As a newbie in the world of Internet marketing, I find all the information out there so overwhelming! I'm looking to earn my first $1,000 online as I feel once I get over that initial hurdle I can actually build momentum. I'd love any advice on how I can get started making money online. Thank you do much in advance, any advice offered is greatly appreciated.

I struggled with other internet marketing and seo related ventures for years. In freelancing, I DID IT in FOUR DAYS FROM THE very BEGINNING @ ODesk.com. I cried. Happy.

I am such an overemotional B$#@!.

Well Amanda, what kind of things are you good at? What do you already know about IM? If you have the drive, reaching a thousand dollars per month is very doable. You just have to be sure to pick the right business model and niche for yourself.

It's nice to have a money goal... but for starters, that should come next to learning. You need to find and learn a system that will lead you to earn a dollar or something. Then focus on learning the system entirely. Once you have that, then scale what you have done to reach your money goal level.

It's not hard to reach $1,000 a month income online, but it's not easy either. For a starter, it will take from months to a year to reach that level of income. Let your goal be first on learning things so you don't get easily discourage once it takes you longer to reach your money level goal.

      Good luck.

Like Devonm, I easily made $1000 (and usually quite a bit more) in freelancing, but Panda dried up a lot of the places that paid the best rates. It's much more of a struggle now. It's good to have a money goal so you have something at which to aim, but create a business plan to go along with it. I'm currently expanding my own ventures, and I've found that an income goal is useless without a solid plan on exactly how I (think I) can achieve it.

Your ability to earn depends on several factors. Consider the following:

    • The method you will be using (Offline? Niche Marketing? CPA? etc.)
    • Your current level of expertise in internet marketing
    • Your startup capital (more capital = more investment = potential for faster returns)
    • Your level of focus and total time free to dedicate
Figure out what part of internet marketing excites you or at least interests you. Next, start learning the basics of that particular craft. Once you've learned the basics (don't take too long on this), divide your time between implementing your first project and continued learning, with most of the time dedicated to implementation. The sooner you are able to get into the field, experiment and learn first-hand, the faster you are likely to see success.

Good luck on your goal! $1,000 per month is absolutely achievable if you put your mind to it.

Solid advice - I always encourage people to firstly follow their passion or at least area of particular interest as that will ensure they are invested (or "buy into") in what they are doing from day one.

There will be some ups and downs, and if you are doing something that interests you then you are more likely to stick with it through the tough times and learning points (aka. failures).

The other key point is to focus on one thing at a time - its very easy to get distracted by the shiny new objects, but you should focus on one thing and master it, then you have the option to scale and outsource and then focus on the next thing as you build multiple streams of income (if that appeals).... either way as Aesop87 says, split your time between learning and taking action!!

EASY for me these days. One k a month. That is spare change to me. I am nearing 2K this week in work! The kicker is: It is SLOW week, as this week is in between the two major holidays, Christmas and New years. "Sandwich week". Sandwich Week is expected to be slow as people are on vacation.

The real killer is, that I made nearly 2 K on Sandwich Week ALONE!

    AND:

It is my very first week over 5 dollars! Sudden SPIKE, huh!?

If it is Sandwich Week on oDesk, being slow, imagine what a normal week may be like in my career.

actually you just have to have an understanding about how internet marketing works, what kind of online business you will have, then get deeper, dig down about your concept..

Just make a planning, achievable result-oriented planning, then do your plan..

    That's it...

    good luck

What is frustrating is, people want to sell you stuff, most of the times rehashed courses. Be really picky when choosing courses and stick to one business model until you can make consistent income with it.

    After that you can expand.

It really is dependant on so many factors.
      Are you a beginner?
Do you know anything about Internet Marketing?
      What method you will use?
      What's your market?
Do you have money to invest?
Are you a person with a successful mindset?
Do you have a lot of time to invest?
      ...etc.

Somebody will say you it's easy as ABC and some other person will say they didn't do that in a year!

Form you own opinion, if that's your goal, that's your goal! Go for it and don't stop till you make it

      Be happy, be successful,

The questions should not be how hard are easy is it to make $1000 a month. It should be what actions are you willing to take to make $1000 dollars a month. There are many way to make this money and you have to first think about what you like to do that is fun and then take that thing and look at way that it can make you money. Most people who make $1000 a month are doing it because they are doing something that they like. It should not be hard for you to take action and do something that you like. So my suggestion to you is to think about what you like to do or what makes you happy and use that to make your money from.

