What New Years Resolutions Have You Succeeded In - Why?

Hello fellow warriors - I just love saying that!

The New Year approaches and with that will inevitably come all those new year resolutions.

We know statistically that hardly any NYR ever succeed - why?

I'm really looking at what kinds of goals we set that work and what ones fail. And do you know why?

Here are some questions to help us work out what works and why

1 - What New Years Resolutions (NYR) Have You Set?
2 - Which of Those Did You Really Mean?
3 - Why Did You Set That Goal?
4 - What Difference Would Succeeding In This Goal Mean To You and Your Life?
5 - In Which NYR Did You Succeed?
6 - Which NYR Failed
7 - What differences are there that you now see, between 5 & 6
8 - What NYR are you setting for next year?
9 - How confident are you that you will succeed?
10 - What would help you to guarantee success?

Cheer guys for your feedback, add anything you think is relevant or any resources you have used before to become more successful in your goal setting and new years resolutions.

I like to set goals, and NYR are perhaps the ultimate goals.

    1) Get in better shape, get a full-time job, start doing mainstream affiliate marketing again, find a girlfriend (LOL), move into a better place, and start going back to school.

    2) All of them!

    3) Because I wanted to better myself and my life.

    4) Be happier and more accomplished in my life.

    5) All but the last one.

    a) I went down to 195, but wasn't able to pack on more muscle, so I switched to a hybrid of my old workout routine and what I learned at the beginning of the year.

    b) I got a full-time job about seven months before my goal (by November of this year).

    c) I started this back up about two months ago, but in retrospect, I should have been doing it while I was unemployed...

    d) I got married a couple of months ago!

    e) I've actually moved three times this year, and every place was better than the last...hopefully, I can stay put for awhile.

    6) f) I decided to keep working/IM stuff.

    7) I'm presuming this is between 5 and 6...I guess that I'm able to accomplish most of my goals, which is a big win in my book.

    8) a) build up my sites to the point where I can generate enough income that if need be, I wouldn't have to work full-time.

    b) maintain/add more definition to my physique.

    c) help my wife launch her own website, and possibly parlay that into her own bakery.

    d) Move to either another town, or another state (once my wife graduates from college).

    e) go back to the automotive industry...I've been thinking about this a lot, and it's the one thing (besides IM) that really makes me happy!

    9) I'm confident that i will be able to accomplish all of my goals, as long as I keep telling myself to never quit!

    10) Warrior Forums and the gym!

    Hey KoreanCowboy!!
    Wow!!

    You are a success warrior!

To have succeeded in so many of your goals is a great example.

How do you work on your goals? Are you visualising them, planning them, gathering resources? Can you tell me more about your success blueprint.

So I noticed that going back to school was the only goal that wasnt successful.

    Can I ask:
What would going back to school mean to you?
Why did you set that goal?
What difference is it making that you didn't achieve that... yet?

    Thanks

The one thing I achieved in 2011 from the things I put on the last NYR is:

      - I quit my job and make a living now with a website.

Actually, this happens way earlier than I imagined Dec 11.

The reason for me was the pure pain I've experienced in the job. Not only did I feel like wasting my life, but the job stressed me like hell.

So: pain seems to be a big motivator. Maybe this is what I could contribute to this thread:

Could it be that many people forget the PAIN-factor when they decide about their NYR?

Seems to me that NYR is more about dreams in most cases, instead of including pain and pleasure ...

        Hi lifesofree

First of all wow! You've done amazingly. Its true that when people set a goal the right way, they can often exceed their own expectations and bring the goal forward in time as you have!

Now to the comments on pain.

Yes pain is a motivator but its not that pleasant and there are other ways to set your goals and be sure of success.

As human beings, we tend to 'move away' from pain, and 'move towards' pleasure.

So some people are driven towards a goal because the alternative is painful. But others will be driven by the pleasure of succeeding in a goal.

When you think about it, all the wealthiest people on the planet are driven by the latter as they have no real 'pain' to move away from. I'm sure there is the odd entrepreneur who is still driven by pain, in fact in my work I have met a fortune 100 business owner whose business partner was holed up in a hotel. He has all the money anyone could ever need but he didn't even have a home and rarely socialised. He may have been wealthy in money, but was sadly very poor in happiness.

So maybe for your next goal, you will set yourself some truly pleasureable aims and let those be your guide Let me know how you get on and thanks for taking the time to add your comments

        Thanks, Larkrise

LOL thanks! I guess I did accomplish a lot this year, but it doesn't really feel like I have, although it's been busy.

I think for every goal that I succeeded, I usually do this:

      1) Determine exactly what it is that I want to achieve
      2) Visualise it (this is key)
      3) Find out as much information as possible
      4) Implement it/take action
      5) Tweak it until I find something that is successful!

As far as going back to school is concerned, it's really something that I've always wanted to do...but in the back of my mind, I feel that it would take me away from what I really love to do/want to do with the rest of my life.

