End procrastination - A tip

I was reading through some articles and I came across a really obvious tip to end procrastination.

I often think a lot of people procrastinate but do not know the reason why they do so. Now I realise after reading the tip that that was one of my reasons, namely:

Understand your objectives

If you understand your objectives fully then you know exactly what you want as outcome as well the way, with all the subgoals inbetween, to the desired end result. A clear overview is the key, isn't it?

Yeah I'll work on understanding them...tomorrow.

Seriously though, those three simple words can mean everything when it comes to controlling your procrastination. I take the mantra and just go all out with it. I map out everything I need to do down to the absolute smallest detail. Before you know it I have a few pages of "micro" tasks sitting in front of me.

Then I just have at it. I complete one and go, that was easy, let's do another. The quick little gratification keeps you going. Before you know it you are completely into your work; and by the time you are ready to stop you are amazed at how much you actually got done. That's always a great feeling.

Yes by writing every little detail down (all your sub goals) you completely understand your objectives. You know the exact way you will have to take all the way to the end and complete it step by step. Completing goals is a good feeling. Gets you motivated. Doesn't matter how tiny they are.

I totally agree with Joe here

Planning and creating tasks is key to avoiding procrastination.

I use a slight adaption of the Pomodoro technique and I detail what I need to achieve before I start my work day.

Creating task lists can actually be liberating because you don't have to think about what you need to do next. You have another task to complete and you do it and a timeframe in which it should be achieved.

Here is a link for the Pomodoro Technique (Not affiliate, I'm not sure if they selling except for T-shirts anyway) Check it out, plenty of big name IM'ers use it, because it works.

I don't know where the 'mentor' thread was, somewhere in the WF..., but I talked about how I use video games as my mentors.

I've been playing Sims 3 and WF back and forth almost constantly trying to understand where I'm stuck and getting it fixed. What I've noticed is that on Sims 3, they have your char structured with little goals to get big things done. I've been trying to figure out how to apply that to my business.

Between that and this thread, my next little task is what Joe128139 talked about: making a few pages about all the little micro tasks. Just knowing it's 'okay' to make a few pages about micro tasks is AWESOME! Thank you Joe128139!

I have been in the personal development industry now for 12 years and I have to say that this is my BIGGEST issue. I am a procrastinator and my wife is constantly on my case about it. Since is now almost 10 o'clock at night I can very well work on it tonight but I will be reviewing my goals in the morning. Thank you for this thread.
