Astral Travel/Lucid dreaming

I have been curious about trying out astral projection/travel or lucid dreaming. I am still unsure as to whether I believe in Astral travel but would love to hear of anyone's experiences. Also I have heard there can be some negative aspects to astral travel and it can be quite dangerous, any info will be appreciated.

Yes, its possible. And yes, it can be dangerous.

Apparently, its possible to become "disconnected" from your body. There is a "cord" that connects you to yourself, if it gets "cut" then it can be almost impossible to find your way back.

I have heard this from several people who actually practice it. Whether or not this is true, I have no idea..

Also, there was a movie about this that was released in the past few months.. I THINK the name was Insidious.

I cant remember for sure, since we've been watching a lot of movies lately. BUT there IS a movie about this that was released recently.

Anyway, thats what happened in the movie. A child was doing astral-projection and got "lost" and couldn't find their way back to their body, and they were stuck in a "coma."

The movie ended with the person's father being hypnotized to the point where he was able to astral-project himself. Then he went and found the child, who was being held captive by evil spirits or something, and he saved the kid. And everyone lived happily ever after.

Na, these are people that I actually know in real life.

Although there ARE a few members on here who practice it. I've seen them talking about it amongst themselves in other threads before. I believe Art is one of them, but I cant be sure.

So dont worry, I'm sure they'll come along & chime in eventually.

OH - I just checked and yes, the movie I am talking about in my previous post IS called "Insidious"

I know what lucid dreaming is, the basic definition, but what do you mean by astral travel?

    Just interested to know.

Astral projection (or astral travel) is an interpretation of out-of-body experience (OBE) that assumes the existence of an "astral body" separate from the physical body and capable of traveling outside it.[1] Astral projection or travel denotes the astral body leaving the physical body to travel in the astral plane.

What this has to do with marketing I'm not sure. But the Moody Blues had the right of it when they opined that, 'thinking is the best way to travel."

There are always bad guys lurking in any medium. Maybe some crystals will help. And a fly swatter.

I was going to give a disclaimer that I know how to use wikipedia but was interested in the laymen's explanation and any personal experiences. Because frankly it sounds like nonsense to me and I'm skeptical. Was more interested in any definitions based on personal experience or understanding.

sorry should have been more clear.

I've never had astral travel before. I've been self-trance past life regression myself and it's pretty scary as hell...so as for astral travel, I'm gonna past. But I've tried lucid dreaming....there are free e-books about lucid dreaming (with MRR) and I have applied them - they just work.

I've actually read a blog post by someone who have tried astral travel with some religious mysticism practice and meditation....he said you don't lose awareness while flying and can wake up anytime you want. Indonesian ancient mysticism called it "meraga sukma" (flying living soul) for astral travel.

    @red, ahh I see.

Well basically, you can leave your body and travel to anywhere in the world. However you are still connected to your body via some sort of "cord" (this is just what I've been told by people who actually practice the stuff)

If you become disconnected from that cord, for example it gets cut, it is possible to become lost. You could be unable to find your way back to your body.

So while your body might be alive, there is nothing "inside" to control it.

Again, this is just my take on it based on what I've been told by a few people that I actually know in real life who practice this sort of thing.

Whether or not its true, I have no idea.

    However anything is possible.

I'm not saying it can or cant happen.. I would just be VERY cautious if I were gonna try it out for myself.

To be honest, I probably wouldnt even try it out for myself. If I want to travel to somewhere, I'll just hop on the next flight.
