Where do you see yourself

I've heard this question several time. "Where do you see yourself after 5 years?" I've never been able to answer this question for myself. Because I'm still not sure about my future. Does this happen with all?

This question is timely. At the end of each year I write a list of goals of what I intend to accomplish over the coming year. I then extend the list and say where I would like to be in 5 years or 10 years. It helps keep things in perspective and I also find it motivating. It is rewarding to review the previous years list and see what was accomplished and what wasn't.

Whenever I'm asked the question "where do you see yourself in 5 years" it's hardly ever business related. It's always "in a new house" or "doing xyz" - because business itself is too unpredictable.

In our industry you can't determine what will be "hot" in 5 years so it's hard to stick to that plan regardless, so I stick to things that are obtainable but at the higher end of the spectrum so I have to reach for them.

Yes. I've written down my personal and general financial goals for about 15 years. By writing the goals down and completing realistic steps, most of the goals were met - though not always on time.

What is interesting is how ideas change as we evolve. Many of the monetary goals reached did not provide the satisfaction expected. I look at those goals and laugh at my idea of "success." Now, I'm changing the goals to a lifestyle focus.

Having a written record of where you are compared to where you have been is inspiring. It helps you recognize the control you have on your destiny.

At the beginning of each year, I write the things that I plan to accomplish. It helps set my direction and formulate a plan. If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.

At the end of each year, you'll see how much of these you have accomplished and it will inspire you. It's actually setting a plan— not a commandment set in stone.

I look myself as watching my son to break all the records of studying school and then in college. Just feel proud to be a father of Gabba
