Success?

Is it just me or does our culture today have a lack of drive, enthusiasm or compulsion to succeed?

The younger generation just seems to have a zero lack of ambition. Many of these young people today are the most unambitious people to ever walk the face of the earth. They don’t strive for anything and it’s probably because they’ve been given everything. All ambition means to them is the potential that they might have to get a job to pay for their own gas money, laptops and concert tickets instead of mooching them off their parents all the time.

I see this for those trying to make money online from home quite a bit too. We'll build your business for you. Automated Marketing Systems. We'll call your leads for you. Hands Free. Never lift a finger, blah blah blah... you heard all those right? I'm just not sure what people are thinking sometimes? Do you really think you can pay a few dollars and sit back and collect checks? Seriously... I think some people think they can make money online from home and their computer is going to turn into an ATM machine.

I'm not that old, but when I was young, people were driven to succeed. We worked hard and we saved our money for something special someday. We had ambitions and goals. We worked for free sometimes just to be recognized and we would do just about anything for an extra $5.

They say around 95% of the people who try to make money online from home are failing, Would it be safer to say the 5% of the people who are making money online from home are ambicious? They DO have the drive, enthusiasm and compulsion to succeed.

How are we going to motivate the other 95% of the people?

What are your thoughts? Is it just me or do you see this too?

It is hard to admit or be aware of.

    the culture does effect us.

Drive? no, use "the secret", it will come to you with good thoughts and intentions.

Ambition ? No, find the magic bullets and "get quick results with no work"

Compulsion ? the drive to go after what you want!??? but why even try..the world could end this week!!!

Glad your aware of this. but it's pretty deep for marketers!

Everyone is unique and is driven by different factors. If you were to ask 10 people why they want to work for themselves on line, chances are you will get a wide range of answers. Because the stimulus is different, each person is different. I have worked with people who have children that would certainly fit in the group that you have outlined. On the other hand, we have young successful people right here on the forum that are very driven. The outside business culture has changed wildly. There is no watch waiting for you for years of dedicated service, just plenty of hard work, multi-tasking, then thanks for your help, oh by the way, don't let the door hit you on the way out. This type of attitude can take the desire to succeed out of anyone. So in the end, I guess it all boils down to each person is an individual, some are motivated, and others just want to get by, looking for the easy way around it, and the secret to get to the top without the work or effort.

You're right and I must clearify... there are some young successful people that are very driven. As a society we tend to group people all in one category and it's NOT fair to assume that... I guess as a nation we kind of witnessed that with 911. There was a group of people that were all classified as terroist and the fact is, they are people just like us, but a few people ruined it for everyone.

I still feel as a society in a whole, we are much lazier and it seems to be having the biggest impact on the younger generation. Everything is easier today and set up to take less effort. I don't have to call anymore, I can just send a text message to say what I need to say. I don't have to go in the restaurant anymore. I can just go through the drive through. I don't have to prepare a meal anymore. I can just go to the super market and pick up one already prepared and make it look like I cooked it : ) (that's my secret) People that are a little older like me appreciate things a little more because we know what it was like not long ago. We didn't have the luxuries we take for granted today.

The kids are our future and we need to get them all motivated and excited about life and the future. We can't just rely on a few to get the job done.

Sometimes I think so but then I remember the 80/20 rule. 20% of the people in this world are going to provide 80% of the results. If it looks like there's a lot of people around you that aren't driven to succeed... maybe you're hanging around the wrong people?