    Hi Amanda,

$1,000 is very achievable in IM. Lots of people in this forum have already achieve that goal.

My suggestion and advise to you is: Never Give Up!!

Ask yourself why do you want to start an Online Business? I believed it's because you want to have more life, freedom, time etc right?

That will all come to you only if you press on and Never give up!! Initially the road to success in IM may be very difficult, well that's pretty normal.. but it always gets easier and easier.

I hope I've answered your question somehow, I personally believe that the "why" is more important than the "how". Find your "why" and the "how" will come naturally.

May God be with you always,
    Jeremiah

SUCH good advice. If you don't find your "why," you'll find it much more difficult to achieve the mindset you'll need to develop in order to reach your goals (i.e. an endlessly persistent, dedicated one).

You'll also take much longer to find the right path for you - meaning you could spend ages doing something that doesn't fulfil you. It's a lot easier to pursue something that "pulls" you for specific, emotionally charged reasons than something tied to a sort of vague sense of "well.. I think I'd like more money."

You can help yourself a lot by by figuring out WHY you want to pursue IM, which will inform what actions you should take in order to satisfy your motivations.

Once you've got your "why" and you've chosen a path, stick to it and don't lose your focus. The WF is a crazy maze of more methods than you could possibly imagine. Just remember that the right path for someone else is not necessarily the right one for you.

If it's not immediately relevant to what you're pursuing, don't read/buy it - take action on what you've decided to work on instead. If you do that, you'll get to $1,000 a month in no time.

Think of it like this. $1000 - $250 per week. This can be done in a variety of ways.

    1. Land a writing job online which can easily be done here on WF. This is when you are in need of some money right away.
    2. Write content on your website every day, add in solid high quality content and promote it with getting quality back links and other things. Don't give up. It might take forever to see the gold but sometimes it's worth the wait.
    3. If you don't feel like writing or waiting and have money to spare look into collecting micro niche sites, blogs, forums or other websites that can help with giving you a push in the right direction. (I love micro niche websites and find them to be the easiest to collect!)
    4. Think positive and every day see the money in your hands growing & growing!

Become the ultimate best at whatever you do!

Not as hard as you might think. You are also correct in assuming that making that first $1000 will provide you the momentum to move forward (at least it did for me).

There has been some great advice already given, providing a service is a good way to get started faster. It is harder to scale though.

Building a real business online (which I would define as one that you are not a neccessary feature of) can take longer to set up. Whether that is an e-commerce site, or an information product. But the advantage is that you have an asset that you can sell and produces income even when you are not working on it.

Personally I use a mixed approach of client work / and my own online businesses. And I feel that has worked well for me.

  • First of all, if you want to earn fast .... You can quickly lose. Hard work and effort, observation, experience is priceless. If you want to make first of all you should focus on what can and what you like. Skills is essential, you should have something to offer. If you do what you like and put in a lot of work, will certainly succeed.

Does it have to be $1,000?
I always hear it from our subscribers that they just want to have some extra money, like $500, even some, as low as $300.
Getting a $1,000/month isn't hard, but if your new in IM, first try getting even just a $100-200 a month just to make your feet wet, and remove any doubt from your heart that its not possible to make money online, because IT IS possible.

Getting your first $100 will surely give you the proof that you can make money online which will motivated you enough to make more.

In no time, i'm pretty sure, you will come back here and answer your own question "How Hard/Easy Is It to make $1,000 a month?"
Because just having your first $100-200, you will definitely know the answer, and i'm pretty sure, you will get a positive one.

I remember when I first started freelancing on Odesk. One of my clients, who became a good friend told me that I should be charging $800 a month for SEO services. I thought he was crazy. Fast forward 2 years later. I am one of the more expensive SEO experts on there. Also I am one of the more in demand freelancers. Much of my work is being a consultant.

My advice is this, the first thing that has to change is your mindset. I know that you have heard this many times before. It's true though. Take a few clients to learn your "craft". Then once you are solid in your knowledge, stretch your comfort zone. Ask for more money than you think you can. More than likely, they will ask you to lower your price. It will be more than you thought you could get.

Ultimately, $1000 is not that hard. It comes down to how many hours and the rate you are willing to ask for. At $5.5 an hour full time, you make $1000. So the reality is that it is very doable.
