Does someone's opinion of you became your own reality?

As I contemplate and work on shifting my paradigm, my attention goes straight to...Words. They are powerful... I am being VERY conscious of what I allow to sink in to my own mental factory 9which is proving to be easier said than done) and I am being equally as careful when speaking to others...

I am living testament on how Words can destroy just as easily as they can build up.

I'm wondering if any of you have let words from others bring you down and what did you do to let it be...'water off a duck'?

When I recieve discouraging words, when someone tries to bring me down, I think about how hard I have been working on - how long I have been waiting for it. And then I think, why should I listen to this person? I know myself better than they do. I KNOW that I am able to reach my goal, because I am DETERMINED to do it. They don't know at to what point I desire my goal, so I don't listen to their opinion because they are not valid for me. They don't know me as much as they think they do.

If someone says I am not able to do this or that, I think - hey why not? Why can't I? You are no one to say I can't.

Let others leave their future in someone else's hands, but not you. You are the one who leads your life, don't let others bring you down.

Thank you for the video! I posted it on FB and it gave me chills...so true...I think one has to be their own best advocate. I grew up with an abusive parent and shifting it all now is proving to be more difficult than I ever thought, but when I interact with people like you on this forum, I know I am on the right track!

I absolutely agree with you. We should be our best advocate, because if we can't find value in ourselves, why would somebody else? I too grew up with an abusive parent and rather than being able to grow up exploring and finding who I really am, I was taught what to think about myself from an emotionally unstable person. Not a perspective worth even considering. With time, a positive attitude (sometimes forced), and re-teaching my brain a healthier way of thinking, I think happiness will come. It's hard, but you're worth it!

very very true when you said words can build and destroy. and the only reason why i know this is because of all the negativity and verbal abuse i had to go through in my lifetime.

with me it used to be in one ear out the other. BUT now it doesn't even make it through. You have to control it no one else can. You are responsible for for yourself only, cant control anybody.

The only voice you should listen to is your own inner voice. It's the only one that knows who and what you are, why you are here and what you need to know to accomplish your life's purpose. Everyone else is dealing with their own issues. You came equipped with inner guidance, only the noise from outside prevents you from hearing it.

only if you believe that that person holds any relevant value to you, and even in that case you should only take it with a grain of salt, and realize that you are the only person in control of your own reality.
