A crazy cure for proscratination, writer's block, or laziness

Imagine if one day, a nasty guy pointing his gun to your head : "make money online in 2 days or less, or I'll shoot you dead when I get back!"

Then how's your reaction? your brain will suddenly thinks fast and really stimulated how to find a way! Sometimes, people can really function very well under a deadline pressure!

I know it sounds stupid, but that's how I personally push myself to accomplish things when I was lazy, have writer's block, or just wanting to put things off until oblivion. Even I don't exactly make money in 2 days, I accomplished my tasks that leads to that purpose. :p

(P.S. in this case the guy is not a robber, just a bad-ass guardian angel )

Yes our mind during emergency situation works faster than normal. But it is impossible to sustain this state of mind forever. It is better to cultivate a genuine love for your job and see the miracles happening before your own eyes.

I always try to push myself like that every single day. Usually, I create a list of "to do's" each morning and make it a little challenging by putting down just a little more than I am confident in doing. Then, I push myself to compelte every task.

Going this route, if I don't get everything wrapped up in one day, I know that I've still accomplished the main stuff I wanted to accomplish. Everything else after that is a bonus. That kind of mindset definitely helps me to stay focused and accomplish what I need.

Remember to take breaks though throughout the day (or night). Sometimes a little time away from your PC can help refresh your mind and reinstate that focus you need to get things done.

The best way that I have found to get a lot done in a day is The Pomodoro Technique. It has allowed me to get 8 hours of work done in 5 hours.

It's completely free and I have no financial interest in it, so you should check it out at The Pomodoro Technique®

It all boils down to one's motivation. Success is guaranteed if you constantly struggle to keep up with your goals. When your motivation is comparable to the need for an air to breath, that would be a single-most powerful force that will guarantee your success!

A mindset that your life/livelihood depends upon your getting things done really works. I have noticed this during times when I was down to my last couple of dollars and HAD to do something about it. Funny how that motivates. It's easy to be busy, but busy doing what?

PS: the 4-hour workweek (book) discusses this: being effective without being busy. Awesome read and very empowering.

Reminds me of Fight Club. Tyler dealing with the convenience store guy. It IS interesting how imagining yourself in that situation does tend to kick the old thinking unit into high gear...

I prefer to not come at it from a threatening do-or-die angle. I would rather remember the reward that comes even if it's the reward of simply knowing I got it done and out of the way. But that's just me - you do what works for you!