The only way that I would go back to school now is if I was doing IM full-time, and could take courses online, or as much as possible. Since I want to do IM and wholesale cars (another passion of mine), I don't see how I could do all three.

So, going to school, while it's something that I would like to do, keeps getting put on the backburner. Who knows, maybe in 20 years I'll decide to become a full-time student!

I am not the best person at succeeding in such goals being made, but my husband is. He has the same commitment and dedication that it seems most of you possess. When I read posts like these it makes me want to be better. Thanks for inspiring!

      Hi fmnely1

How much do you wish you could fire your boss?

What do you need to have in place before you can do that?

What's stopping you from getting started on this goal?

I've never created a New Year's Resolution, but this could be a different start.

New years resolutions can be enormously powerful.

I have a strong memory of being at a party in December many years ago. I was chatting to someone and I said

'this time next year I will have a new job and a new relationship'

the reason this stands out in my mind is because I was saying aloud something that I firmly intended. It wasnt a wish or a desire, it was an intention.

And sure enough I achieved both those aims. I've been married to one of them for many years

Another memory stands out which had the same 'feeling' associated with a conversation I had with my daughter.

I told her what I intended to achieve in the next year. It was a statement that began with 'this time next year I will...'

Part of that goal included moving to a much bigger more expensive house and of course that meant my goal also included a much greater income.

I achieved both and still live in my beautiful house.

What is important is that we can set our sights quite literally on something we want to achieve and the new year provides us with a sense of opportunity and change.

When a goal is an intention, then it will become a reality. You don't even need to know how or why this will be so, just intend it with strong conviction and your unconscious mind will ensure the rest is taken care of.

Come back and write your goals for next year but maybe write them as intentions of what you will do rather than what you wish you could do.

I haven't created any resolutions this year, in fact as we approaches the end of year I will reflect on the year that past and try to see what I want to accomplish next year and set some goals....

    Hi Larksie,

thanks a lot for the compliment and you nice answer. I'll have the chance soon to set some inspiring goals.

Changing from beeing an employee to making a living on the internet was actually something I dreamed of for various reasons at the time I set the goal. But then the job was such a painful experience that I've had to reach the goal much earlier.

That was when I started getting up earlier in the morning and working on the evenings as well as on the weekends. Without the pain factor I guess it would have lasted longer for me to achieve the goal.

Regarding the rich people, my idea is that they are frightened to lose something they've got and carry a lot of other unrealistic fears within themselves.

The pain always worked best for me. Thinking back at the time on university, I was just terrified to get bad grades. So: yes it worked in regard to the output. Yet I have to confess that the whole experience sucked.

How are you setting goals? Do you write them down? Are you visualizing all day long? How do you come up with the goals?

    Bye, lifesofree

      Lifesofree -

I am a coach by profession, a professional hypnotherapist and nlp trainer, so everything I do in my work for many years, has been focused on the mind.

I've created a digital coaching product for goal setting and this includes the formula for setting a goal that WILL SUCCEED. The formula is based on years of researching the people I've worked with, many of whom were already very successful in most areas of life, celebrities, opera singers, pop singers, actors, ceo's of fortune 100 companies, lawyers, bankers etc

My work has always been goal oriented. Whatever the problem a client came with, my aim had to be focused on helping them find a suitable solution and from that, new goals would be born.

I've learned what works and writing down a goal is definately an important element. Visualising is also essential.

But the things that get in the way of us succeeding are usually hidden programs (mind programs) that live within our unconscious minds so require a little more skill to remove/change/reset.

And there are some really simple techniques for developing positive mind states that will motivate and keep you motivated to succeed.

My purpose in posting this thread is mainly to guage what kinds of new years resolutions people are likely to make, have made and those that may not have been successful. This is a little more research I'm doing for the launch of the coaching product soon.

I thankyou for your feedback and interesting view of what makes your goals a success

keep writing them down, step by step, review your resources and assess what you need to get the goal done, and visualise all day every day whenver it occurs to you.

Our unconscious minds obey our every command, its worth making sure that what you are 'thinking' is in line with your goals

      To your success!

      and thanks again

    Thank you very much, Larkrise.

Let me try to contribute something else to your research:

I do NYR for a couple of years now. I've even written my goals down on Dec 31 or Jan 01. Yet, most of them I have not achieved, and the biggest part of all those goals disappeared completely for me within the first two weeks or something of the new year.

Actually, the only goal that comes to my mind that I've ever created as a NYR and achieved is the thing I've mentioned above.

    What was the difference?

    - I constantly thought about the goal I have achieved, whereas I've forgotten the others pretty fast
    - I made pictures in my mind with myself beeing self-employed
    - I thought "i hate this job, it's a waste of my life and steals all my freedom" all day long
    - I didn't make the other NYRs equally important
    - The things I did to achieve the goal were things I've already done before, I just needed to intensify the work. It got hard work, but I knew what I would have to do
    - The other NYR-goals were much more new to me as opposed to be in process already

Hope this helps a little bit!
