Life Quotes ~ Inspire You to move to a better LIFE!

There are many great quotes from great people. A number of them are very well known, even national and international icons, and some not so well known. Many are alive today, whilst many have passed over, possibly even returned depending on their stage of enlightenment, but that's another topic for another day. I wanted to share with you a few of my own favourites and hope that they inspire you as many have inspired me in daily activities. The interpretations of the quotes are only my opinion. You may see something completely different in them.

"A man sooner or later discovers that he is the master-gardener of his soul, the director of his life." ~ James Allen ~ Is probably best known at this time for his book "As A Man Thinketh" It became widely popular and read with many motivational speakers including it within their programs, workshops and seminars. To me, this says that everyone sooner or later discovers that they have latent abilities and power that are left untapped. That is until they look within for the answers that have always been there.

"All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson ~ Was an American philosopher, lecturer, essayist, and poet. He was one of the earliest and greatest of American Sages, a philosopher who created the Transcendentalist movement which gave young America intellectual and metaphysical credibility and direction. In this quote he is saying that it's ok to make mistakes. These are just experiments that didn't turn out as you expected. So the more experiments you make, the more chance there is to get a result. Just as Edison did with the light bulb.

"Do not dwell in the past; do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment." ~ Buddha ~ This is also something that has come to the forefront of today's thinking with people like Eckhart Tolle expressing their ideas about living in the NOW. I think everyone knows who Buddha was ...

"Every man dies. Not every man really lives." ~ William Wallace ~ This is a very personal favourite of mine since it came from one of the late great men and leaders of Scotland. This quote was probably made more famous by the film Braveheart. When these words were spoken it was to instil a sense of loyalty and freedom into the men who were about to do battle with any army of superior strength in numbers. The simplicity of the words is so true that we all eventually die, but how many of us truly live a life that is full?

"Here is the test to find whether your mission on Earth is finished: if you're alive, it isn't." ~ Richard Bach ~ Is an author probably best known for his book Jonathan Livingston Seagull. It is a fable about the importance of making the most of our lives, even if our dreams seem to run against what is considered to be normal. Richard was a tactical fighter pilot, a motion picture stunt pilot, and flight instructor before becoming one of the world's bestselling authors. Again it is simplistic and profound in meaning. If you are living and breathing, then your life purpose has not yet been fulfilled.

"Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh." ~George Bernard Shaw ~ Wrote several plays with political themes during his lifetime. Born to Scottish parents in Dublin, Ireland he was a dramatist, literary critic, a socialist spokesman, and a leading figure in the 20th century theatre. He gave lectures on socialism and helped to give out political literature. This quote may seem cynical or harsh to some but it is true in its pure essence if you really think about it.

"The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases." ~ Carl Jung ~ Is thought to be the founder of analytic psychology , as he used elements of human identity and society, dreams, art, religious conviction, and myths to understand human nature. He also introduced the idea of hierarchy of mental functions. This quote ties in very well with the perception I have about being able to help others with a standard step by step formula. It cannot work because as he puts it we all have different shoe sizes. To repeat what a friend, Al Diaz said about this, if someone tells you they have all the answers to all of your problems... Run in the opposite direction.

"We need to give each other the space to grow, to be ourselves, to exercise our diversity. We need to give each other space so that we may both give and receive such beautiful things as ideas, openness, dignity, joy, healing, and inclusion." ~ Max de Pree ~ Maybe someone who is not quite as well known ... He is a retired leader and founder of Herman Miller Company, which manufactures office furniture. He is also the author of two bestselling books that look at business in a distinctly non traditional manner. One of his books, "Leadership is an Art" has sold more than 800,000 copies. He has now turned his attention to nonprofits and the way they bring out the best in individuals. We do need space to grow not only in our business lives but in our personal relationships as well.

"When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me." ~
Erma Bombeck ~ Probably better known in the US, Erma Bombeck was born in Dayton, Ohio. Between 1965 and 1996, she wrote over 4,000 newspaper columns chronicling the ordinary life of a Midwestern suburban housewife with broad, and sometimes well-expressed, humour. She also published 15 books, most of which became best-sellers. I think the message is clear in this quote. Give everything you have got and use every talent and ability you have to leave your own legacy.

"You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life." ~ Albert Camus ~ Was born in Mondovi, Algeria in 1913. He was a French author and philosopher and one of the principal luminaries (with Jean-Paul Sartre) of existentialism. He was killed on January 4, 1960 in a car accident in Paris. This is one of my all time favourites and is eternal. I think he really meant searching for happiness and the meaning of life out with yourself instead of looking within. In other words if you spend all of your time looking for happiness or the essence of it, life will pass you by and you may never experience it.

I hope you have enjoyed these quotes and can think about what they mean to you. Be inspired and incorporate what resonates in your heart from them into your own life.

  • Richard Bach is a pretty well forgotten founding father who laid the groundwork for such as Adyashanti, Eckart Tolle and Wayne Dyer. The book you mention, Illusions, is the ONLY possession that i still have since my college days everything else has disappeared over the decades and a dozen or so relocations from NY to LA to FLorida to Austin to Maine. Just nice to see not all have forgotten him and to see him get some mention.

Richard was a huge inspiration for me along with John Harricharan in writing and publishing my own first book "Orion & The Wildcat" a few months ago. So, I could never forget Richard Bach and have the book and dvd for JLS.
