Visualize/Affirm = automatic action?

Hi ALL

Ive read alot about how visualising our goals/desire/wants will then inspire us, or motivate us to then take action and that action tends to be effortless

Is this your experience?

thank you

Visualization is key to improving your life. Whether you want to or not you're visualizing and when you're afraid you're visualizations reflect that. The idea is simple - put better pictures in your mind that will make you more productive etc.

I've used visualizations and some self hypnosis to get past shyness, public speaking issues etc.

    It does work!

Here's how it works (from my knowledge)...

Visualization and mental pictures intensify your desire. It sharpens the hazy goals and dreams in your mind, until they're focused like a laser beam. Because your goals are so clear through visualization, your desire becomes so strong that you're propelled to take determined action.

And from that point on, it's only a matter of time before you finally achieve what you desire.

      Quick story:

My friend used to tell me that New Zealand is a wonderful place. But I had doubts because I never had a picture of NZ in my mind, until I watched The Lord of The Rings

Remember the absolutely stunning scenery in the movie?

I couldn't help but imagine myself camping up in the snowy mountains, the cool, fresh air in my lungs...

The mental picture (visualization) became so clear in my mind... I told myself, "I'm going there!"

Now normally, I would say you're loony and that I don't believe a single thing of this. Except I have experienced the negative effects of visualizing how bad something can get lol. I believe this in a way now I think.

I know when I have negative thoughts and emotions, my work is effected. Maybe it is as simple as not being able to concentrate or dwelling on the bad instead of focusing on the good. I can see visualizing certain things can motivate you, or at least keep you focused.

Brilliant, please could you kindly explain the difference with self-hypnosis and visualisation, as i thought both were same, creating pictures when in a relaxed state? Ive read how not everyone can create a picture apparently, some get a feeling and arent so visual, yet im visual and if im asked to picture a door or my kitchen i can, so cant everyone visualise?

Finally can you share what works for you please? thank you

For me visualizing can be several things - it may not be clear pictures in the mind. Some people get it from senses of smell and taste - but it has a relationship with emotions too. Actually Kaanb1 is right on with his comment!

And to the person who said their vision board bored them - get rid of it and put up things that excite you! THAT is what it is for, to raise your emotional vibration and help you imagine the having of it.

Remember what Einstein said? “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions.”

Visualization makes a lot of sense to me, mostly because looking back on my successful endeavors they all started with a vision. IT's strange looking back on a speech I gave, since my vision of it was EXACTLY how it unfolded.

That being said, I find self-hypnosis a crock of **** and have never seen any real evidence of it working. As in, do you know one successful person that points to self-hypnosis as an effective tool?

      Because I don't.

I've actually never done self-hypnosis, and looking it up it looks a little more promising than I previously(shows me I shouldn't be so quick to conclusions, hah).

But it's not the same as visualization. Visualization is just the practice of visualizing a desire result before action has taken place, so it's something that takes place with or without a definition. I know it works because I did before I read about it, and to great success.

Think of Bill Gates at Harvard before he started Microsoft, and what he visualized the company to be. Of course a lot of what he envisioned then ended up being true for the company because he was passionate and wanted to create something amazing. I guarantee it.

Yes, this works very well. I am able to raise my core body temperature, for example, just by imagining being on the beach. I have also been able to make others say things to me just by seeing them saying those words to me in my head.

I've had a vision board for a few years and have achieved almost everything on it. There are studies that show that people who can visualize certain things like shrinking a tumor, so becoming more productive seems relatively easy. However, I think that infusing our minds from more than just the visual angle is even more powerful. Smells and sounds are also potent. So if you are visualizing a new car, then get some new car smell! LOL.

Seriously, I'm planning to move to Hawaii and while I'm not quite sure how it's going to happen, I listen to Hawaiian radio every day so that I know all about the neighborhoods and feel like I'm living near the beach even though it's only 30 degrees where I currently live. I also use oils from Hawaiian plants after a shower so I even smell like I'm on the islands!

Hope this gives you some ideas.

      Excellent Adrienne, thank you

please can you explain how YOU use a vision board please. A year ago i found a coach online that said to create a vision board, but after i did that there was nothing, she said just look at it, well i did. I listened to her like a marine, i did what she said which was just to look everyday nothing more, and well i got bored and even though that bored is still on my wall i hardly look at it now, so im confused as to how to actually use a vision board, since you have managed to perfect this please could you kindly share with us how? - thank you (ps: my vision board is FULL of different goals, some seem contradictory such as a couple of differing careers, and so i do feel how the heck will this happen etc)

You said new car smell, how do you mean, imagine how it would smell, or go out a car place and smell a new car as such or something else?

    Hi James,

I usually write my goals down and that serves as an important function in keeping me organized and staying on the right track. This also helps me visualize what it is I'm doing and what I want achieve.

To me it's a crucial method.

    Hope that helps

"whatever the mind of man can conceive it can achieve" ~ Napolean Hill

Even though I love this quote, and it's very popular, I feel that you are not sure of how it works because you may be spending too much time analyzing the meaning and getting confused ( i used to do this alotttt!!!). These things only work when you are doing something and you build momentum (i.e get a job you thought was impossible). When this happens you realize how much potential you really have to grow because you start breaking mental barriers you have had regarding success in any area of life due to social conditioning (i.e you have to be good looking to get the girl etc etc)

    Hope that shed some light

True, plus I would add, why stop at the "visual" part? Why not engage all the senses (what do you see, hear, feel, smell and taste having achieved your goal) and that from both associated and disassociated perspectives (seeing the images/movies from your eyes vs looking at yourself).

And while you are at it, having reached the maximum immersion why not associate (jargon: anchor) the high state with a particular movement, sound, song or action so that you can easily recall it at will when you really need the extra motivation?

What you are actually doing is "clarifying" the end state to yourself, so that your conscious and un-conscious can find a way to get there...

If you use written affirmations, always use wording that your subconsious mind can believe to be true.

It's no good stating "my bank account has $100,000 in by [date]" because you may have trouble actually believing that it could happen both consciously and subconsciously.

Instead you could state "I love to see money flowing into my bank account" - no problem believing that!

Affirmations really help get you in the right mindset for success, something that cannot be done without.

Agreed but to be able to do them with the neccessary belief, one that doesn't make you feel like you're telling yourself lies and therefore make you feel worse about your current situation, and that what you want is hard to get, then you have to find ways to make affirmations a bit softer or general at first then tighten them up as you get closer to them. For example, saying, 'There are plenty of people making money now, whatever the economy is perceived to be doing, therefore I can.' is easier to believe when you're struggling than, 'I can have $10,000 by the end of the week.' or , 'I am wealthy now'
