The best way to track dreams and tasks done is..

Hello everybody,
first sorry if I will made some grammar mistake
After some trials and errors, I think I've found my way in the Offline arena.
I'm writing a thread here to speak about ways to keep track of my dreams, and the tasks done during the days.
I'm not able to find 'the' right way to do it.
I've started with an excel spreadsheet, then with a project manager program, after that I've tried with a mind map program, now I'm using GQueues (with my g.apps account).
The problem is the constance. I'm able to use one systems for 2-3 weeks, and after that I didnt use it anymore.
I think that the mail problem is the discipline.. or not?
What is your system to keep track of goals and daily tasks?
Are you able to use it and fill it every day?
Thanks for all of your replies
Massimo

(p.s.: I've found another great excel file (Concrete Goals Tracker 2007 Updates | David Seah) to track performance but I think that it has a problem...)

    I have a program that tracks for me called Simpleology. It basically helps you sort through necessary and unnecessary stuff.

      Me too. This tool is great for identifying long, medium, short term goals and then that the activities you do each day take you toward your short term goal. This moves towards the medium term and so on.
      The course is made up of short lessons (10 mins a day) and then the program takes 15 minutes each morning. Gets you set up and focused for the day.

  • Dear Massimo, buona giornata

    What I feel as the main problem in your case, is that you're blaming yourself for inconsistency. But who said, that you have to do the same? When you were a child, you did things a certain way, you don't expect yourself to do things the same way now. So why not to see it this way here, too?

    The problem is, that when you're treating it as a problem, it becomes a problem - you can't blame yourself for anything and feel good and be as productive as you could be if you felt you're doing really well on the subjects that matter to you.

    So, why not see these things as follows: you're consistent in your fine-tuning in the systems that work for you.

    Meaning, when you used those systems, it was because then they matched you. WHen you stopped using them, it means, they stopped working for you the best way, otherwise you would still be using them.

    Trust yourself a little more. And trust the Universe that it will bring you what fits you the best, at the time when you need exactly it. But don't demand from it that it has to fit you until the rest of your days, or any other long period. Let yourself be more flexible with it, and you'll see how much energy it frees, and how much better your everyday work/fun will become, too.

    Your goals are better achieving themselves, when you're treating yourself with more trust and respect. What if instead of the word "discipline" you could use more the word "trust"?

    What if you dropped all these systems because your inner you, wanted you to be freer?

    When you trust it, you will find the system that will work best for you.

      Honestly, I never thought about it this way. I was always saying that I was the one not using it properly. I still do it. After this post, I am going to remember not to beat myself up about this anymore.

      Thanks

      Oh, thank you for this reminder! I found, that in terms of raising the energy, and so the best ultimate results, the best for me is

      * first, in the evening, find 3 things that went well for me that day, and why (in terms of how it made me feel);

      * then set an intention for the next day - again, in terms of how I want to feel. I love finding a motto for myself for the day as I found this works better for me than holding myself accountable with some particular actions;

      * on the wave of that intention I'm easily thinking, what's ready for me to be done this way;

      * and in the morning I just remember the intention, reset it if I need to and try to hold that intention through the day. Then all deeds are like, doing themselves through me, helping me to feel better what I set in my motto.

      A motto can simply be "I am". It gets me centered, and through it more things get done than when I'm holding myself physically accountable "did you do this? If not, you're bad".

    I have a yellow paper notepad that I use for my daily tasks. I also have a whiteboard that I use to track my short term goals.

    And it's a MUST to set your daily tasks the night before. Make sure to number the tasks in terms of priority and do NOT move to the next daily task until you finish the first. I've found great amounts of success in terms of productivity doing this.

    Good luck to you sir

    Oh speaking of planning the night before. I've heard imagining what you want to happen and making it feel like youve already got it can help right before bed.

    Hello everybody for all the feedbacks

    1) Yes, I know Simpleology, and I've tested it : my only concern about this method is that you've to focus only on one thing at a time, but in the real life, you've to spend your time and energy on a lot of things!

    2) I'm trying to use a digital version of the paper, using evernote. I agree that writing a note the night before is a great trick!

    3) Thank you Olga for all your input! Especially for the second point

    I'll keep you informed!

    I know a guy who has a blog regarding his financial battles. I was an avid fan for a few months but I somehow lost the links. But his idea is great. He created the blog for readers to see and experience personally his experiences. Through his blog, he is able to share his success and misfortunes. I think it's a good way to keep track of your goals at the same time earning money out of it through the blog itself.

    A little update.
    Some days ago, I've put a little plan to be more productive.
    After 15 days, I can say it works!
    I'm more focused on things that I've to do, and also help me to fight against poor activities (procrastionation and ... ehm.. xxx sites )
    For example, I've reorder a lot of paper collected in two years!! (GTD style : process it or trash it )
    I've just to improve my bed time ( I need to sleep a little bit more..)
    In short:

    a) write a note of to-do things on a paper
    b) try to do the most during the day
    c) before the bed, track the day, and write a todo list for the next day.

    If I'm not satisfied of the day, I'm going to punish myself: no coffee, no lunch, or give something to charity.
    Believe me, it works!

    On Sunday, track the week, and do the same at the beginning of the month, just to undestand if you're following your path to excellence.

    At the end, I'm using a lot evernote to track ideas during the (rare ) moment away from computer (but also for other things like the shop list..) and it works like a charme!

    Bye,
    Massimo
