Is it possible to hold a full time job as well as IM ? Whats your motivation ?

Considering most people work say from 9-5, travel home, some go to the gym, others don't, and most people generally just eat and relax and then sleep.

But what do IM's do, and what motivates you ?

Personally, Id rather put my time into my health and my family and include some social time each week, some play and relaxation.

Is it even worth me coming home each day and spending any spare time I have on IM ? I know I don't need the money to be happy, so how do I keep motivated to come home each day and keep working ?

Is there that much money to be made with 2-3 hours work each day ?

It's up to you to what you want I guess? But believe in yourself, and it will go.

I am holding a full time job now and working on my blog at the same time. Am really lucky cause my boss is supporting me.

The best advice I ever had was that if I wanted to start my own business I should do it part time until it begins to make enough money to allow me to quit my regular full time job. So if you look at whatever IM you do as a business that answers the question.

On the other point, can you make enough income working a couple hours a day? Absolutely. But that generally doesn't happen right out of the gate. If you work on things that will bring you passive income eventually (theoretically) you could work zero hours and still get paid. one income I have is through youtube brings in a few hundred every month and has for years now. I hardly ever do videos, but that stream of income keeps flowing. (that reminds me, I need to do more videos) : )

Some very motivating and inspiring posts in here. I wont respond to all of them but thanks to everyone who posted.

Its made me realize that I have I fairly solid business plan and that I just need to take action and finish off my first project.

I think belief is important, but so is managing fear. I'm pretty much guaranteed a fraction of money within a month or two yet I still procrastinate, and I think that may be due to fear. I'm just going to jump right in this Monday coming and focus on the result rather than the process.

  • Having a full time job offers the opportunity to be efficient and more effective. I also want to echo the sentiment that it is nice to have a steady income as you build up your business. My suggestion is -

When you are at your job, focus on your job.
When you are working your business, focus on your business.

In no time at all, you will see your business start to grow.

Your statements have raised a question: Why do you have any interest in Internet Marketing? Based on what you have said it seems like you would prefer to be doing something else. It seems as though there is a dichotomy here. Please clarify.

It is possible but sooner or later you will and will always end up choosing which career path to take. Will it be your day job or your IM venture? But, while you are still on the start-up phase, you can still consider doing both. But, when things go well and your internet marketing business is doing well and giving you more than what you earn in your day day job therefore it is ethical that you quit your job and focus your time and effort to your IM.

Yes, it is possible. If fact a lot of people are doing it. If you have a job, it is advisable to stay with your present job until the earning that you receive from your business equals or surpasses your salary. Then it's time to consider leaving your job and focus your time on your business.

It would require more time and effort at the start but when you get your business set up and established then you can spend less time on it and more time on your other priorities.

If I just put 2-3 hours of actual work into my niche websites each day I'd be making much more than I am right now lol. I probably put a mere 30 minutes to an hour a day into them now and they are doing great. It really depends on how much effort you put into what you are doing.

As for my lifestyle, I go to the gym everyday and play racquetball, I have 2 motorcycles and ride with a community of riders that I created when I first started IM, I play video games all the time, help out my mom and dad with anything they need, build multiple business's and really just enjoy my life.

I wouldn't say it's pointless. I do put a lot of work into my primary business but that's because I really really enjoy it. It's all about what makes you happy.

This isn't recommended for everyone, but the minute I found out that I was capable of earning a living online, I quit my job and didn't look back. I spent two full weeks eating, sleeping & breathing IM and eventually, I started to make breakthroughs and success was just a matter of time.

To answer your question: While I do think anything is possible, trying to make a decent living online won't be easy while holding a full-time day job. But it certainly can be done. Your motivation is what will be the deciding factor.

There is a saying by many IMers "Do what others won't today so you can have what others cant tomorrow." I work 9-5 then +5more hrs of IM now, so I can quit my 9-5 and only work 5h of IM and make more money than my 9-5 in the future.

If you work 9-5 now, have you thought about tomorrow? 5yr? 10? 20? You dont need the money to be happy now but what about tomorrow. Layoffs, downsizing, mergers, becoming incapacitated all very likely reasons to negatively effect your income. Will you be happy after your income drops and you have to look in your child's eyes and tell them "We can't buy you a birthday present because we haven't got any money." Are you still sure you dont need money to be happy? I don't.

I do IM because I think of it as a Business. And I chose this business model because IM has the lowest barriers of entry and lowest startup cost of any business I know and yet it has the potential of having the biggest customer base because when I put up a website online I can market worldwide. Low risk/high yeild. Optimum investment strategy.

Of course, not every website will make you money and you definately wont be working only 2-3 hrs to begin with.(more like 8hr) But if a website dont make you money you can just scratch that off and start another. Imagine you put 100k to a restaurant and it sinks. Do you have a second 100k?

This business isn't for everyone. So you have to decide for yourself if this is for you.

for me the whole point of IM is that it doesnt require much time, and i can do it from home when ever i feel like it, that way i can still hold my full time job and make some bucks on the side from IM.

I work part time in the evenings. So I have the whole time during the day to make my business work. I find working at home enjoyable, it just depends on what you want in life. My Part time work is not the best by all means but it is steady income at the moment, helping me get my own business running. Next year I am off to New Zealand for a couple of months and hopefully can Move there permanently to run my business from there. . Future is looking bright over here. Just need to meet my deadlines and then my business will keep growing.
