What Did You Take Away From The Secret?

Hello!

I finished reading The Secret in January. I haven't watched the DVD yet. What did you take away from it? I took away the fact that my world is mine to create. That I have only "tapped" the tip of the iceberg with what is REALLY possible.

I took away that I need to get out there and "create" more.

I went through that book in the bookstore and what I took away was that it would be better to spend my time learning more about my profession than reading stuff like that. I'm not an anti-self-help book person (I'm a big fan of Dale Carnegie's work) but just found it too full of mumbo-jumbo and not enough technical solutions on how to get things done. If you're interested in a self-improvement book which really talks about doing A, then B, then C, and how he personally did it, I would recommend The Four Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss. The Secret just seemed to be a bunch of wishful thinking.

    That's just my opinion, though!

    Sweet book worth reading...and APPLYING.

The secret is ok. But it doesnt give you a process to implement. Still, i truly believe in LOA. Its obvious.

Take away? Visualize what you *REALLY* want, truly emotionalize the outcome....and go out there and take ACTION. With a plan to get there of course

I think a better (by far) movie about the same concept is "What the Bleep Do We Know" and the followup "Down the Rabbit Hole".

The movie version of "The Secret" had me fast forwarding to escape the overly-dramatic "actors" .

        Hello Omari Taylor here,

Well what I took away from the movie The Secret is I should be thankful for what I have to attrack more. Ever since I saw the movie every morning I go through the things I'm thankful for everyday. It's been working and slowly more and more great things are happening in my life.

I took away from 'The Secret' that we are sole creators of our destiny. If we are looking for a positive change to happen, then we need to look inside ourselves for those blocks that stop us from achieving our deepest desires. I have grown so much, spiritually since watching the movie and surrounding myself with a community of believers.

The pastor of my church is Reverend Michael Beckwith, so you can see that I'm surrounded by people who practice the preaching of 'The Secret'.

Agape is a great church isn't it?

Keep on your spiritual path. And remember the kingdom of heaven is at hand now. Even though the spiritual journey gets tough, when you experience heaven on earth, you realize it was all worth it... More so than you can ever imagine.

The Secret was a starting point for me. I found it fascinating but like others, full of what ifs. So, I started reading more books, like the Science of Getting Rich, Law of Success in 16 Lessons. and the next book I am going to tackle is I am That. So what I take away from it? A Spark!

I think the secret is what triggered the movement for people to really start searching and studying it deeper by reading books, and hence growing as individuals.

I took away the fact that is is a true law. God created the law of gravity etc and also the law of attraction.
If I use this law I can't do anything but succeed because the law of attraction states that whatever you think about you will receive.
So if you understand this and think and feel good things you cannot help but succeed.

I do not believe that the law of attraction is truly a law. Come on, if you just think of certain things, they don't necessarily come into your life. The Secret was nothing more than a way to make money off of people who were looking for quick fixes.

Well there is nothing in the secret that is a "quick fix", so I am not sure of that.

For me, it got a touch more spiritual than I am comfortable with. What it did give me though was a great starting point for my own personal development. The Secret is full of interesting people. It opened me up to Bob Proctor which opened me up to John Assaraf. They are two of my favourite authors now.

Assaraf is especially good at looking at the science behind "the secret". Brain mapping, neural pathways, changing habits etc...

I never read the book but I have watched the movie. I have some very mixed feelings about The Secret. Part of me is happy to have come across the movie, as it gave a partial explanation for some not-so-coincidental things that were happening in my life at the time I came across it. I also think it did a great job of re-introducing the paradigm we as humans possess a lot more power over ourselves and our lives than we allow ourselves to believe at times.

What disappointed me, after months and months of positive thinking and visualizing and the usual stuff most of these people tell you to do, is that a lot of the material in the movie and subsequent LOA products is OVERWHELMINGLY misleading and incomplete.

There is a stark difference between between LOA in theory and LOA in practice. The Secret offers some relatively valuable theory, but when you begin to put some of the suggested methods for attracting things into practice, a good portion of the theory just doesn't hold up anymore.

An example of this would be telling someone to visualize a desired outcome. This presupposes a number of things, mainly that this person knows how to visualize, and they have the ability of create a visual-mental representation of a desired outcome.

Now, there a lot of people who have difficulty visualizing. Some people claim that they can't visualize at all. In the case of a person who has difficulty visualizing things, the theory that visualizing what you want doesn't hold the same weight as it would for someone who can visualize things almost effortlessly. I personally feel that a more accurate way to convey the same message would be instruct someone to create a mental replica of their desired outcome. This description doesn't place an emphasis on using one particular representation system (i.e. sense of sight, sense of hearing etc.).

Another thing that kinda gets me a little riled up, is that people are often quick to say "well, the LOA states what you think about happens." The phenomenon of attraction doesn't STATE or SAY anything. It's us that say these things. The phenomenon just occurs when certain conditions are met.

There's a few more things I could rattle off, however, I will just say that the secret has some value. It also has a few holes in it. If you want to fill the holes be prepared to explore some additional fields so you can flesh out the lessons in the secret. Here's a few to start:

    Quantum Physics
    Cybernetics
    Memetics
    Neuroscience
    Neuro Linguistic Programming
    Jungian psychology
