Only Action Gets Results

I'm forever being asked by people "what do you think of this idea?", "what do you think of that idea?" by people who have great ideas, but just don't seem to get on with them, on with anything.

In contrast, they're always amazed at my constant activity, launching this, launching that, getting on with things, trying, failing.

I'm a BIG fan of doing things, taking action, it often doesn't actually matter what, the details aren't important (though, copy what others do is a good start), the ACTION is what matters.

Don't fear failure, embrace it, happily fail at things, the more things you fail at, the more you succeed at.

That's all, just a thought from the top of my head.

This reminds me of a useful acronym: A.S.K.

Which stands for: Activity, Skills, and Knowledge. Activity creates skills, and skills (in other words, experience) creates knowledge.

When you are hyperactive you will experience many failures and one or two sure winners which will compensate for the failures.

    Success is all about action.

It is unfortunate some people have never realized that.

Here is the thing. Only action gets results, but if the action isn't based on the right knowledge, you end up with mistakes.
Of course, from what people say, the majority of online marketers have the problem of not taking action even if they have useful knowledge.

I've read a few threads in this section and people seem to have a total disregard for thinking things through. They say, "just take action." Don't get me wrong, action brings results, but acting based on useful knowledge will get you there a lot faster.
Gary Halbert had an article, where he told the difference between "efficiently" and "effectively". Using his metaphor, - acting without knowing, you may go down the wrong river. Very fast, learning on your mistakes, etc., but down the wrong river..

And while some may see this as a waste of time... if I ended up going down the wrong river... well, at least now I know what the "wrong" river looks like. Mistakes are what separate the experienced from the inexperienced. Being an expert also means knowing what mistakes to avoid.

    You are so right!

You can achieve anything you want if you just continue taking action. There is no possible way you can not succeed if you just keep going.

I agree that hyper action is a necessary ingredient to success. But, don't forget to get feedback.

I'm reminded of an old episode of "I Love Lucy" where she is making and trying to sell spaghetti sauce. Ricky points out that she is losing money on every jar...so she responds that she will make it up in volume!

Taking action in a wrong direction can be fixed if you pay attention to the feedback and adjust accordingly. But JUST relying on taking action is a recipe for disaster.

There are so many ideas that are coming to our minds, but the problem is we are not implementing it. A lot of people are afraid to take actions because they are afraid to fail. Failure doesn't mean end, let's just take it as a challenge that may take us to the next level.

It is not always a problem. Sometimes the idea and working with it is meant to take us to the next level, too. The problem is in blaming ourselves for .. just about anything, including not implementing many ideas, too - this takes energy from you implementing anything.

I know so many people who talk about what they're "gonna do", but sadly they rarely do... however, I believe that there does need to be a balance - you have to spend time learning, but then you need to put what you've learned into action, and you also need to be prepared to learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of others, and never give up learning and doing. Life is a journey not a destination, but if you don't take action, it might just pass you by....

Step is everything when you take it then don't see behind or for results. As wise people are those who think before saying or doing and dumb is who, who think after.

Couldn't agree more, taking actions is always very important. No matter how much resources you have or how high your dreams are, if you will not do something to pursue it, you can never see it happen.

  • The products of action are either success or failure. Where success comes, one will go ahead and improve on the efficiency of his work for an even broader results. On the other hand, failure takes one back to the drawing board where, he / she will analyze the shortcomings and look for better ways of achieving his / her target, regardless of how many times he / she has to repeat the action. Thus, an individual who avoids action can never have results in which ever way, which subsequently locks him from attaining knowledge. His skills can never multiply because at first he has none. Modern high technology is advanced from the action of old technologists. That spells the way.

So very true. I see soooo many people fail because they won't take action. They procrastinate and stall so that there won't be any failures or mistakes but in the end they never do anything.

It's all based in the fear. Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of looking bad.

Having ideas is always great, but doing something is also important! This is missing, and you see that everywhere! I think this is because of the lack of understanding about what you should do to realise that idea!

Yes, I agree that success is a matter of taking action consistently.

I'm reading a book by micheal masterson which makes the same point that if having a postive outlook and goal setting was all that was neccessary for success, there wouldn't be so many successful people with a generally negative disposition.

Sometimes before taking action you have build a good foundation for your Idea to really become and grow into a success - by effective planning and strategically scheming your move.

But like they say "..too much of every thing isn't good."
So don't waste unnecessary time and energy on planning, thinking, feeling.. and get on with the job already.

My best friend asked me this week, "Have you ever failed at anything?" I said, yes, I fail all the time. If I am not failing I'm not making any progress. She used that as an opportunity to kick me in the butt about some things I'm NOT acting on.

Thanks for bringing this up and reminding me to take action.

I have a friend who was always coming up with ways to get rich, even if he had to spend thousands of dollars on some "get rich" class. I've always wanted to be rich, but I've never done a damn thing about it. I admire him for trying, because he got results while I've got nothing. Great post, ty!

I couldn't agree with you more, Simon. I spent many years sitting on the fence buying one info product after another and doing nothing until I realised i) in that space of time, I've picked up an awful lot about IM and ii) I've still not done anything with it.

Am now hoping that 2012 will be the year that I actually start applying what I've learned!

  • Many people have feared fail and have missed success. Success come through action. You can act/try for the first time and succeed or try and fail. When you fail your next move is to act on the causes of your failure. Action brings skills with it and builds up courage. The many times you repeat to do something the more skills you gather. These skills are perfected each time the process takes place and thus leading to success. Therefore anyone who fears to act because he will fail deprives himself/herself knowledge.

Virtually no one will disagree that without action there is nothing.

The real problem is that the people that ask these "what do you think" questions, knows action is needed, they just want you to run with it and they will wait patiently if you do. If you don't then they rationalize that it wasn't a good idea at all cause you never ran with it.

It happens to me a lot so I figure it has to be happening a lot out there.

Succinct point, learnt the hard way (in my experience)... the amount of marketers and products that tell you to take action all say it (and repeat it) for a reason - you won't achieve anything if you don't take action!!

There is a need to research an idea. There is a time to act on that research. This is true in any field. The successful person knows when to act, has a bit of luck, and knows how to put the odds in his/her favor.

In my case I was more afraid of succeding than failing. Almost all 2011 my mindset was going "why should I deserve to succed?" A twisted and very dangerous mindset, more dangours than be afraid to fail I would say even if both of them are bad.

Well thats behind me know and I have everything to look forward too. The future for 2012 seems bright, its the fear people need to leave behind. Fear crippels you and just waste away peoples true power to make it, at anything.
